Man, Billy is just one of those few players who can pick up any guitar, plug it into any amp, and you know it's him playing within the first or second note. Amazing and unique hands

Psssst he uses .007's pass it along. Tone comes from the gingers not from the strings.

You have to find the sweet spot where your guitar and amp work best, adjust your pickups (or even change them if needed). Your fingers really do contribute massively to your sound, and so do your strings. There's many factors to get the sound that's in your head come out of your amp. FX hardly enter into that by the way, that's just embellishing... It might take a day, a week, a year. Keep at it, you'll get there :-)

@@johang.5776 Saw ZZ Top at a sold out show. Something tells me it's still pretty popular. We're not about to "move on" with beat generator machines and untasteful and souless noise. As far as shredding goes, it's cool to have that skill, especially when it continues to entertain a big crowd, but some of us prefer a more rugged blues sound.

Well I'm glad there are both..... I don't shred (wish I could) my heavy leads are more like Jerry Cantrell style.... Bursts of legato and arpeggios but still pretty pentatonic...... Anyway, I digress, im glad there are chicken pickers, shredders, rockers, blues guys, jazz guys, experimentalists etc. This makes guitar diverse and interesting..... If every body played like gibbons then gibbons wouldn't be as cool! I personally rip him off every chance I get though, as well as Angus and page and lol...
