The Yongcheng crying scene is heartbreaking. The kid really loved his mom, yet he found out he wasn't as important for her as the leader of her clan. That must have stung.

Tbh if consort Jia is the main character she can literally take down the emperor easily lol I would love to see the Yu clan take over the throne and see how the emperor got betrayed. She is actually very cunning but since shes just a villain, they made her suddenly became clumsy and incompetent 😅

Really, he was generous here. Yongcheng may never be considered as a part of the Imperial bloodline again, but his (former) father still gave him a dukedom. He would not cast the boy out as a commoner; he's giving him a chance to thrive, or fail, upon his own merits. That's more than many rulers would do in a similar situation. One odd bit of lore I've learned is that Jia would have to get rid of all her red nail polish; red polish was a color reserved only for royalty and nobility. She would be only allowed light pink as a commoner; for her to try and wear red polish after this would have literally been considered a crime. 💅
In this scene though, why wasn’t ling punished ? I mean she was the one to bring up emperor Kangxi’s sons …

Because she was agreeing with Ruyi’s lecture about how yes Jia has many sons and it’s admirable for jia because as concubine it’s her duty. However her sons are not the same model examples like Yongqi and the other sibling who the emperor favored as ideal models for his other sons to measure up to. Ling is saying she understands Ruyi’s caution to Jia.

Because 8th and 9th princes were removed from the royal lineage, and were criminals. They were renamed derogatory manchu slurs as a lesson to the royal family

I dont understand why the lucky numbers thing made everyone so mad.. and if it’s that obviously bad to say, why did jia not know it? Can anyone explain?

Because Jia compared her children's birth order to past or current emperors, it implied that her children might also have the potential to become emperors. In this situation, the emperor might suspect that Jia harbored ambitions of usurping the throne, leading him to fly into a rage. After losing her strategist, Jia's schemes became clumsy in the later stages. This excerpt from the play seems to indicate that she tried to show off and boast about her children, but instead lost her composure.

Jia is Korean. So occasionally she missteps something small because of it. Also, her best maid had been sent back, in disgrace. She kept Jia on track. Jia really seemed to get worse after that.
