I'm curious about your thoughts on the Hippopotamus Defence as well, as it's another opening with an animal's name. Very tricky to deal with, and resembles The Fort opening you teach beginners! Have you ever gotten good games with it?

I think it's a great system. I have never played it, but I had been destroyed b y it 🤓

Except Bird's opening is named after Henry Bird, a human. I suppose humans are animals too.

I wanted to get to the middle games in a local chess congress, but with more common openings that they are well prepped for. I went for this after watching your videos and well, I came joint first, winning both my white games with the bird. Thank you 😁

@@NMRobertRamirez When you do, can you please make sure to cover From's gambit during it? That's the one line that seems to give me the most trouble when playing Bird's Opening. Whenever I look for advice on it people just say, "Transpose into the Kings Gambit" which I'm not very comfortable playing.

Nice game! I used to play Bird's exclusively and since I knew it well I would always have a time advantage. I drew a player 500 points higher with it in Classic time control long ago.

I never played this opening before; I'm usually d4 with white. First game I beat a WCM with it. The openings I've learned from you have changed the way I see the board; I've always been very practical and never bothered with gambits or studying openings; I just like to get to the middle game where I can use my knowledge of chess without tricks. You've made chess so much more enjoyable!! I was ok before..1700-1900 blitz on Lichess. My rating went down a bit learning them, however I don't run so hot and cold like I used to. I play the Colle religiously lately and I'm like 80 to 95% accurate with it

Hi Rob. I'm really eager to learn the bird - there are two courses on Chessable, one covers classical and the other covers Leningrad... which would you recommend and why? I've also read that it can transpose into Stonewall so I'm hopeful I could combine it with your upcoming course!

I lost to this opening against a much lower rated opponent otb. I consider myself a superior tactical player but unfortunately I didn't understand the positional and strategic ideas behind 1. f4. In the game the opponent took my knight on c6 as in your game and kept the position fully closed with all pawns on the board. I've never seen this before and wasn't expecting it. Eventually, my position became so passive that all I could do is sit and wait for the inevitable. Since then I've been working hard at understanding pawn structure nuances so I lose in the same fashion again.

Why and how on earth, I’m a business analyst, analysing data is sort of the most boring job on the planet after 5 years, you are not only used to it, but the repetitiveness is just omg. And somehow, his voice and explanation, by far, is the easiest to take in and memorise.
