I would love one but unfortunately the price point is too high. Great idea though and I love the fact you could swap between bikes also. being someone that has 2 MTB's that would be fantastic. It also looks 1000% better than some of the E-bike conversion kits out there. But as I said I could buy an e-bike for not much more.

Seems like this would wear out and or cause undo stress on the rotors. Also, I went to their website and this system sells for $2,000. Why would anyone pay that kind of money when you can get a whole and good bike for that amount of money with a more powerful motor? Am I missing something?
@JT-nc5ib3 жыл бұрын
The rotor is designed with this stress in mind, but I agree that really only time will tell. BiMotal has people on their team that are no strangers to R&D, so I know it has been tested. Also while I agree the system isn’t cheap, getting a good electric ebike is not going to happen for anywhere around $2k. I think the appeal is also more towards the people who ride on trails where ebikes are no allowed. So you would be able to ride the same bike, and switch it between eMTB and non Electric quickly. Another big selling point is the total weight. Which is more important in the MTB space then commuting.
@greadore3 жыл бұрын
@@JT-nc5ib Thank for the comment. Hopefully the rotor will hold up, but as you say, only time will tell. I disagree on not being able to get a good Ebike for anywhere around $2k, there are many very good Ebikes for this price, especially if you factor in the additional power I get. I hear you about people riding MTBs on trails, that is an area I am not into or very familiar with. Time will tell and I wish them all the luck in this endeavor.
@JT-nc5ib3 жыл бұрын
@@greadore oh you are correct. I meant eMTBs, there are some very nice ebikes you can get for around $2k. Rad Power and Vvolt immediately come to mind. And I agree, you get some much more powerful bikes for that price also. This product is definitely geared (pun intended) for MTBs currently, but I am willing to get they have some big plans for how to evolve this system in the future.

@2309-g4y3 жыл бұрын
@greadore I spoke to the Bimotal folks at Sea Otter. The Elevate is aimed to compete with eMTBs at the top end of the market, up there in the $14k range. The idea is you can take your existing 26lb carbon FS MTB, which you love riding, and turn it into a top spec. eMTB for $2k, rather than putting down $14k or whatever on a whole new eMTB, and then maybe having too many bikes to fit in your apartment. Looked at that way it makes a lot more sense, to me at least. 750W/100Nm, is plenty enough for me. In my case, I have a nice full-rigid adventure bike, custom stainless frame, it cost almost $7k a few years back, weighs about 20lb. For $2k I can turn that into a kickass 26lb adventure ebike. For me it's a good deal cuz I can't afford $9-10k for a new bike these days, and I like that I can remove the Bimotal system in less than a minute for flatland riding on a 20lb bike.

This is actually useful. I don’t think the intension with this is to go downhill with it on but actually to help you ascend nicely and then take it off and literally descend on the normal bike and put this in your backpack. Its purpose seems to be for generic riding on roads or climbing technical terrain
@rickywoods31017 ай бұрын
Are you sure it would do well on technical climbing being that it only has 50nm of torque without any mechanical advantage that a mid drive would have ?
@MTBTrekRoutes7 ай бұрын
Mid drive is 100% much better. 50nm of throttle only power along with pedalling might be enough but yeah mid drive is superior. Think it’s just made to give you a little boost that’s all. Too expensive though. It’s like £2k. You can get a trek marlin mid drive with 50nm mid drive bikes these days for not much more than this motor

The attached motor engages with a gear behind the brake rotor, not with the brake rotor itself. You can see the teeth of the gear behind the rotor, which engage with the teeth of the gear seen on the underside of the motor unit.
@chow-chihuang49033 жыл бұрын
The original rotor looks to be replaced with a gear+rotor assembly. The rotor on that is bolted near the periphery of the large gear. It does double the number of bolts you need to check aren’t shaking loose, but the gear itself looks robust. I do wonder how the bolt holes in the hub will do, as braking forces are mostly borne by the front, and are intermittent. Then again, I usually don’t see any difference between those on front versus rear hubs.
@EbikeEscape3 жыл бұрын
The other commenters covered it. A bit hard to see in the footage but there are extra gears behind the rotor.

Looks like the original rotor is replaced with a gear+rotor assembly. The gearmotor’s output gear meshes with the gear now bolted to your hub. I can see why professional installation is included as aligning the caliper and gearmotor properly could be fussy.
