Could you think of ANYONE ELSE who could have been more appropriate delivering this memorial than Billy Preston? This was all meant to happen.

Billy's vocals, even at this late stage in life are powerful and mighty! I did not know he had such a powerful voice! Saw in a 2004 interview (Billy passed in 2006) where he said that he was ON DIALYSIS when he was on tour in Europe! Who does that???!!! What a strong, powerful man he must have been to know he was rapidly declining, and he just kept on playing and recording music to the end. That's the life of a hero right there. I love and so admire Billy.

George was the one with all the talent. Pal and John stifled George. When the beatles finally broke up, George wrote wonderful songs.

The 5 th Beatle, Billy Preston. This concert is amazing, please react to " Isn't it a Pity" Harrison's masterpiece and Clapton and Preston sharing lead vocals. And listen closely at the chorus, Theres a Hey jude , na na na, but with Harrisons lyrics in a twist.

Another layer to explore for you-and some of these may freak you out. A number of the Beatles' kids have also had music careers of their own. Julian Lennon (the "Jude" of "Hey Jude"), John's son from his first wife, Cynthia, as well as John and Yoko's son Sean, have had musical careers. Paul's son (James? Can't remember his first name) also has a musical career. Sean Lennon and (James?)McCartney even wrote a song together just in the last month or so-so we actually have the first new "Lennon-McCartney" song since the breakup of the Beatles. And Ringo's son, Zak Starkey, actually for a while replaced Keith Moon of the Who, who died suddenly and the group needed a new drummer, so Ringo's son became the drummer for the Who. Life goes on. . . .

And we can see from your program "The Genius of Ringo Starr" that he's got the dual drummers going with both Ringo and Greg Bissonnette who was the other drummer from Ringo's All Star Band who was interviewed in that program.

It's refreshing to hear a brother acknowledging the differences between black folks and white folks in a humorous way. You should watch some Larry Bird trash talking videos and hear what Bird, a white boy, said about who should or shouldn't attempt to defend him on the court! BTW, THIS comment comes from a white boy who plays bass and knows how to groove.

I have the DVD of this entire concert organized by Eric Clapton. Ringo is up there drumming with another drummer George often used n recordings when Ringo was not available for everything, and in the Traveling Wilburys...as Jim Keltner., seen here. And both had played together for George in the famous Concert for Bangla Desh [also on film] in 1971 [Charity concert]. Jim Keltner, an American, played in Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band in 1989, they are good friends. George's only child, son Dhani, in the white shirt is playing guitar at age 24/25 in this entire concert, in his dad 's place, occasionally singing back up, a very special thing because he looks just like his dad. I get your joke, lol. There was a joke by writer Dave Barry years ago about how at a concert you can tell which people are Democrats and which are Republicans...The Democrats clap on beat 2 and 4, the Republicans are clapping on beat 1 and 3...🤣 OI wish Clapton would have asked a Motown act to do a song or two. Smokey Robinson would have been there, and probably Stevie Wonder, for sure if they could or were asked. McCartney and Stevie and Smokey are good friends. McCartney had put up the money to restore the original grand piano used on Motown records, for the Motown musicum...he did that for Smokey, without being asked.

Did you get a good look at Dhani Harrison, Mug? Doesn't he look like his dad when he was young? And I'm wondering who is playing George's famous slide guitar lead-is that Eric Clapton or Dhani Harrison? I'd love to know; whoever is doing it is spot on-it sounds just like George on the original recording.
@thomastimlin1724Ай бұрын
It was George who started the Charity Rock Concert thing , in August1971, in the Concert for Bangla Desh held at Madison Square Garden [there were two concerts with the best takes put on film as if it were one concert]. Many of these guys participated in that...Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Jim Keltner, Billy Preston, and others like the band Bad finger, Leon Russel, and the great Bob Dylan, East Indian musician group lead by Ravi Shankar, and scores of other musicians and back up Singers, black, white purple, didn't matter... as long as you could play and "sang." That concert in turn influenced later charity concerts such as Farm Aid, USA for Afrika recording etc etc record and DVD sales from Bangla Desh and THIS concerts have most profit s gong to UNICEF per George's will. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipPcZGynnZ5_qtU
