this is perfect!! this will definitely help me make my terrarium bio active without just buying the expensive kit the Bio Dude has:) it’s a great looking kit but inflation is crazy so i’d rather put it together myself. thank you so much!!!

"If there's something you know that I don't know, please comment below. I love to learn stuff. I don't know everything and I'm still learning." THIS IS WHY I LOVE THE REPTILE COMMUNITY. so humble. I've never met a reptile person who "knows everything." I know I definitely don't. P.s. great setup. I learned a lot

Try to feed isopods snake shed they love it. I always put my snakes shed under the bark where my isopods live .

Everything looks fantastic! But I would say perhaps sub peat with coco coir because coir is a waste product, but peat requires the destruction of peat wetlands. They are both compaction resistant, moisture retaining substrates

This was actually very helpful. I have an adult corn snake that I am making a custom home for and am going to make it completely bioactive. Your video helped with the substrate issue for me. I would like to know how yours has held up without the drainage layer? Thank you for the ideas on decorations as well.
@JohanExoticGlobal
@JohanExoticGlobal 2 жыл бұрын
Thats amazing to hear!! It held up very well. But Pretzel grew much quicker than expected.. So she had to move just a few months after. But I have her in a similar terrarium now. And it's doing very well. I basically just keep the side under the water dish moised. But the top usually stays pretty dry! I'll have to make a updated enclousre video some day! :)
@Aklynn
@Aklynn 2 жыл бұрын
@@JohanExoticGlobal Yes, please do. That is good to know, and an interesting idea for the moisture aspect. I have been trying to figure out that issue since I will have live plants and isopods, but I did not want to cause respiratory issues for my snake if it was too moist in there. You have given me some ideas to work with, thank you. I look forward to seeing more of your videos. 🤗

Ya watching you I was thinking it was way too small… so I hope you didn’t buy it and then have to buy another a few months later 🤦🏼‍♀️ .. but now you just have to get something for that enclosure lol

I was wondering about the drainage if it was truly necessary
@grantbradleylow2473

Add drainage layer...it's easy and helps if you overwater....you want to water more on one side depending on plants and to keep it moisture for insects. It's easy to add a drainage layer so why not

Hey Johan, a great video you made. And the enclosure looks amazing. I am a proud owner of a baby cornsnake of my own. I got it almost two weeks ago. I think the snake is round about 30 till 40 cm long. I have it right now in the same faunarium as you had. I am worried, cause it is my first snake, that it can escape. Would you say for the first 2 to 3 months this enclosure is save enough? Cause the lid sitspretty much tight enough, except the middle parts. But you need a little bit strength to put your finger thtough there. I don't want that Alloy escapes in my first weeks that i have her. Greetings from Switzerland.

Hello!! Thank you for your comment. That's awesome that you also got a corn snake. They really are amazing pet snakes! My corn snake never showed that it tried to escape, it was more a personal worry for me. Since I could fit a finger i was scared that she could push herself through the lid. From what I heard, corn snakes are escape artists.. But I can't say I agree, at least from the experience that I have. BUT, I'm defiantly not saying that they are wrong for calling them escape artists. Maybe I was just lucky. They first few months I wasn't worried at all, so I'm sure she will be fine. When she picks up size and grow stronger I would be more worried. That's why i decided to get the terrarium that I got. Now I even have a lock on it.

My cornsnake escaped twice and he was easy to find both times. - First time when he was a juvenile my son left the lock out of the hole in the glass door so he naturally went exploring but as soon as I came in the room, he popped his head out from under a blanket to ask me if I'd any treats :D Second time was breeding season before I'd intended to breed him, you know how teens are! He'd managed to manipulate the plastic bung that allows you to get your wires into the viv out of its housing - I think he just had the perfect size/strength ratio to do this at 2 years old.... Luckily he was easy enough to find. He was lined up along the glass of his girlfriends tank watching the floor show :D she was trying to pop her viv to let him in :D .... 1 year later they've a clutch of 16 waiting to hatch in a few days.

Great video. I'm looking to move to bio active enclosures... cleaning a couple of vivs a month is fine - but 16 is a handful of stimulating environments to maintain. I'm glad you using local isopods - I was wondering are there specific 5* snake friendly isopods you should really have in there or are the local brand just fine? Great tips on keeping parasites out of you setup - I'm on my way to start harvesting a community of the local grown brand and hoping they'll get the job done.

@ThatCornSnakeGuy yes that's what I do I put the water in the cooler end so it stays colder & mist every other day with some moss in a shallow pot up in the warm end. My son has some waters in the warm end of a couple of his viv's. They get algae in them very quickly & the humidity is constant. They don't have constant humidity in the wild but seek out moisture when they need it & that's why I have the water in the cool end & mist when needed.
