It would be nice now that you can actually measure the power spikes. To perform a moderate unservolt or just to lock the voltage for example 0.975 or 1 volt but lock and see if there so many spikes. It would be useful for older power supply to limit the stress? Maybe you can test it on some 30 series thanks in advance

I have coil whine in the fan of Cooler Master V750 PSU only under heavy GPU load . Please can you give me advice how to stop the noise (maybe filter with capacitor or coil on the fan ? ) Thank you in advance !

Which GPU? The PSU probably gets loaded, hence the coil whine noise.

@@HardwareBustersGR I have RX6700XT. The noise came from the fan of the PSU . Today I connected small capacitor to the PSU fan (parallel 47mF/50V ) and like magic the noise stopped - tested for and hour over Furmark load - no sound :) . Thank you again for your reply . How about flashing the card with a 600W bios (Strix OC as an example) but only using the Nvidia 3x8 pin to 12VHPWR adapter. Not the 4x8 pin or a native 12VHPWR. Just the 3x8 pin adapter. To see if it really locks the card to 450W. Since people are getting 600W using only the 3x8 pin

It depends on the settings of the pins on the 3x8pin. If they are set at 600W, it is completely wrong.

ive got a strix 4090 OC and it runs like a ferrari with a steady 3075Mhz, i havent pushed it any higher as im scared the power adaptor will melt so im waiting for a cablemod cable , ive seen a bios update but im too frightened to update it in case it kills the performance by turning down the power

You should get Corsair's own cable which is set for 600W. Just check first if it is compatible with your PSU.

very good video thank you for sharing :) der8auer done a good video on 4090 power, anything over 450w is wasted you can actually set the powerlimit to 80% lose 2-4% performance but also save over 100w of power this is honestly the best solution to 4090s as when overclocking you literally get hardly any gain, on 30 series going to 1900mhz to 2100mhz was quite a difference but on 40 series going from 2800mhz-3000mhz is not as big of a gap as the clocks are already that high there really is no need to overclock these card i would rather from the power limit to 80-90% save some power and lose next to no fps.

performance wise it rocks. Wait for its video-review. Performance difference at stock with the other 4090s is 2-3% at most, but price difference is 300-400 euros.

The cooler does a good job so VRM temperatures are low under normal conditions. Only with the power limit at 500W and OC speeds, VRMs get stressed.

You should check at TechPowerUp's GPU database. I wouldn't go above 450W though in a lower-end card, practically there is minimal performance gain and you will stress the card without any notable gain.

I have the aorus 4090 xtreme waterforce (500w) just flashed to the aorus 4090 master 600w bios but its still saying I hit powerlimit while at 515-530w, and the clock jumps well over my targeted clock causing 3dmark to crash. Don't quite understand whats going on.

Did you increase the power limit to 600W? Also don't expect much with increased power limit. The performance difference is small while power consumption is notably increased.

@@HardwareBusters I did, I maxed the new power limit to 133% (was 111%) and observing the graph during benchmark I never saw the watts hit over 540w but I still saw the Power limit turn on.

You could try one from a card that has the same ports with yours. Currently Asus Rog Strix, the NV FE and I think GBT have full 600W.

You can not flash fe bios to aib card. You can use other aib bios.

I wouldn't recommend it with your GPU. At 520 watts vbios you will never be power limited while gaming. I actually want to flash my PNY with your model vbios.

You need to flash for Voltage, you get no more performance on a 4090 with wattage unless you can add in Voltage! You don’t understand the 40 series are the first gpu’s that benefit the least from power increase

I use 3x8pin adapter came with MSI 4090 GamingX Trio, with SuprimX (520W) vbios. The thing which makes me confuse is that 3x8pin adapter still allow me to increase 16% powerlimit (max 520W) and run stable without any problem 😵

Yes, I think so. The card produce more coilwhine and the small display on my PSU Thor 850W just turned OFF immidiately during heavyload. Just bought 4x8pin adapter on ebay and still using it. No coilwhine and display on my PSU still ON.

I am also scared because we don't have a bios switch and even more scared because I have an Apex Encore motherboard which lacks integrated graphics. If you have integrated graphics, the worst case is you boot into IGPU and flash back your original backup. I have done one flash on my XLR8 4090 but it was risk free. My PNY 4090 shipped with a bios that had the fans spin at minimum 1400 rpm while gaming and it drove me nuts. I flashed an older PNY 4090 vbios and now it doesn't go above 1000 rpm but the power is still 450.@@timtoomuch
