This is not about the invasion of Poland in 1939. It’s about 1944 when the Soviet Union was pushing towards Warsaw and the polish started a rebellion, expecting Russia to help, but the help never came. The Russian stoped outside of Warsaw and waited for the rebellion to be crushed by the Germans and not until then they entered the city. Stalin figured out that if the rebellious people were crushed they would cause no problem when Russia took control of the country.
@1982jeepcj87 ай бұрын
Worse than that the other allies only made a few airdrips in support of the uprising because the fighting in Holland was going poorly,(MARKET GARDEN) AND Stalin would not give permission for planes to use Soviet airfields in effect, thus was important because Warsaw was a stretch for Brotish and AmericN planes to.reach even though the Russuians were basically there, he still prevented anyone else from helping the inhabitants of Warsaw, the Nazi German SS units basically ground the city until one brick was not on another.

Poland was occupied from 1939. It's been 5 rough years. The plan was to free the city of Warsaw before the Red Army came. To welcome them as allies, not as liberators. If that was to fail, the Soviet/Russians would join the fight. They didn't. The Warsaw Uprising lasted for 63 days and the Russians stood on the other side of Vistula River and watched the city bleed dry. After the uprising fell Himmler gave the order "The city must completely disappear from the surface of the earth and serve only as a transport station for the Wehrmacht. No stone can remain standing. Every building must be razed to its foundation." And razed it was. 85% of the city was destroyed. If you were to visit the city now, it's all rebuilt after the war.

to be fair, introducing new soldiers into an already boiling city, would only have escalated things further. but the airdrop shit is not cool.
@najroe7 ай бұрын
@@scar445 yes, but, doing nothing, even going so far as stopping fighting at the front so germans had troops to spare, thus allowing Nazi to kill huge numbers then going in to city anyway with artillery, house to house fighting... is not exactly lowering losses. also not allowing supplies to get through, not nice? or what about "disappearing" envoys wanting to negotiate.

They sure know how to tap into the popular historical sentiment. For the sake of perspective, the Swedish "deluge" of 1655-60 wreaked as much havoc and destruction on Poland as the German occupiers in 1939-45, some say even more. But time helps in letting bygones be bygones.
