The fact that The Wall loops is so trippy, it could be saying that Pink falls back into his isolation and addiction or it represents other people building their own walls, it’s a really dark album and that’s why it’s amazing. To top it off, the transition from “Outside the Wall” to “In the Flesh” is genius because; 1. There’s a hidden piece of Roger talking and 2. At the start of “In the Flesh”, whatever the instrument is it becomes super quiet, tricking first time listeners to turn it up and then their eardrums are destroyed by the guitar. It’s amazing.

steven Brunton uh, if it was for money it would of been more expensive than what it was, would of been labelled as limited edition, would of been labeled the last pink Floyd album, probably would of been made a solo album too but with slight alterations. Each and every one of us felt the record in a very personal way. We had each built our walls and we understood all of it on an emotional level. At the same time, it was so liberating. A battle cry. One of my favorite memories is of the night a friend and I got caught driving in a snow storm and had to go really slow. We turned the radio off and sang The Wall from start to finish, improvising the instrumental parts by making weird noises. We knew every guitar solo. The thing is in our DNA. And it has aged well! I'd put Wish You Were Here one space below, but otherwise I agree. If I'm tripping, dogs, pigs and sheep are the way to go. But if I'm just trying to enjoy, DSTOM is my choice. Also, man, one of the most important things things for me is the guitars and the hammond organs, not so much the lyrics. I do like Water's work, I love it, but not as much as Gilmour and Wrights'.

Bogdanmeoff pigs on the wings are not supposed to be climactic in any way. The real climax of the album is the ending to Sheep. “Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream” signifies the uprising of the sheep, followed by that kick ass riff after. Pigs on the wing just act as very innocent pieces to differentiate from the bleakness of the rest of the album

I definitely agree with The Wall being #1 in terms of the concept and execution of the whole album altogether, however I am torn between DSOTM and Wish You Were Here in terms of how strong the individual songs are. It's incredible how The Wall comes together as a full album but there's definitely a lot of tracks on there that I wouldn't really listen to on their own; whereas on DSOTM especially, as well as Wish You Were Here, every single song is just a masterpiece in and of itself. I agree that the concepts, while great, can't compare to The Wall, but I guess as someone who listens to music on shuffle a lot I personally rank The Wall below those two, and maybe below Animals. But again, it's a totally different metric, so I think when considering each album as a full unit and weighting the conceptual part heavily, The Wall does come out on top. For me, not as enjoyable to listen to, but undoubtedly an incredible work of art.
@Imforeverenglish4 жыл бұрын
Great answer, and I would add, the wall was a story and therefore lent itself to the show (and the film to a lesser extent) which further amplified its cohesive nature. That said, there were still many great stand-alone tracks apart from the obvious 'Another Brick' and Sublime 'Comfortably Numb' ...Mother, Goodbye Blue Sky, Hey You, Nobody Home and the epic foot stomper Run Like Hell ...all brilliant and well crafted in their own right.

I feel thats what waters brought to the table in pink floyd. If you take a look optimal pink floyd was waters story telling and lyrics accompanied by the rest of the bands music and creativity. Too much waters and you get poems over GCD (The Final Cut), Too much the rest of the crew and you get some albums with solid songs (MLOR and Division Bell) but that dont make sense lyrically (and in my opinion dont feel cohesive at all). I really would have liked concepts like amused to death and pros and cons been executed by the whole band instead of just Waters. Do you guys imagine amused to death with some sick gilmour solos and soft vocals, wright spatial sound and mason crazy rifts?

The Division bell was to be their last album. Then however, Rick parted in 2014 and The endless river was released as a farewell to him as it was the last material he recorded with them. By the way the name Endless river refers to Ricks passion of sailing. Also if you leave out More, you should also leave out Obscured by clouds, as it is a soundtrack as well. One day I decided to make my personal ranking of PinkFloyd songs, so I first listened to Confortably Numb which I immediately put in first place, then I listened to Wish you were here and I put it instead of ConfortablyNumb at first place, then I listened to ShineOnYouCrazyDiamond so I decided to put HIM in first place... It lasted for hours and in the end I listened to ConfortablyNumb again... and I I put it back in the first place. This is an impossible task for me.

I'm a big fan of the Endless River honestly. I'm a sucker for instrumentals, but it is a sequel to the Division Bell, and takes a lot from it. I prefer Talkin Hawkin over Why Won't You Talk To Me though. The Gilmour stuff has a different feel to it than the Waters stuff, which doesn't work for a lot of people. Personally though, I think the Barrett era was the strongest overall. It's just pure psychedelia, and I love it. I still think Dark Side is best though. Probably.

@LegoGuy87 In all honesty, most of my negative feelings about Radiohead come from Kid A. I'll probably piss off a lot of people when I say this, but I can not stand that album and everything about it sonically. To me, Kid A is 50 minutes of tedious, banal, and pretentious electronica that never actually goes anywhere. Measured as a rock album, it is absolute crap. If you like that kind of stuff, all the power to you, but it just isn't for me. If you weren't too infuriated by that rant, could you please recommend me the album of theirs that has the fewest things in common with Kid A?

@@dom6366 You realize that music is stolen constantly by other artists, right? The Beatles famously took Twist and Shout and lyrics from a Chuck Berry song. Metallica stole all of the riffs Dave Mustaine wrote for them. Echoes was ripped off by what's his nuts, the dude that wrote Phantom of the Opera. If you're gonna hate on Zeppelin for that, you gotta hate on these bands for the same exact thing, otherwise quit your bitching.

In the album The Dark Side Of The Moon, the album starts with a melow heart bit and in the end of the album, ends with that heart bit fading away, reminding the listener how he was feeling before he started listening to the album and how he is feeling now. Absolutely the best Pink Floyd album ever created, one of my favourite albums out there.
