Billy Fury, English singer, musician, songwriter, and actor. An early star of rock and roll, he equalled the Beatles' record of 24 hits in the 1960s and spent 332 weeks on the UK chart.[4] His hit singles include "Wondrous Place", "Halfway to Paradise" and "Jealousy". Fury also maintained a film career, notably playing rock performers in Play It Cool in 1962 and That'll Be the Day in 1973.
AllMusic journalist Bruce Eder stated that Fury's "mix of rough-hewn good looks and unassuming masculinity, coupled with an underlying vulnerability, all presented with a good voice and some serious musical talent, helped turn [him] into a major rock and roll star in short order".[5] Others have suggested that his rapid rise to prominence was due to his "Elvis-influenced hip swivelling and, at times, highly suggestive stage act"

Great video. There was a period in Billy's life when his career nosedived and he was reduced to gigs in pubs. This was in the early seventies. I went to see him in a pub on a Saturday night in north Birmingham it was £1 to get in. It was a good show. His career later arose again and pub gigs we again a thing of the past.

Billy Fury was way before my time Alan, well I mean I was born in 67,but he was in or from a different era,and I knew nothing about him until I just watched your excellent tribute to him and as you said his Grave is Amazingly well looked after! I then watched Billy on the 1976 Russell Harty show although for some reason Harty annoys me,but it shows what a thoroughly nice guy Billy Fury was! R.i.p. .

Billy also had a House here in Wales. A friend of mine bought it back in the 90s. In the Attic was a load of books on Wild Birds . Also it had Stables. One thing I remember well about the house was the kitchen was pink. It was said a close lady friend of his wanted it that colour. On the Drive way up to the house was a stream with a Tree Stump . It was told to me Billy use to sit there to write songs. Also in the Down stairs bathroom were a few well know signatures on the Wall. My friend Karen no longer lives there now. She sold up and Moved to Hay-On -Wye. Very famous for second hand Books.

Another lovely video Alan. A very attractive and well tended burial plot. I like the colour of the stone and the little blue/ purple chippings, and the proximity of the grave to the path. Although I’m familiar with Billy Fury and some of his hits, I wasn’t really a fan, or someone who would buy his records. That said, I appreciate his talent and contribution to the music industry. Coincidentally, I sometimes meet up with some of my wife’s friends in Nottingham. The husband of one of the ladies she knows is a musician and promoter in a Billy Fury tribute show, “Halfway to Paradise” featuring some of the band’s original members from The Tornados, with Colin Gold playing Billy Fury. ✌️& ❤️

Thank you for such a lovely video Allan. For me I must admit to watching this with a tinge of very personal sadness....Billy Fury was a favourite of my dad and we had an LP which he played so often that even to this day I can recite the lyrics to Billy's songs. My parents divorced when I was 16....he left, remarried and has never made contact since. Each time I hear a Billy Fury song these old memories return. I didn't want to watch but kinda didn't want to let you down by not.... watching it though has been quite a cathartic experience. Thank you xx

Hello, the underpants I am sorry I didn't see this 3 weeks ago. If I ever don't reply it's because it slipped through the net. I can imagine it music and smells bring back our memories, don't they? It's like it switches on the tape recorder in the mind and I can imagine it was quite difficult listening to the songs again, but very sweet of you to say you felt you should cos you enjoy watching my channel. That's super nice of you. I appreciate it enormously. It is difficult to lose a parent. At 16. I lost my father at 16 through an accident and my mother at 19 so I know exactly what you mean at 15. I don't really know my dad that well but by 19 I got to know my mother very well as a person. That's life. It can be said You take care and I'll see you one day soon.
