I saw this when I was 12, in 1971. I heralded it to every kid I knew. It was the best movie ever made; certainly the best I’d ever seen. It’s idealism spoke to my naïveté. Lovely thought then, but for now some reason , as a 64 year old who seen how beautiful & unkind life can be, idealism in that, trippy sense of peace, love , pacifism & brotherhood just isn’t sustainable. Division & derision are seemingly goals we now fight to achieve. The battle is unending. Life exists through opposing forces. Just a sad realty, really.

As brilliant as the message was in this film I don’t think it would have worked without the most realistic martial arts fight scene ever put on film. That drove us all to see it over and over again but Toms performance was so incredible and real that you actually believed he was the character. If I had to use one word that sums up the movie for me that word would be Honor.

I remember seeing thr movie on TV in about 1976. I loved the story , a real hero not some fairy-tale. I had Native American friends several men worked for my dad in the woods, so I knew of some of the prejudices that they faced and that hit home with me. Tom and Delores did an awsome job on this story.

I was 14 year's old when this movie came out, I'll never forget I went to see it because of all the kick ass fights and stuff.... But when I saw this movie for the first time it effected me in a way of learning what the white man and our government treat these beautiful wonderful people our native American Indians, it's fucking terrible in the way the Indians are still treated to this very day December 25th 2019. They are still overlooked in so many fascists. They still live on their Indian reservations given casinos by our government for money to help fund their living circumstances which is still horrible to this very day. God bless our native American Indians.
@ComputerLearning0
@ComputerLearning0 5 жыл бұрын
What is it you feel us lowly white people should do for modern-day Native Americans? They're already afforded things the rest of us will NEVER be given, yet we're supposed to do more? What exactly would that be? Despite the fact some people choose to live a certain way, that isn't the white man's fault. I'm white and I've never done so much as a single thing to Native Americans but it's interesting the way it's always suggested just the mere existence of white people in America is somehow a bad thing and it really illustrates where the real racism is in this country. I was born in the early 1950's and in all my years I never saw Native Americans treated the way they were depicted in this film. I'm sure there are exceptions to this but guess what? WHITES have been treated like shit too. Treating people badly isn't exclusive to any one group but when people talk about Native Americans they always make it sound as if whites never experienced ANY negative societal treatment, which is complete and utter BS. In order to get a good idea how badly Native Americans were treated in this country you have to go far enough back such that those responsible aren't even alive anymore, yet whites are STILL blamed for everything. Those of us alive today have never done a damn thing to them, any more than they've done to us, and while I completely agree we should never forget how our country was founded, there comes a point where you have to stop portraying modern-day white people as if they're still the bad guys. So how much free shit do we have to give away to those who never even experienced the kind of poor treatment you're referring to? Another decade... a century... FOREVER? And while we're busy making a group of people who never did anything wrong to pay for benefits to another group who never actually experienced anything bad beyond the usual trials & tribulations the rest of us have experienced in life, I guess all the negative things that affect the first group can just go straight to hell because they're just evil white people, right? How convenient.
@CHaas-bn3xi

@@ComputerLearning0 I'm a fucking 100% WHITE AMERICAN MAN. I'm not talking about RACISM.... I'm talking about the way our government stripped the AMERICAN INDIAN of everything. I was born in 1959 yes I'm 60 years old.

Life is much more complicated than your simplistic view. I love this movie. I deplore how the native tribes were treated. But, the movie showed an isolated case. All cultures are both good and bad because humans are good and bad. Avoid the trap of idolizing one over another. And treat everyone as an individual.

Laughlin grew up on the streets of Milwaukee, and legend has it that he kicked a lot of butt, but never actually picked a fight with anyone.

The kids in this movie did the "raised fist" a year before John Carlos and Tommie Smith did it in the 68 Olympics. Power to the people....ALL PEOPLE

I thought that I was the only one who was in love with that little blonde. I was 11 at the time, went home thinking about her every day. Had to go watch it over and over. I'll do some research about her, and let you know.
