Billy was the SCAPE GOAT!! I understand the point the young lady was making.... but.... it's hard to be ON 100% of the time. Any two people sitting in a room with no ond around could make mention of a passerby for "whatever reason" and many times we can be the voice of conscienceness... and other times you can choose to "let it go" even if you don't agree with the other person. Trust me, if you're "ON" 100% of the time, there is enough one-on-one tackiness to exhaust each of us... Inappropriateness sometimes happens in spite of our best efforts.

Billy Bush wasn't a journalist; he was an employee of NBC and had to appease the network's biggest star (for a moment, anyway). Entertainment reporters aren't journalists; they have to promote certain projects and can't be too critical of others or they lose their jobs. Billy was put in a situation where he either smiled and nodded at Trump, or lose his job (potentially). If your boss said something stupid, would you correct him to his face (or her face)?

No dispute with what you said here, but it's the same with most of them. Pay attention to it, you will see it from both sides... Ironic thing is that there are some good politicians on both sides who play with integrity, but they never seem to make it to as high of a position of power and influence. Shame on us!!! Voters are more worried about their emotional social/political self identity then they are about truth and integrity. And I would say this is about equal on both sides. Do a self check sometime... I constantly have to jeep myself in check. The human mind likes to default into viewing everything through a lense that backs up what we already believe.

@@SDriver1111 "The human mind likes to default into viewing everything through a lense that backs up what we already believe." It's called "cognitive dissonance", and it's possibly one of our worst attributes as a species. You literally have to train yourself mentally to not allow your pride and beliefs to get in the way of what is plainly true. Unfortunately, this is a massive problem with Donald Trump's people. When presented with blatant facts, even audio or visual evidence of said facts, they will simply state 'fake news" whether they believe it or not.

@@HowDyaYouLikeMeNow I agree that some Donald Trump people do what you just said, but I see "the other side" do it too, just in a different fashion. I really don't think it is mostly one side over another. Wondering if we notice when certain people do it more, depending on our bias? My guess is yes... that's probably a part of cogitative dissonance. You gave a great example of it and I am guessing you did that intentionally to prove your point. Yes, not a good attribute to human beings in most modern instances (but also is there to serve it's purpose for basic survival), but something for us all to be aware of to keep it in check..

I watched this entire episode. I did not like how the two people (close left and center) pretty much jumped on Billy and tried to shame him. Who the hell are they? The guy got shafted in this situation. He was a reporter nodding and smiling. He even said it was 13 years ago. I don't think those people are entitled to an explanation or proof that he's a "good non-sexist" man. Life is journey. Throughout, we all make poor choices and have the chance to learn and redeem ourselves. The fart-sniffing, holier than thou attitude from extreme leftists is sickening. I'm a left-leaning independent, and the past couple of years has really been disturbing. You have Trump on the one side and far-left douchebags on the other. The "In-Betweeners" need to rise up and keep this country sane. Phew. I'm done.

Social courage comes with a price tag, and that price tag is you can often miss out on promotions, and or have to deal with hearing even worse, as guys, and indeed women will then double down to try wind you up. I've been there done that, and seen others stand up too, and it's got a price. I don't know what the answer is. But now I pick my fights, and I will stand up for other groups, but I still pick my fights, humor is a good way to deal with ass hats, you can make your opinions known, but still not destroy yourself in the process.

Not saying this is all women but it’s jus so funny and hypocritical to me how I see some of the same whores doing this shit then bitching about getting treated a certain way. I treat people based on their character and if u treat urself with respect I’ll treat u w respect lol. He was just an up-and-coming entertainment reporter interviewing one of the biggest TV show hosts on at that time. 20 million viewers per show? Shit, that's what The Walking Dead got in its prime. That's a massive deal. They tell him to just play to the guy's ego, that's exactly what he was gonna do to keep his job. Do you see Mario Lopez calling people out on entertainment news? Hell no, and he's an established host with decades in the job. Trump would have crushed Billy's career in an instant. Just calling him on the ratings was a dangerous move.

That is basically what the women is saying, that people should have said something. That Bush should get the courage to speak out. That is what needs to change. By calling it courage, she is also saying that it is not easy, that it will be very hard. My problem with that is that I don't want it to change, because I want to have a conversation about what I like and don't like and if I think a woman is beautiful I want to say it and not lose my job over it. People are not machines and often we see our co-workers more then we do our own family. I sometimes want to have a talk with people about the people that we are around, also if that conversation is: I really would love to fuck that girl.

They got a complete pass by the liberal media and feminists. Same with all the women who didnt speak up after real sexual assaults. They were said to be powerless. Men face the same issues with power. It takes a lot of guts to stand up to a boss or a big star over a crass sexual joke. They face the same fear of losing their jobs or careers, but women get a pass, and the men get blamed and destroyed.

It was about coming out knowing what he knew and then he pressured the poor girl to hug him Etc. If Billy truly has looked at himself he has got to stop coming out and backing away from and making excuses for his bad behavior he needs to come out & name his bad behavior. The idea that he was young then and knows more now doesn't hold much water if he can't see his part in that creepy exchange.

Sad fact is, calling people out for saying shitty things doesn't help anything. You simply become alienated as "the buzzkill" and it carries on without you. After you move from group to group and realize that everyone is more or less equally shitty, you begrudgingly accept it. If you still have self-respect and dignity, you won't participate, but you're absolutely vain and delusional if you think that your words will have so much weight that it will put a stop to it.

Oh come on Mrs. Haq, I don't defend Trump, because he actually goes out and *does* harass women, but seriously: If there was a tape of a week's private conversations between you and a friend of yours where you discuss your colleagues, you know as well as everyone that there *will* be something on there that you would rather not have them hear. That has nothing to do with respect or disrespect towards men or women in the workplace, that is just how people are. People gossip, people tell bullshit stories about each other, and most of the time the things they say in private aren't entirely fair. Billy Bush did absolutely nothing wrong.

The social courage bit is actually really interesting in my opinion. But I think it's difficult at a minimum to implement. In certain cases, like the one with Billy Bush and Trump, there was a clear power dynamic where Billy Bush was obligated to please Trump. In this instance, saying he should have the courage to speak out is similar to saying that a workplace sexual assault victim should have had the courage to say no. However, in other social situations, it seems like this should be something people are discussing and calling each other out on. Not every time that any comment is made, but at a minimum, when the person feels that a line has been crossed.

Luter Leko - Well that's why it's courageous, because there's a price to pay for it. Of course, at the same time, all those values and all the pats on your back for that courage will be of little consolation once you get sacked. And there they are, the people who egged you on to act out "on your principles" and have "social courage" are all nice and dandy while you're on your way to bumhood... you kind of feel like a schmuck for falling for it. And they'd be like, "Hey, I wasn't the one telling my boss to stfu lol" and they'd be rolling their eyes, and you'd be rolling in mud feeling like a sucker. You follow me? You put your principles first when you're financially independent and don't need that many things from other people; in other words, when you can afford it. The more independent/self-reliant you are, the less you need people, the more you'll have "the courage" to do/say whatever you want.

Yes, but social courage is about saying the things you think are right when you WON'T get applause for them, and they might actually get you in trouble. In a way, this is the opposite of what this panel was generally doing. For me, the social courage is in talking about things as I just did in a comment a moment ago on this video (you can search for it if you're curious), which I think is totally correct, and if not simply my own opinion contribution to the debate. Yea because women never talk about guys or the hot guy in office or whatever. Women never say this guy is attractive, or that guy is a creep. As for the Billy Bush situation, when a woman is present and doesnt say anything its because "she felt powerless" or "froze" of whatever, but when a guy is present, hes an asshole for not speaking up at the time and should be fired from his job and be destroyed professionally. Was Nayyera Haq talking about "social courage" when all the women remained silent to keep their jobs? Nope. Social courage only applies to men apparently. Women can keep quiet to keep their jobs, but men must speak up and lose their jobs.. The women even remained silent when they witnessed criminal sexual assault. Billy Bush just heard an old silly guy joking around about women. Complete double standard.

Put yourself in Billy Bush's situation. You have a good job, being well paid, you have 3 kids, and your boss or a big star makes a crass sexual comment. Are you going to risk your job speaking out over a joke? I think most people wouldnt honestly. Theres a difference between locker room talk and actual sexual assault. But my problem isnt how we are expected to respond in this situation, my problem is men are held to a completely different standard to women. When women didnt speak up for fear of losing their job or career, everyone (the liberal media and the feminists) defended them. When a guy doesnt speak up for the same reason, he is an asshole who needs to be destroyed.

The female guest said it all - have the social courage to at the very least not join in, not egg on the sexist, not be complicit with the racist. And best of all to state you don't agree with the attitude. You, Billy Bush, tried to throw that unsuspecting woman under the bus; instead, you threw yourself under the bus. Own it, Billy.

The difference is that man are generally physically superior to women (or are more often in positions of power) so that verbal sexual objectification can often become physical and direct, with the woman viewed as an object not having much possibility to defend herself. However, sexual objectification will always exist - regardless of gender - when one is not interested in someone's personality, but is nevertheless physically attracted to him/her. Sexual objectification of individuals can only be somewhat alleviated, but a complete overhaul in our approach to interpersonal relationships and individuals - a precondition for which is higher emotional intelligence which the educational system can help develop - would be needed for that.

It's ridiculous for this woman or anyone to say Billy Bush should have said something to Trump ie: "that's wrong to objectify women like that" etc etc. First of all, if they weren't being recorded, no one would have ever heard it. Secondly, are you trying to say women don't talk like that? We have to police what people say in private? And thirdly, you know how many times I've listened to a guy brag about how great he is with women? Anyone in Bush's position would have just nodded and said "oh ya, uh huh". Trump at the time was just some TV blow hard. He didn't know he was going to be the president. This woman is being ridiculous.

Seems like you missed the part where she said what actually bothered her the most about the incident. It was that Bush then pressured his female coworker into a hug for Trump and himself after hearing that trashy comment about sexually assaulting women. He was endangering his coworker. Period. Here's a link to the transcripts of it should you need a refresher: www.latimes.com/politics/la-na-pol-trump-bush-transcript-20161007-snap-htmlstory.html

Tessa Wardzinski - Seems you have a pretty loose definition of what "endangering" means. He was kissing trumps add. Sure maybe shouldn't have bu that time the camera was in their faces it wasn't like he was going to rape her right there. And she of course could have said no to the hug. It's not like she had to do it because Billy Bush said to. And again to my point, all guys have heard blowhards like brag about how great they are with women. We take it with a grain of salt and say uh huh, ya... The idea that Billy heard trump bragging about all the tail he gets so now he has to protect all women from this monster is absurd.

Billy put the actress in an even worse position than he was in earlier (which you are clamoring to have people forgive), and there was absolutely no reason to do that. I would say that it’s amazing that you can’t see that, but then what else would one expect from someone who throws the word, “whore” around. You understand the man’s position of having to smile and nod, but have zero interest in understanding the woman’s position of not only having to smile and nod, but to add physical affection to the mix.

There's a whole lot of critical thinking that's missing from her comment. He just got done saying why exactly it is that he did not confront Trump on the comment and I completely understand wanting to keep your job. There's certainly a line you need to draw, socially, but needing to correct someone like Trump who's been this way his whole life is not where you should draw the line. The woman is pretending that each individual moment is moving the goal post one way or the other and it does not work that way. It looks more like she wanted social brownie points then having empathy for Billy Bush and his family's livelihood.

I’ve seen men and even male friends in that situation who didn’t have the courage to say what I could see was on their minds. I am one who has always called or confronted this behaviour and it’s a lonely exercise. Just like whistleblowers. On the surface you may be applauded but it will probably lead to some form of social death in that group or being not being hired. Men need to understand that silence or worst, nervous laugh, is an expression of approval and complicity with this behaviour. There really isn’t a sideline to shelter trying to retreat from those in important moral and ethical situations.

Hell, they have better college educations than men right now. Here are a few stats for you against men's favor that matter and affect me. Most workplace deaths are men. Men are 3.5x more often than women to commit suicide. Men have a lower life expectancy. Men don't have reproductive rights. I'm not against women's rights, but make it equal when you use the word "respect". As I stated, men don't have it so great.

If you're going to present an argument, can't you at least quote someone accurately? are you so inept you must resort to base name calling? i dont care that i misquoted her. thats not the point. the point is that yes women are pressured to appeasing old ideals. and so what? are there no pressures men must follow? yes women being harassed in the workplace is unacceptable and must be brought to an end. so struggle against it and bring an end to it. it will take time and it will take patience but it will be done with. and while in gilded halls of comfy easy jobs such a war is waged the rest of us (women included as i have known a few who did the ugly hard inglorious jobs) will go about our lives not truly caring.
