The Chronicles of Narnia is a series of books known for their talking fauna, religious overtones, and sickly sweets offered up by the White Witch, Jadis. Turkish Delight may be a delight for some accustomed palates, but can be fancifully altered with a number of different flavor concentrates. Whip up a batch to coerce and manipulate the black sheep of your choosing today.

Turkish delight actually has an interesting story to tell. The reason why it became an extravaganza in britain was because turkish delight could not be made by foreigners. No one knew the recipe and the techniques really well and those handmade delights did not taste as good as the turkish ones so you had to import turkish delights from Turkey. As a matter of fact, it cost so much to buy real turkish delight that only wealthy people could afford it. Eventually it became a symbol of statue and wealth. Now real turkish delight would taste sweeter than Babish's and would definitely not include as much starch. If you press a turkish delight you can see that it is very squishy and barely holds its shape. I'm turkish and we never make lokum at home, we just buy it from a candyhouse and every candyhouse's lokum tastes slightly different.

My first tooth actually fell because of Turkish Delight. When I was a kid, my family and I flew to Turkey for fun and went to a bazaar and I begged them to buy me a Turkish Delight cause I fell in love with it after reading and watching Narnia. That night in hotel, I snuck out of my room and went to the fridge to stuff my face with it, and as I was eating, my loose tooth got stuck on one and fell out. One of the grossest experience in my life 😂

My "aunt" who was really a close friend of my grandparents used to make these and I never knew what they were called. She made them with different colors and flavors, I have good memories of being at her home and taking one or two off of her nice china plates to take away into the train room. The train room had a model city that went all along the edges of the room, connected my train tracks. The city was always decorated for the holidays and seasons and during winter, an old radio played Christmas tunes while soft white twinkling lights lit up the town and carried the train through the night. Thank you for making this video and restoring a piece of my childhood :)

Turkish Delight is basically sugar diluted with corn starch, with a little flavor extract. It's kinda pretty and the texture is interesting, but it's not as sweet as most modern candy, and it can be hard to find a good natural-tasting flavor extract besides maybe vanilla. If you want something that tastes amazing, try making caramel. It's a similar process, but with a much richer flavor.

It’s just cream/milk and crackers. Get creamer, the most basic kind you can get, like half-and-half, maybe mix it with milk, then dip crackers in it, preferably Ritz.

I knew this comment would be here, and I totally agree. I spent a good 10 years thinking it was some kind of jelly filled cake covered with powdered sugar. I’m sure it taste great but it still broke my heart when I found out.

I buy my turkish delight from a local turkish market. the box contains the two traditional flavors. Rose, and Mastika [an evergreen resin]. Far from an aquired taste, I loved the rose right from the outset. It's sweet, it's rich, and it pleases the senses. I buy myself perhaps, three or four 400 gram boxes of it a year. It's one of my absolute favorite treats, so I buy it sparingly to keep it special. I used to tell my friends "If you eat it every day, it might as well be oatmeal".
