Having met Colonel Sanders when I was a teenager in the 1970s, I've always appreciated his success story. And I still have the autographed picture he gave me!

My late grandma used to make chicken like his. She did it in the pressure cooker with the spices, and its nothing like the modern KFC chicken. They changed the recipe when he sold the company and Colonel Sanders hated that.

My wife's grandfather was good friends with the Colonel. He lived just down the road from him which was hwy 160 from Henryville is not far from Charlestown IN where my wife grew up. The Sanders family lived in that area for years. When my wife's grandmother passed away in the early 00's her funeral was hailed in Henryville and inside the funeral home I didn't know this at the time. But they had a picture of Colonel Sanders in the lobby at the funeral home. I asked the funeral director why is there a picture of the colonel here? The funeral director said that he was born here in Henryville and he's buried in Louisville. Thanks for vlogging there.

This is the BEST history I've seen on Kentucky Fried Chicken, Jordan! As for the "finger lickin' good" slogan I guess with all the fear of germs you can't lick your fingers, go figure! The cooler/warmer bag how cool, I guess it's "Skip the Dishes" who stole his idea. KFC is good up here in Canada but like everything else it is becoming so commercialized that it's also changing the quality of the food, let alone the serve. Up here you can now get two pieces of chicken for $2 but with no fries. It is interesting to listen to the people order this and then be surprised when there are no fries. The commercial is not misleading as it says two pieced of chicken. Keep up the great work Jordan, your videos are top-notch!

I was about four years old when I met him at Dulles International Airport. He was in the white suit and everything. My mother said that he walked up to me, leaned over and said "Little girl, do you like my chicken?" Apparently I looked up at him without a smile and said "Nope." My mother said he avoided me after that. I came to love his chicken later!!

Thank you for this episode. My mother remembers eating at the restaurant in Corbin. She was born in Harlan KY, not far away. She lived in a coal mining camp on the KY-VA border. They would stop there in Corbin on their to Cincinnati to visit family on my grandfather's side of the family. Good memories for her. She is now 85 years young. My grandfather worked for Peabody Coal Co. Her whole family are from eastern Ky.

I worked at Winston Products in Louisville for over 10 years. That is where the KFC Pressure fryers are made. The founder Winston Shelton worked with Col Sanders to develop the Pressure Fryer and partnered with him to make them. To this day the most of the KFC stores still use the Collectramatic Pressure Fryer from Winston. Some of the franchise stores use Henny Penny or Hobart fryers who have tried to mimic the Winston Fryer but the corporate stores are still contracted with Winston to this day. Actually all of Yum brands are contracted with Winston because they also make CVAP holding cabinets and Ovens to cook and hold food for serving. Winston Shelton passed away just a few years ago and was still coming to work almost every single day in his 90s until he passed. Pretty cool history that goes alongside KFC and Colonel Sanders that most people aren't aware of.

They really cleaned up this place. Visited this a few years ago and it was in disrepair. I'm happy that they restored it and added the museum. You're in the part of the country where they distill the best bourbons on earth. Don't know if you will but, it would be a fantastic side trip to visit some amazing distilleries...Bufalo Trace, Woodford Reserve, Wild Turkey and Four Roses just to name a few. Awesome tours and real history.

Jordan my brother in law (who’s much older than my sister) worked for Mr. Sanders in the 50’s as a protege of sorts. I live in Mississauga Ontario Canada where Harlan lived and donated a million dollars to a hospital in the city. I believe his official residence was here till his death. One of the last original restaurants here down the street from me was Scott’s Chicken Villa which was probably an alternate name but under the Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise as were many other locations in Ontario. They are all under KFC if the locations still exist.

I was raised in Barbourville (15 miles from Corbin) and also lived in Corbin. My mom, along with other relatives are buried in Corbin. Been in Minnesota since 1999. I've eaten at the Kentucky Fried Chicken in Corbin many times. It's still good, unlike some of the KFCs around the country. Also, it pissed me off when they changed their name to KFC to hide the word "Fried". The overall product has gone downhill over the last 30 years.

Few know that in latter years, he purchased a home at 1334 Melton Drive in Mississauga Ontario Canada in the 1970s. As a teen in the 70s I met him at our local Dixie Plaza. Same famous garb! Treated like crap in the USA in latter life, he left the USA for good to Canada where he was treated as a gem! He opened his own Canadian company, "Scott's Chicken Villa" which was EXTREMELY profitable and successful. This "doc" fails to tell the tale of how the USA eventually treated him like dirt and of how much he LOVED Canada.
