By far the best discussion I've watched recently. Truly bitter truths. The 10 mins summarized the problems very well. Patriots have also become chest thumping, vain, clueless, lazy people - me included. We continue to live off the glory of our ancestors - who worked very hard, more than anything else. Today, we don't even understand the meaning of "Done." The top 1% is holding the bottom 99% down. These bitter truths are bitter pills we all need to take if we want to be net generators of anything.

By keeping him away from Narendra Modi, the so-called patriots have caused harm to India that they profess to love.

Having lived in China for a few years, I can certainly say that business capital and entrepreneurs are available in China very easily. The government actively promotes and tacitly supports Chinese entrepreneurs to invest and setup projects in collaboration with Foreigners. This provides them with knowhow, work ethics, systems and also lends softpower as these foreigners' success stories are given wide coverage. Awards and recognition ceremonies are abundant creating an air of achievement and success. Apart from political space, one feels China ecosystem works very closely with creators to setup and excel.

So spot on. Education has devolved, indian schools and colleges do more harm than good. Teaching has become a career for failed graduates, it is not even just the money but bureaucracy and hierarchy. Teachers spend a lot of time and effort in confusing the student and covering up their own complete incapablities. I would prefer to have gone to a teacherless university program.

I was invited to observe a private school in India. I won't go into details out of respect for the people involved in the project. I just found it amazing to learn that some of the teachers who teach in such environments don't even know the fundamentals of their particular subject matter and this aspect is widely acknowledged by the people running the school. They told me this happens in every school in the town (and this is a popular union territory mind you, not some remote village in India). Everyone knows this problem exists across India but they feel powerless because to attract good teachers to town-schools means you have to pay them a premium and that is not possible for modest schools in the country. So in this manner, the children are often taught wrong things. The education system in India is basically a hangover from the colonial times which is why our filtered history, our concept of governance, our laws, social sciences, "moral science" and grading system etc reflect the same outdated British factory model of education. Our children are basically brainwashed from a young age to think highly about British Generals and Viceroys and Aurangazebs of the world while they learn very little about ancient Indian kings, about ancient India's own contributions to metallurgy, mathematics, astronomy, philosophy etc... so children grow up with a heavy inferiority complex and are made to think everything 'good' comes from the West. These same children who are taught some poor fundamentals in a rigid school environment are asked to "innovate" as adults which is not possible. Innovation comes from opening the door to creativity and curiosity in a child - it comes from critical thinking and creative thinking which are both there naturally in children but is suppressed by the outdated school models we have in place. Unless the way we educate our children changes radically, India will snail along in a slow pace trying to catch up to a world that is moving far ahead into AI and beyond. Unfortunately our politicians and common-man are still playing games with castes and slogans whereas communist-authoritarian-harsh regimes like China don't have to deal with redtape and corrupt bureaucratic levers to impose basic policies and laws. Here in India, to even change one small policy you need to fight for 10 months with opposition parties and the media. Just see how much drama a simple "farm law reform" created in this country. That is why we don't progress - we are still trapped in our petty divisive games and our media is only interested in adding fuel to the fire to improve its own ratings - they are least interested in seeing the country grow. Ancient India was a hub of knowledge but modern India is a graveyard for the same. I appreciate what Rajiv and others are doing in their work to educate people but I am afraid many Indians don't even have a basic awareness of these deep problems - they are busy consuming Bollywood dramas.

We have a real shortage of top class visionaries, strategic and pragmatic thinkers, and leaders in many prominent fields, levels and technologies. We have many intelligent, clever and motivated individuals, but they are dispersed, fractured, lacking in certain product development skills, financial and economic skills (for example, how to generate value and capital), lacking a common platform to share their ideas a d work collaboratively, are risk averse due to the basic mindset, and thereby operating in silos and not collectively moving forward. A critical mass of confident tech leaders with risk taking appetite, who are ready to get their hands dirty in solving problems, and are capable of inspiring people is the need of the hour. We need Kalams, Dhawans, Bhabhas, Sarabhais, Swaminathans, in certain key scientific areas and we can achieve significant results.

I'm from one of the best private colleges in India. The IT education there sucked for the most part. A few professors were good, but they were the exception. My Cryptography professor made us memorize encryption algorithms rather than teach us why they were good, and how to make our own. This is just one example out of many.

Those TV program have uplifted the whole society by shifting the perceived mindset around innovation from threat to progress. These days people are taking great interest in Culinary art because of life style channels and food video bloggers. Similarly, People are taking interest in Dance, Aerobics and Yoga. Unfortunately, India don't have quality indigenous egalitarian Discovery, Geo & Science channels. I prefer not to compete with China in areas where they are naturally and physically better. Large scale manufacturing, I prefer to leave it up to China and India focus on other areas. I see a huge scope for "entertainment/hospitality" industry in future. Indians could do a better job here.

I know my comment won't get a like but I will once again state facts. India is in league of super power now. Few examples I will share in all areas of technology that the guest pointed out. There are many many examples but I will only state a few. Materials : last year's test of drdos hypersonic missile is a shinning example. I believe india thanks to drdo is now leading the world in hypersonic technology. The successful test of drdo hyoersonic vehicle required very powerful computing capabilities to test very complex algorithms that works in hypersonic flight. Plus development of all the new complex electronics, guidance, navigation and control systems. Because electronics, guidance navigation and control system that works with super sonic missiles would fail to work in a hypersonic vehicle. All flight control laws and algorithms that work at supersonic speed which themselves are complex won't work in a hypersonic flight regime. For a hypersonic vehicle to cruise you require a scram jet engine. Some wrong facts here. Indians are doing high-end work also. IBM's India team also is doing high-end work. It is wrong stereo-type that US based Indians are doing high-end and Indian people are doing only low end. IBM setting separate entity for AI and Cloud. India will have big center. But even high-end work is done for foreign roadmap. So, Vishwa-coolie is correct word, even for high-end work.
