I wonder if this is one of those Town names that someone looked on a map, desperate for an interesting name to write in with song, and put it in there. Apalachicola is way the heck out in the middle of nowhere, and the northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico. It's reasonably difficult to reach now, let alone back in those days. I grew up about 40 miles away from there, and I don't think I only ever went there twice in my life.
