You make Catholicism the most desirable religion on earth & I want to thank you for bringing me back to The Church! Padre Fábio de Melo is also super popular in Portuguese. Padre Reginaldo Manzotti. All very different among themselves and different from Bishop Barron.

He was speaking in the language they could understand; he was showing them the connection between the Son of God and logos of the cosmos, and that this logos has entered time and history. Figuratively speaking, the Greeks are studiously chasing rays of light and John is telling them "here's the sun."

God is the mystery that will always keep ou mind rejoicing, as radioactivity should never be of direct connection. There is an enormous wealth of information that explains these things. True Devotion to Mary & The Secret of the Rosary by St Louis de Montfort are favorites of mine. The Blessed Virgin Mary in Scripture by Tim Staples does a good job explaining things. Writings and speeches of Mother Teresa. The list is huge on the why. As far as apparitions and such, we have to remember that they are private revelations and take the proper precautions of the Magisterium on them. Some are heresy...

Although some aspects of the pagan ritual, such as gift-giving, feasting, and the celebration of freedom, are not out of place as long as they are infused with a Christian spirit and practice. And then God realized he was God and the source of all Goodness and His Son Jesus was sent on Christmas to forgive everybody and their prodigal sons and fathers. A good time was had by all!

Father Barron, on the issue of Christmas, there is debate on a mythical being known as Mithras whom is said to be the reason for Christmas instead of Jesus. Can you explain more on him and his relation to Jesus? He is somewhat brought up by few atheists such as Stephen Fry.

@xxHighChiefxx Mithraism was a Roman mystery religion contemporaneous to early Christianity. Its deity, Mithras, had his birthday placed on the winter solstice, which is a fairly universal holy day throughout different religions throughout the world. Some people like to make a big deal out of this and claim some nefarious act of plagiarism, but the truth is much simpler: the Church deliberately put Christmas on the 25th to coopt solstice celebrations and convert pagans.

I'm not Catholic, but Methodist, but a lot of my recent conversations with Catholics leads me to believe we believe the same thing, just that we word it differently. We are saved by grace, but judged by works. The works we do is the proof of our faith. Without the proof our faith is dead. It is like saying "I love you" to your wife but never doing anything to back those words up. Eventually they will become empty words.

As a physicist I would like to take issue with the claim that a basic assumption of science (there are no basic assumptions in science) is that the universe is intelligible and rational. To make that assumption would be skipping steps. Indeed some aspects of the universe may not be intelligible. We LOOK for patterns at the edge of that which is known, but it is not assumed that we will find rational explanations to all phenomena or that such explanations even exist.

We must recognize our weakness and miserable state to understand what a great and beautiful thing Christ did in condescending to come down to us. His Grace is so complete because of that condescension, not just to come here, but to do His Father's Will in not showing, but giving us "The Way" through His sacrifice and death at the hands of the people he meant to save. We are so low and only He can lift us.

Bishop Barron, thanks for your usual great insights. There is something I have been having a problem fully grasping, it is based on the theology of John's gospel I believe, it is as follows (not even sure how best to ask/word it, here goes): How can Christ (the Word) always have existed with God as second person of the trinity? Is it that He (Christ) has always been separate from God in terms of the trinity. I recognize that God is spirit and would have only taken on human form in the incarnation in the person of Jesus Christ. Is it that there was an aspect of himself (God) that identified as the second person of the trinity which became enfleshed in/as Jesus? How can Jesus Christ always have existed? I ask this because before creation God was un-objectified as He had not spoken anything into being yet...so before doing so, was there distinctive trinity? Not sure if I have asked my question well enough, it is a complex concept for me.

Offtopic, but I alwats wanted to ask this to a priest: Considering how large is the universe, it's likely that somewhere other forms of intelligent life exist. The Bible, as it was written by people who knew little about the universe (I'm not blaming them) considered humans as the center of God's attention. However, IF other intelligent life forms exist somewhere in the universe, would you think they are also important to God? Would He turned into their flesh as Jesus here? Could they be saved?
