Old Sci-fi. Ok Bis. There is a whole franchise on this one but you cannot start anywhere but the first 1968 movie "Planet of the Apes". I like the others for different reasons, but that one is classic sci-fi for sure and it (for full effect) needs to be watched before any of the others. It stars Charlton Heston. Not sure if you have watched a movie with him in it yet. Even by todays standards it is a unique type of movie. The music is amazing.

I'm a fan of Star Trek since I watched the original series on my parents' black & white TV as a kid. Watched Star Trek for the first time in colour in Star Trek the Movie (1979) in theater - what an epic experience! JJ Abrams' remake has a perfect cast, but is a bit too crash boom bang. For the third movie - Star Trek Beyond - I really really hoped to be a huge epic space opera in theater. But it was crash boom bang too. Nevertheless - I'm a fan and still waiting for part 4!

One of my favorite things about star trek movies/TV shows is the humor. They are not comedies of course but, the characters on the screen are so relatable that simple dialogue between them is enough to produce laugh-out-loud moments.

So, Edison was a MACO, which you can see in the prequel TV series Enterprise. He mentions the Xindi, which are also introduced in that series. Without giving any spoilers away specifically about it. Bisscute, glad to see your beautiful face in a video again! Star Trek is a HUGE body of material!! Going back to 1966. The ideal thing would be to just start watching The Original Series, but you can concentrate on just the movies at first, if you want. If you're going to do that, I would suggest watching at least the episode "Space Seed" from 1966 Star Trek, because it's a prelude to Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan. The first movie, Star Trek The Motion Picture, is actually my favorite star trek movie, but I definitely don't speak for most fans on that, a lot of them hate the first one lol. But everybody agrees that 2-4 are excellent (highly recommend watching 2 and 3 the same day, because 2 is a major downer if you don't watch 3 immediately after), 5 is meh, and 6 is amazing. 🙂 The Star Trek I grew up with was Star Trek The Next Generation. When it came out, in fall (autumn) 1987, I was nine years old! And I saw every single episode the day it came out!! The movies after Star Trek 6 are based on The Next Generation. 🙂

You have a lot of options. You could go back to the original series. Watch it all or maybe just the top episodes. You could watch the original movies. General rule of thumb is that even numbered Trek movies are better than the odd numbers. You could skip the 1st movie, but I think a lot of new reactors like it more than fans did at the time of release. You could jump to Star Trek: The Next Generation, which is probably the most successful era of the show. It takes place with a new crew about a hundred years after Kirk and the original Enterprise flew their 5 year mission. What I personally think you should do is watch Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. It's a prequel series from when Pike was captain of the Enterprise. It's had 2 seasons so far and is really fun. I recommend first watching the 2 part story The Menagerie from the original series (1x12-1x13) to see the original cast in action and to fill in some blanks and will give you some vital knowledge about Captain Pike.

4:49 Not really. In the original TV series, Chekov was a devotee of "wodka", even proclaiming Mr Scott's beloved Scotch was invented "by a little old lady in Leningrad", now returned to its pre-Soviet name of St Petersburg. They turned Sulu gay to honor the original actor who plays him, who is gay. The original actor who plays him was disappointed by this, because Sulu is not supposed to be gay. He never played Sulu as gay because he isn't. I agree with him. Hollywood politics is a dumb bulldozer.

This is the only one of the three Kelvin movies I liked. I can clearly see JJ had little to nothing to do with it. The first 2 films felt more like "NCC 90210", as in the Enterprise crew were at each other's throats last time. THIS film FEELS like it COULD be a lost TOS era story.

Here's my take on these "new" trek movies, and some of you may agree, some of you may disagree. As far as Star Trek movies go.... I give them a 4 out of 10, because they are not in the spirit of what Rodenberry wanted. If you pretend they are not Star Trek but instead just some generic space sci-fi, then I'd give them 6 or 7 out of 10. And the last true Star Trek TV series was Enterprise!

I’m also sure that you’ve been made aware that the actor that played older Spock (Leonard Nimoy) also played him in the 1960’s TV Show and the movies from the 80’s and early 90’s. Nimoy had died in real life so they worked his death into this film as a tribute to him.
