Miss Biss, one of the unique talents that Vulcan have is the Vulcan Nerve Pinch. All through the original series Spock almost never hit anyone because he never had to. He just reaches out and pinches them very lightly on the shoulder/side of the neck and they pass out. So when he’s fighting Khan he tried to do that and the struggle on Khan’s face was to show he was so powerful that Spock couldn’t just overload his nervous system. You seemed confused, but there’s no way you could know about that since you haven’t watched much Star Trek.

Class M comes from the Vulcan classification (M for Minch'ara) that Earth took as a reference. It describes livable planets for humanoïds like us or Vulcans. IRL we would classify those as Earth type planets. The big disk on the front of the cylindrical part of the ship is the main deflector, pushes space dust out of the way. Can emmit some EM waves too to serve as long range sensor or transmitter in some circumstances. Vulcans are telepaths although it requires contact, physical or close. In the Ancient Vulcan practices, Vulcans mindmelded with a dying person to keep that person's memory intact, so their knowledge and experiences were not lost. The Vulcan Nerve Pinch (on the neck) is designed to make someone lose consciousness. Doesn't work on every species though. Fun fact, in the previous movie you watched, the Klingons actually captured Nero and tortured him but that scene was scrapped from the movie. Uniforms color code in those three movies and the Original series: Yellow/Gold : Operations/Command. Blue : Science/Medical Red : Engineering/Security. In The Next Generation era productions, Gold and Red are reversed, Red is Command and Gold is Operations/Engineering/Security. Kronos should be spelled Qu'onos or I never know where the ' is supposed to be anyway, Klingonese is quite a difficult language (that you can learn for real... but be ready to have mediation for your throat) Kahn's story is a little different in the Second old movie, you should watch TOS episode Space Seed first. The problem with Into Darkness is that it changes what Space Seed would have been in making Marcus and not Kirk find Kahn, that's why watching the episode is better to understand Wrath of Kahn to see the original succession of events. Although, I don't remember seeing the actual episode before the movie (the movies summerizes what happened in the episode anyway...) so it's up to you. Don't worry about Into the Abrams trilogy, it just introduces you to the universe in a very condensed way. The original Kirk is flirty but not as much as young cocky Kirk here, they clearly exaggerrated the "womanizer" side of the character. You are smart enough to detect a bullshit scenario from lightyears away, that's why you will love the old movies.

I'm glad you started this journey. There are going to be people (just like in any fandom) that don't like reboots, or complain about ine thing or another, but as a fan of TOS, the original movies, TNG and the Star Trek universe, I'm glad that these new movies have brought newer fans into the universe and made them curious about exploring more. There are many things about this newer series of movies that will be difficult to understand regarding the importance of because of how it relates to the original series and movies, but if you choose to continue your journey and go back and watch them, will end up making much more sense. So many people choose not to do Star Trek because it is pretty vast, with lots of shows and lots of science things. However, there are many things in real life that have been directly inspired from the movies, including the old flip cell phones, as they look like TOS original communicators and more recently with tablet computers. Don't be intimidated and enjoy the ride. Many of us older fans are just happy that new people take a genuine interest in the universe. 🖖

The Wrath of Kahn will not answer all your questions. You need to watch the original series episode "Space Seed". The is the origin of all of the Kahn movies. If you watch Wrath of Kahn without watching Space Seed, you will be watching all three in reverse order. The correct order and the one that would allow you to watch and not end each with more questions is "Space Seed", then "Wrath of Kahn", and lastly "Into Darkness".

The atmosphere is life sustaining for carbon based life forms (like humans and Vulcans) and plant life and animal life can flourish there. Their look has also changed several times since the 60's for various reasons, and as one famous Klingon once said 'it is a long story'. As for Khan, watch the episode Space Seed from the original series before the Wrath of Khan for more context. be wary though - once you're hooked, you're hooked for ever. And there's a lot of Trek out there - animated series, spin-offs, movies. Enjoy.

42:56 "Vulcans do _not_ lie." Well now, first, Khan was not accusing Vulcans of lying. He was accusing _Spock_ who is half human. But second, this is a persistent and curiously puzzling notion that keeps getting connected with Vulcans. Vulcans strive for a life of stoic devotion to _logic;_ not _truth._ Proper acquaintance with the Spock canon involves familiarity with the _numerous_ occasions when he has outright _lied._ He did so because it was _logical._ Remember that Vulcans are a member of the interstellar community. They've been out here, among the stars, centuries longer than _humans._ They would be unable to do that if they had no capacity for _deception,_ because as the philosopher of war, Sun Tzu, once observed, "All of warfare is based on deception." The moment a war breaks out, the inability to lie is a _disastrous_ impediment. Those who cannot lie cannot _survive._

Just in case you didn't know: Benedict Cumberbatch also spoke the dragon Smaug in the Hobbit trilogy. And not only is his voice great. He is HELL of an actor (but i guess you already noticed that). As for The Wrath of Khan (played by the great Ricardo Montalban) is the 2nd Startrek movie, so it's not such a long way til ya there when you start at the 1st one. Klingons are not really the BAD guys, just a race of awesome fighters who value honour the most. In this time here they were enemies of the federation, but later they even joined the federation. Greets from the "Kohlenpott", enjoy!

When you asked what’s the differences when it comes to the colors of their uniforms, it’s like this… Blue is for medical and science. Gold is for command positions and if I’m not mistaken for the pilots. Red is for engineering, security and communications. Of course someone can correct me if I’m wrong.

If you want to understand the dynamics of Khan you first have to go back to his original Star Trek appearance. The StarTrek series episode that starts Khan is titled Star Seed.

I think the new movies are the best place for a new Trek watcher to start. The older movies I think rely a lot on you having watched the original series. These are all self contained and a lot of fun.

If you are going to watch The Wrath of Khan, you may want to first watch an episode of the original 60s TV show, called "Space Seed" - it's the episode on which Khan first appeared, and the movie (Wrath) is technically a sequel to that episode.

I'm sure about a million people will respond, but about the color of the uniforms in this era.... yellow is command or management. HR kind of stuff. blue is for the science and medical positions. and red if for security and anything technical (engineering, communications, etc.)

Biskit you are so intuitive and even 200 IQ sometimes. I think you lucked into a really good watch cycle. If you start watching the older Trek movies you will understand everything much quicker than a mortal. And the new movies have absolutely no spoilers for the old TV series and movies.

Yes Dr Strange is Marvel played by the actor playing Kahn in this. Dr who is a whole other universe/series you might want to get into at some point but it's a BIG commitment. Id recommend putting your Kahnuriosity on hold for a bit. If you went to Wrath of Kahn straight from here it could get confusing.

This has been repeatedly said by other commenters, so I'll just add my voice to the chorus: it's ESSENTIAL that before you watch "The Wrath of Khan" movie, you first watch the episode of the original Star Trek series called "Space Seed." Also just to make "Space Seed" more understandable it wouldn't hurt to watch at least two or three other original Star Trek episodes first, just to put things in context. I'm sure your Patreon members can recommend specific episodes. If you take the time to do this you'll find that all the pieces will fall into place neatly and your enjoyment of all of the original Star Trek movies will be much greater.

Alice Eve(Carol Marcus) is in other science fiction films. "Men In Black 3," "Replicas," "Warning," and "Criminal" come to mind. She's also unforgettable as the title character in "She's Out Of My League." Zoe Saldana, however, is the queen of recent visual medium sci-fi, with this trilogy, the MCU, and the Avatar movies.

Khan hates Vulcan Massage is an alternative title. Vulcans have the power to pinch a person on the neck and knock them out. Spock tries this on Khan. It definitely looks weird if you don't know about that power. Star Trek has lots of great stories to tell. Have fun exploring them.

Biss, to answer your question, the Klingons are a highly militaristic species/empire, particularly in this part of the Trek timeline.

I was born before Star Trek came out in the 1960"s. Watching the original TV series can seem a little nostalgic now days and bring fond memories of childhood. But if you're a new fan born around the 2000's the TV series may seem cheesy watching the first episodes although fun. Remember when "LOTR" came out in reverse and then "The Hobbit" movies. Now that you've watched the new Star Trek movies and learned the beloved characters, watching the original movies and TV shows will mean all the more to you. When you hear the names Jim, Spock, and McCoy it will warm your heart like Frodo, Harry Potter, Luke Skywalker and Indiana Jones or Rocky. Enjoy the journey and thanks for such great reactions.

The uniform colors do have meaning. Gold is command, blue is science and medical, and red is engineering, operations, and security. There is a bit of a joke about "Red Shirts" in Star Trek, that they are the disposable extras who die instead of the main characters. If Kirk and Spock go down to a planet with two characters in red shirts who we have not seen before, guess which characters aren't going to survive the mission.

As others mentioned, Kahn's story begins in the original series episode "Space Seed", and continues in the second movie "The Wrath Of Kahn". Don't miss the episode, as it gives you all you need to know to really understand Kahn and the second movie (and this one as well). And since the original series was serialized, you can watch that episode without needing to watch any other, no harm done. It'll help you understand Kahn and at the same time, help you understand if watching the original series is your cup of tea. While I love it myself, and the storytelling is on point, the show's special effects are well dated, and the pacing is much slower than what we're used to these days. Watching one episode will help you decide if you want the rest of them, or if you'll move on directly to the movies.
