I discovered your videos just a couple of months ago, and now I find myself watching at least one of them every day. What a wonderful idea to use this medium to spread the word. I enjoy most of all the way I gain new perspective on biblical stories that I already know. Thanks for the time and effort you put into this. Merry Christmas Father Barron and may God bless you!

dear Bishop Barron, i saw your talk about how you will try to continue these "u-tube talks" after your being made bishop. i have been watching them for quite some time now, & i'm praying even w/ all your many many responsibilities, you WILL! i luv the format , feels as if your w/ a small group, & U are having an intimate "teaching" session. Of course your gift of commentary & just speaking in general, is like few others , & seems genuinely humble too! i'm praying you'll find a wee bit of time to continue! & i'm praying for U; you DON"T kno the impact & ease it's had on me, & i'm sure many others.....(esp since i"m disabled) My parish priest , a vry vry young priest 1 yr out of seminary said to me when visiting me, " if you are a Bishop Barron "follower" you're def on the right track!" God Bless You! & Christmas Blessings 2 U . i'm donating 2 Word on Fire for Christmas! much love 2 you!!

Father, Thank you for your insights and hard work. Jesus girds a sword, and says he came to bring one...How are we to view this in light of Catholic teachings? He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.” -Luke 22:36, NIV

that was the word that went through my head when they read the Gospel at the Christmas Eve vigil mass. A "stratius" of angels. (also the picture of the crèche scene, very beautiful btw, is the same picture Catholic Professionals of Illinois emailed with their Christmas greetings.)

Interestingly, after the "army" of angels announce Jesus' birth, the Gospel makes the point that they go back to heaven. Jesus doesn't need them to conquer. He will conquer in a completely different way.

Christendom was a union of three things: the nervous genius of the Teutons; the fundaments of Classical civilization and the adoption of Christianity (Christopher Dawson). Of course, Christianity had pre-eminence - the primacy of the spiritual. It is the Feast of the Epiphany where these three realities are brought together. It is the wise men, replete with the learning of the day who brook no distraction in order to place themselves at the crib.

"And the angel answering, said to her: The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the most High shall overshadow thee. And therefore also the Holy which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. " - Luke 1:35 Yes, Jesus Christ always had myriads of Holy Angels as His Army. Why did He Command us to be His Army in so many ways? For example, when He said to Pilate you have no power over Me than has been given to you from Above because Providence had it that way; Jesus Christ is telling us we have no power over the helpless than what has been given from Above. And since we are supposed to be diligent ardent witnesses; imitating Christ; to spread & witness The Kingdom of God as far and wide as we can --- since our citizenship is supposed to be in Heaven while we sojourn on the earth; --- when He says, if My Kingdom were of this world then myriads of witnesses would be here to protect Me --- that means we are Commanded to protect the helpless. Bishop Fulton J. Sheen taught this. John Cardinal O'Connor taught this. Dietrich von Hildebrand taught this. Priests For Life teaches this. When Bishop Fulton J. Sheen taught on Matthew 25:31-46 he taught that through Christ's Presence in us by The Word, The Eucharist and The Spirit; that also the helpless unearned suffers by Baptism by Ordeal who, through no fault of their own, were not Graced with The Immeasurable Gift God gives us - are also adopted into The Mystical Body of Christ. And in a very special Graced way, at The Consecration of The Bread separated from The Wine. _____ The incontrovertible historical evidence of the infiltration of The Church that Bishop Sheen and others in The Remnant Church then and now ---- yes shows up in the extreme sorrowful heart breaking heinous child abuse cover ups. The whirlwind we are reaping goes very much farther. But over the decades, even Seminarians of good will got cleverly crafted (hidden political agenda) teaching. The clear Light that Jesus Christ fully among us as been obscured in ambiguous language as to how much to witness to others; where to give our consent to be governed adjudicated and so forth to promote The Kingdom of God in politics while opposing obvious grave moral evil, letting 'Saul Alinsky _Rules For Radicals_' type community organizing hidden in the bias media using many real human situations, stereotypes, bias language veiled cleverly to be objective, switching sides from Natural Law correct to pandering correct as needed; --- and so forth; opposed by way less than assertive language regarding The Kingdom of God virtues & complete morality from way too many in every stewardship level in The Church. The Myriads of Holy Angels and Saints are praying for us to wake up. We need more of homilies like Fr. Larry Richards, "Enough" --- many more --- and we need much more encouragement to be myriads of witness in Jesus Christ's Army. We need more of every stewardship level in The Church to see through the fog of ambiguity to shine The Lamp of Christ on every hillside. Don't we?

What we HAVE is a manner of godliness without a true manifestation of POWER in our individual lives. We have MASS Christianization. What we NEED is the fruits of the OVERWHELMING Victory of Christ on the Cross which frees him to impart to us with everything we need to accomplish His Will through a clear VISION of His CAUSE. This includes having POWER and AUTHORITY over ALL the power of the enemy, tearing down the strongholds that keep men from finding God (Islam would not have ever began if this scripture had been made a reality way back then) and keeping us from falling in the process. We NEED His FIRE, His LOVE, His VISION, His GUIDANCE, we need HIM! If all this had taken place this mess we're in would have ended centuries ago and our planet would be free of its enemies, our enemies, HIS enemies!

Luke's parallels for Jesus are inverse to Caesar's: He goes from Nazareth "up" to Bethlehem, yet Nazareth is higher. No place for him in the guest quarters, born with livestock, too poor to offer a lamb, only two turtledoves, the "real" son of David and God, while Augustus was the adopted son of the "Divine One". Augustus takes over his father's business-Julius, while Jesus says he must be about "his" father's business (affairs). Syria annexes Judea in the "governing" of the world, yet Jesus places the "governing" of the world on his shoulder. There is Pax Romana (earthly peace), and there is "peace on earth", and good will among men with Jesus.

Most Christian scholars of world renown do not consider the Nativity historical. The two accounts in the gospels contradict each other. The nativity was added as a back story because Christians wished people to know how important Yeshua was. So essentially it never happened. No immaculate conception. No virgin birth. No journey to Bethlehem. No magi. No guiding star. No nativity. No persecution of first born males by Herod. It’s a mythical story filled with symbolism and little or no history.
@BishopBarron
@BishopBarron 7 жыл бұрын
Not so! You've got to expand your reading list, friend, beyond liberal scholarship. Many reputable authors would hold that there is an historical core to the nativity stories, though they have been embellished in order to make certain theological points. For the details, read Ben Witherinton III or Joseph Ratzinger.
@myopenmind527
@myopenmind527 7 жыл бұрын
Bishop Robert Barron not so. Not sure why you align with fundamentalists? Perhaps that’s necessary if you live & work in the USA. As I said the two nativity narratives cannot reasonably be reconciled. Furthermore there is no historical evidence for the nativity narrative. Luke & Matthew put Yeshua in Bethlehem in order to fulfill prophecy. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpDHgJudYqujq5I You need to go back to your source material and what we know to be historical if your apologetics is to be remotely credible. The nativity never happened. We don’t know where Yeshua was born and he certainly wasn’t famous at the time of his birth. That is a “subversive” narrative to borrow from your presentation.
@kdmdlo
@kdmdlo 7 жыл бұрын
To begin, the Immaculate Conception refers to Mary's conception, not Christ's. But that notwithstanding, you assert a fact (that these events are fictitious). And then you use those accumulated "facts" to draw the conclusion that the Gospels are unreliable histories. Fine. Then the onus is on you to demonstrate that your asserted "facts" are, in fact, "facts". Until you do, there's no reason to buy into your conclusion
@myopenmind527
@myopenmind527 7 жыл бұрын
Kevin Murphy I’m aware that the immaculate conception it the myth that Mary was born to a virgin. All post hoc narratives intended to give Yeshua’s life and origins significance which they lacked in reality. As for my list of point regarding the claimed nativity and origins, these are claims made by Christians and the anonymous authors of the gospels. Your claims, not grounded in history, not supported by any contemporaneous writing. There are no good reasons to believe these claims. If you can prove them to be historical then you are the first Christian to do so. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jp6QZHV4hLJ8mac Christian scholars of world renown do not consider the nativity historical. It’s not mentioned in the earliest Christian writing of Peter & Mark. It’s added by later authors to fulfill prophecy and to give Yeshua a back story. It is widely accepted that he was born and raised in Nazareth.

Fr. Robert Barron What's changed is that the more mature levels of Christianity are being made accessible to more people, and for some this can be fightening. I feel uneasy about the word "mature" in this context because it sounds condescending. Your teaching, while not unorthodox, is very uncomfortable for a lot of people. Conversly, this teaching may bring many others back to God. “Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you." Matthew 7:7 (NRSV)
