Bing Crosby was an incredible person. His life story is incredible, and should be admired by all people, especially Americans. I think he is a brilliant example of the ideal American. He overcame an alcoholic addiction in his early life. In the 1930s, he became the friend of Louis Armstrong, and stood up to the racism that some inflicted on Armstrong. In the 40s, he was having an affair and was planning to divorce his wife Dixie, who was dying. Crosby then went to his pastor and mother, who both strongly rebuked him, and then he went to his wife and reconciled. He stayed with her until she died in the early 50s. Truly incredible. Though he struggled, he was honest, faithful and stood up for what was right, even when others didn't. I think all Americans should strive to be like this legend, this American legend. I think his motto really was, "In God is our trust."

KUDOS--KUDOS--KUDOS to you, ATDML! I've collected virtually everything Bing ever did since 1984, and this one escaped me!!! I had no idea he'd ever recorded "The Star-Spangled Banner." Just a tremendous find and post! I MUST GIVE YOU YOUR DUE---a terrific version-despite a couple people who think this wasn't a great version. If they only knew how hard I'd searched for this for years, and knew Bing's best vocal years (best high and low range, inflections, and quality of tone, was roughly from 1937-1942. ANYTHING he sung was fabulous during this era. I have always felt that the early-mid-30's, really stretched his vocal chords, but amplification was much better by the later 30's, and the first Bing song that he excelled in was, "Mexicali Rose," showcasing Bing's more "mature" sound, and also his incredible range and inflections. While still on this theme, could you dip into your archives you draw your posts from, and see if you can find Bing singing: "Ballad of Davy Crockett," "The Glory of Love," "Believe me if all You Endearing Young Charms," "Sweet Genevieve," "On the Banks of the Wabash," "The Missouri Waltz" (Unfortunately, the original great version has been scrubbed from the internet, because it is "politically incorrect,)..........if you could find and post that one, it would be greatly appreciated!

Hello! Most of those songs that you mentioned, Bing never recorded or he sang snippets of it on his radio/TV show, but I'll do my best to see what I can come up with.

A nice try, but he should had the choir sing the high notes ("and the rocket's red glare" etc.) while he sang them an octave lower. When it came to the high notes, he wasn't in his best voice.

Go back in time, and vocal coach Bing Crosby. 😅

@@ThePattycake1313 as soon as a time machine is available, i will. unfortunately, i'll be able to do nothing to cure your lack of aesthetics or your tone-deafness; some things there is no cure for (seeing as you enjoyed crosby wallowing through our horrible jingoistic national anthem).

IT DOES NOT GRAB ME. He was a great singer, but this is not his best effort. The choir sounded better. Perhaps this is an anthem that is better sung by choruses and not solo.
