As Johanna mentioned, they can be repaired as you put wear and tear on them. They can pretty much be rebuilt from the ground up...and all you need to do is find a shoe repair place near you that is certified to repair Birks. I have done it so many times and it will save you a ton of money. You were saying you hope they last a couple years and I kind of laughed as I have pairs that are 12 to 15 years old. All I wear is Birkenstock, originally because I developed severe Plantar Fasciitis, but the degree of comfort and durability is a landslide of a win. Truly, do not toss them after 2 years..save that money for a different addiction...like maybe cell phones.. haha :)

I have had Birkenstock sandals for over 6 years. I got my first pair at GOODWILL brand new with tags and they lasted over 4 years of constant wear. At the time I didn't know that the cork could dry out and crumble away over time so i did have to get rid of them. They were the mocha Florida style with genuine leather and omg I loved them! I was without my Birks for almost 2 years and no other shoe gave me support like those so I eventually saved and got myself a brand new pair of Mayaris for my birthday this past March! My straps are Birko-Flor (faux leather) in the light brown and I got the care kit this time as well so I know for a fact I'll be keeping these around for a LONG time! I checked online a a while back and Birkenstock also makes slip-resistant shoes so I may or may not be saving for a pair. I work at a restaurant so that means long hours on my feet and lord knows by back and legs aren't too happy after that.

You can hammer the toe bar out if its uncomfortable. I do that to any new pair I buy before I wear them.

@@nataliefields9009 take a hammer and lightly hit the toe bar. It will soften it so it doesnt stick up as much. I do it to all mine before I start wearing them.

At first, I thought they're "meh, this feels weird...", but after wearing them for hours, I fell in love with them! You can even wear them with thin socks too! I wear the Birkenstock Gizeh in size 41 with bare feet. I have had them in black and now tobacco brown. They are great shoes to wear, and really amazing when they mold. So nice! The Mayari look amazing to wear also! 😍 ❤️

Mine get that way too because I wear them so much! There are some great videos on how to clean birkenstocks here on KZbin. The videos will do a better job at explaining the optimal cleaning method than I can. 😁

Is this style made specifically made for women even though Birkenstock advertise it as unisex shoe? I have seen a guy wear this style and I like how it look so I think I will get a pair. I just worry that the toe loop might break as I have seen reviewer complain about it. I see guys wear gizeh which has men style in ramses. I have arizona and gizeh style.

Personally, I think everything can be unisex... if you like it, wear it! If you are wearing something you love, it will always look good. I personally have not had any problems with the toe loop breaking. 😊

They are not very breathable- especially compared to other types of sandals. So yes, they get kinda sweaty sometimes, but they are still more breathable than a pair of sneakers. 👟😊

Let you Birkenstock sandals dry in front of a fan after each wearing. If they do get stinky, put sand in them and wear another sandal.

Thanks! They were perfect for my recent trip walking around Chicago. The only time I regretted wearing them was when I was sightseeing around New York City and we walked about 13 miles in one day. I love them for the vast majority of trips, but i recommend supportive tennis shoes for anything super intense. :)
