My paternal grandfather used to work in TELCO when it's trucks were known as Tata Mercedes Benz trucks. He was sent to Mercedes-Benz training center in Stuttgart, Germany advanced training in 1960. I heard stories from him about the most unusual vehicle from Mercedes-Benz at that time - Unimog. Currently, Mercedes-Benz categorize it as truck, but at those times it was neither a car, nor a truck.
@SrijitSen12 жыл бұрын
@Greenleaf Cinematic Today it has evolved into one, in fact Daimler Benz categorizes as light special duty truck. Back then, what I heard from my grandfather that it was a replacement for tractors that can also do duties of light trucks. Add to that, it has a compressor attached with it's engine. Coupled with ability to attach various fitments it is extremely versatile. He actually showed me a photograph of Unimogs being tested in a testing ground and another where one is used to dig ground using it's compressor.

Once upon a time TATA's Pimpri plant was One of the biggest R&D (ERC) center in Asia. Before the retirement of Ratan Tata sir as a chairman the ERC department gifted him a tank (Only employees were knowing this). Before launch of any TATA's cars, buses or trucks they are been roughly tested for about 1 to 3 years that's why in top 5 safest car 3 are of TATAs.

Interesting that TATA has a JV with a maker from an RHT (Right-Hand Traffic) country (i.e. Daewoo from #Korea). IMO it would be best if TATA and other automakers in #India influence #India, #Pakistan, #Thailand and other LHT (Left-Hand Traffic) continental countries to switch to RHT for standardizing driving across every land border with the least amount of time and resources to achieve standard. This could include donating buses that are RHT-compatible, volunteer to retrofit existing RHD (Right-Hand Drive) buses to be RHT-compatible, influencing governments to no longer legalize sales of new RHD vehicles but legalize sales of new LHD (Left-Hand Drive) vehicles, volunteer to fund new RHT-compatible road signs, etc.

Let’s not forget that in the Indian landscape, there’s another highly reputed giant - Ashok Leyland. They too have grown impressively and have a very good reputation for performance and reliability. TVS is their authorised service partner too, so all Indian brands on solid ground.
