Paradise City was released on the 1987 album Appetite for Destruction with the MV released in 1988. This song is Slash's favorite song. This song tells about the city of heaven on earth. Quite mundane indeed. This song was created when Guns N' Roses was on their way back from performing in San Francisco. At that time, Axl Rose was singing the phrase 'take me down to the paradise city' to which the guitarist, Slash, responded with the phrase 'where the grass is green and the girls are pretty'. Then ended by Axl with 'take me home'.

True story, back in the day I was in the Army. Some of my friends and I rented a house off-post (mostly for partying). I was dating a girl, she had brought her sister over. We were hanging out eating Otterpops (this was in Oklahoma during summer, so hot out), I think we were playing this album. This girls sister was sure the name of the song was "Prairie Dog City", I still laugh about that. Say what you will, the 80's were pretty fun.

He didn't. But he still had a range better than most. And he doesn't. In his prime - he was a true singing beast, in one breath counted alongside legends.

Wrong......he has 5 octaves. Corey taylor has more (5.5 octaves) and Mike patton of faith no more/mr bungle has over 6 octaves. Myles Kennedy is way better that axl rose. In one breath. 👍
@NZLatic2 жыл бұрын
Myles Kennedy might have a bigger vocal ranger than Axl (debatable but possible) but he has to be one of the most boring vocalists of all time. Axl had all the swag and charisma, and his voice was different - it had its own sound and characteristics. Axl always reminded me of a heavy sounding Mick Jagger. I’d have have Axl over Myles any day of the week.
@ianfinney78202 жыл бұрын
@@NZLatic I used to love all the swagger and attitude of axl Rose when they were in their prime and I was a teenager. (Never liked mock jagger and the stones still to this day) as I have grown into my late 40's I don't look for that in a front man anymore. I prefer myles Kennedy as he is a nice guy down to earth and a much better human being that axl Rose ever was. Still, never gonna take away the talent that axl Rose has as I still to this day enjoy listening to guns and roses to this day. Just my opinion.

The album this is off of, Appetite For Destruction, was the first album I ever bought with my own money. It was a few years after it came out and I got the money doing a paper route back when kids could still do that and my first paycheck I bought this immediately. I had heard 3 songs from the album that were videos on MTV and on the radio but I needed to hear all of it. Found out REAL quick why they didn't play those songs on tv or radio 😂. Five years ago I FINALLY saw them. One of my bucket list bands for sure. This was the last song they played. They played for 3 and a half hours! So, yeah, even all these decades later Axl can still sing this one no problem after a long show. As for recommendations I have 2 (you know besides EVERY GNR song): 1. Rocket Queen (from the same album as this song). 2. A very underrated one that Guns N Roses have never played live called Don't Damn Me.

I have flashbacks to being 5 years old in 1988, and jamming out to this song playing on the radio while sitting the in the back seat of my mom's car with a mullet going halfway down my back lol. Love this band's music. Such amazing musicians. I always loved how Izzy and Slash would play guitar parts that were separate from each other, but still blended together. Slash was one of the reasons I picked up guitar. As I got good enough to get into bands, no one was looking for yet another guitarist, but bassists and drummers instead. I eventually said fuck it, and moved over to playing bass. The first band I played in covered like 6 Guns N' Roses songs. I quickly learned how underrated Duff McKagan is as a bassist, and he ended up becoming an accidental influence on bass that made me become a much better bassist than I was ready for lol. This song is so fun and upbeat for a song about a person in prison wanting to get released, or to go to heaven depending on interpretation. ‘Where the girls are pretty’ aka not what options are available in prison. ‘The grass is green’ exercise yards in prison are often called greens, despite most being cement now. Talks about being in the electric chair & governor’s rep telling him to have a final smoke… sooooo many references!
