Bump stop tuning can be an effective way to tune your suspension's response and comfort. If you go with really low springs, you'll also want to change/modify your bump stops for enough damper travel. This video will show you how to disassemble your Bilstein B6/B8 front struts for the BMW F2x/F3x chassis cars and change bump stops.
I changed my B6's bump stop to a softer compound and shortened it to give myself enough damper travel before initial engagement with the lower springs I'm using.

Are these struts nitrogen filled? If yes, how are they refilled? I have a pair of H&R coilovers that are supposedly bilstein made but they need a rebuild. I have done Ohlins motorcross shocks before but these coilovers dont seem to have any Schrader valves to fill with, so how do these struts/shocks get refilled? Thank you for your time

Yes, these are Nitrogen filled for the gas chamber. You're right that H&R dampers are made by Bilstein. There are some special Bilstein fill tools since they don't have normal Schrader valves. You might be able to buy them direct from Bilstein (have to call).

Hi, it is a nice video, may I ask do you need to heat up the 17mm nut then could loose it up or just do it straight away when at the first time? Coz Fatcat did a similar tutorial video, and he has heated it up first then could get the nut to loose. I'm wondering if it will come to loose without heating em?

I haven't had to heat up the nuts when disassembling. It's possible they used to use "red" Loctite which required it.

I’m upgrading to Bilstein B8’s and was going to order the front and rear F80 bump stops for my F30. But after seeing this do I not need to use bump stops on the front B8’s?

Correct, you don't need to buy F8x front bump stops since the B8 struts have an internal one.

I'd ask Bilstein. They were kind of illegible. The B14/B8 bump stops are E4-AP2-Z118A00 though. The B6 bump stops ended in A01 or AD1.

@@SuperPche You might have to see if the Bilstein distributor can directly order it from Bilstein for you. These don't seem to be a regular stock item.

Yes the bump stop is inside the strut body, but outside of the damper body like normal.

The difference is you have more free damper travel so bumps don't upset the car as much. The car is much more composed over bumpy/poorly graded roads.
