I may be old and I may be strange but I can still dance and I can still holler Im not at your shows 'cause I ain't got a dollar So wherever you are what you might want to know is I thank.the Lord for this free you tube show. Yes I may be old in the hospital today your music is medicine that will get me away from these doctors and nurses and all I can say is I may be old but not in the way that makes you believe I'm here to stay. So Let me go home where I can be strange and be back with my livestock out on the range. I'm learning your songs and I will sing them out loud to stars and the mountains and my good friends the clouds.

I just found out about him a few months ago. Some people frown that he is not pure Bluegrass. He introduced this genre to younger people that would never be interested in Bluegrass. A regular Bluegrass band would not draw these big crowds. Music is supposed to be fun to play and listen too. Critics need to get over it.

James Silverstone everyone from added something to it ! Original 3 bands are Bill Monroe & Bluegrass Boys, Flatt & Scruggs and the Stanley Brothers. After that it was all a spin off of the original ! Moral of story lol Billy is keepin it alive and I’m grateful!!! sorry I got long winded !

@marlene riggs I learned banjo years ago. Its been gathering dust in the corner because i have learning guitar. I like bluegrass but when i go to a show or listen to music its usually rock. Billy renewed my interest in Bluegrass and its cool to see him covering the dead. A lot of Bluegrass songs are in the key of G and easy for a beginner guitarist to learn to chord along and sing with.

Billy Strings is definitely a musical missionary. I'm a third generation gigging musician, have allowed music (all music) to consume my life. I've never seen anyone resurrect a genre like this. Sure there are originators of styles, Elvis, Sabbath, Zeppelin, etc., And while they deserve the respect and appreciation they deserve, it seems what Billy is doing to bluegrass is more difficult. People have expectations, judgmental, snobby, ignorant opinions. Billy and his crew are keeping a huge part of American culture alive and have every ounce of my respect and appreciation. Thanks guys, you're truly setting a much needed bar on the level of talent all music can/should strive for.

Not all that different from skiffle... popularized here in the USA most notably by Lonnie Donnigan. Seem to recall that before the Beatles were the Beatles s couple of them were in a skiffle group. I'Ll say this though. Billy Strings is much more accomplished musically than any skiffle group I remember. Billy's sense of timing is amazing. His notes and runs clear and crisp and precise. And a smile that says "I'm doing the one thing that gives my life meaning and there is no place that I would rather be than on this stage, at this time, with these musicians. playing the music I love for all of you."

Just saw this group in Winston Salem, NC. I've been to dozens of shows of nearly every genre imaginable. I've never seen anything like his show ever. Amazing, no one sat, everyone was mesmerized by the entire thing. I'm 60 years old and grew up in the Appalachian mountains with bluegrass...but nothing like this young man and the 4 insanely talented musicians he has with him. BTW, my son is 23 and a HUGE fan of bluegrass now because of Billy. Thank you for that.

I have been a rocker all my life , played in several bands. But I am eclectic. I love Opera, country, and definitely appreciate the sincerity and incredible roots of bluegrass. But here's a kid who looks like he should be the front man for a pop rock or metal band, and he is doing with , and for bluegrass, things I have never heard before. He is making blue grass accessible and cool for the younger generations. God love Doc Watson , and the trailblazers who laid the groundwork of genius in the past...but Billy here is the NEXT legend methinks !!!

Billy Strings has everything - guitar pickin’ superior to almost everyone who has ever touched the instrument, this amazing voice that soothes and feels as much a part of nature as the trees in the forest or the sky and clouds above, and perhaps the hardest for most musicians to accomplish - an incredible songwriting ability that pulls you in and twists your heart in two while at the same time making you happy to be alive... every word is perfect. This is the kind of music that makes you want to run faster, work harder, and live and love forever.

Well, I have listed to this about 57 more times.. and my comment wasn’t meant to take anything from the rest of the band. I mean.. say their names. Jerrod Walker, Billy Failing, Royal Massat. Each one of these musicians is at the pinnacle for their respective instruments. Perfection.. each and every one!

Earlier in the comments someone called this NEWGRASS. No, this is beyond that. Newgrass came about in the 80's (Thank You Sam Bush). When I first saw Billy on 'Bluegrass Underground' my first thought was this is not Newgrass any longer - This is psychedelic-grass! Thank you Billy for expanding bluegrass but keeping a solid footing in tradition.

Many complain how today's talented young musicians can't make it. Billy Strings proves this wrong. Yes, the talent bar is extremely high: instrumental virtuosity, vocal virtuosity, songwriting talent, and the hardworking ability to collaborate and promote. And here he is- filling Red Rocks Amphitheater with 10,000 people at age 26. It can still be done if you have the right gifts.
