The fun part about the Amy Carlson story is that the cult didn't dissolve over her death. They've had a schism since then and have now split into at least two different cults. That story isn't over just yet.

Eyes are the first thing to decompose [that is visible to the naked eye]*. I own a trade embalming service in Colorado. Her eyes decayed and shriveled. I have to add tissue builder to people's eyes if they've been down for a while due to the climate up here being so dry. Edited to add some more info: There are 2 routes for decomposing - 1. Decay = comes from 'aerobic' bacteria or being exposed to oxygen. 2. Putrefaction = comes from 'anaerobic' bacteria or by not being exposed to oxygen so it's coming from within the body itself, it can be caused by many factors. The 1st option makes you a mummy & is the most common form of decomposition. The 2nd option makes you bloat, swell & turn to liquid. Sometimes bodies can get to double the size they were at the time of passing

Interesting. I always thought most bodies went through putrefaction unless the environment was extremely cold or dry. I feel like most of the time a body is left in a house it putrefies to some extent. So it’s either decay or putrefaction? Or does both usually happen?

When people get hypothermia, a common side effect is their body starts feeling very hot. This often leads to people stripping off their clothes in what’s called paradoxical undressing. That’s what most likely happened to Josh and explains his lack of clothes. They can also go through a process called Terminal Burrowing, where they try to warm themselves by hiding in enclosed spaces, explaining his body ending up in the chimney.
@smackattack97
@smackattack97 3 ай бұрын
I'm fine with occam's razor-ing this case with this explanation, but I still think it's not a good one. I would think all humans in this situation experiencing hypothermia, while they may in fact take their clothes off, they would start with anything on the upperbody. The lowerbody clothes coming first is kinda strange to me. But I could steelman that theory by Josh's reasoning may have been to keep the shirt on as he anticipated going down the chimney backside first, thus wanting some layer of protection against abrasions/soot. Strange either way you cut it and I honestly lean towards foul play regardless.

I always hear people attributing this to paradoxical undressing. But in reading about it, I read in numerous sources that the phenomena has (apparently) never actually been witnessed by anyone. It's just theoretical. You would think someone would have seen it happen by now. Either in war, or during some really unethical experiments they did with freezing, or with people who survived wilderness situations.
@jmgajda8071
@jmgajda8071 3 ай бұрын
@@smackattack97 Also, were he, in fact, paradoxically undressing, I don't think he would have neatly folded his clothes. That doesn't seem logical to me. I do think someone else was involved and it's pretty obvious how. Gonna leave my own comment about it but I'm somewhat shocked that LE hasn't even considered this.
@Middle-AgedWhiteGuy
@Middle-AgedWhiteGuy 3 ай бұрын
But do they burrow feet first up a chimney? It is weird. I've heard of this case before, and I really don't think paradoxical undressing is a good answer. Occam's razor would say that he went down the chimney trying to break in, but then why would his clothing be folded and not directly under the opening to the chimney. Unless somebody else went in there and saw the clothes and folded them, not knowing that he was in the chimney. It's a very weird set of circumstances. Which means the circumstances that led to it, must be weirder still. I always thought that he tried going down the chimney, and found it too difficult, and couldn't get back out. Possibly tried to wriggle out of his pants, which would have been the only thing he could get off, and then somehow turned himself around and passed from compressional asphyxiation

A few things about love has won; The cops did know that there was a body and that it was not a homicide. Their reaction is odd but my guess is the absurdity of it is what got to them. They had decorated her body, wrapped it in lights, and had her hooked up to a few gadgets thinking they could tell when her spirit came back in her body. I imagine it looked ridiculous honestly. Also the way they made their silver supplement was apparently to "cook" silver wire in water with a battery and alligator clamps. Its pretty common in the nutty health communities. @kingamity1985 I agree. I saw another channel's video on this same case a couple of years ago and they came to the conclusion that he got hypothermia and then they went into other cases and showed examples where people have done similar things when stricken with hypothermia. They kind of go mad. They feel extremely hot and disrobe, even tho they're freezing. They'll try to crawl into tight spaces. People literally lose their minds. In the Daytlov Pass incident hypothermia is the cause of their death. Some think their bizarre behavior before their death, as well as the bizarre scene the rescuers found, were a result of the effects of hypothermia.

Not too weird that the clothes would be removed. If he was experiencing hypothermia, there's a point where the body gets too tired to constrict blood vessels and they relax. The Josh story just made me think of something. When I was in my teens I was at a friends house with 2 other friends (and the one whose house it was). Two guys, two girls. The two guys were running in and out of the house and the friend whose house it was locked the other guy outside after stealing his shirt. The guy outside found an open window and clambered in. He didn't want to be outside the house banging on all the doors and windows while half dressed. I guess what I'm getting at is if the house had been used as a hangout spot and Josh was lured there to be pranked or bullied, Josh may have tried to get inside the house to get his clothes and only saw the chimney as a way to get inside. The person or people who pranked/bullied may have not wanted to get caught when Josh got lodged in the chimney and tried to hide their crime with the breakfast bar before running away. Just a thought.

According to the owner of the cabin the chimney had a rebar grate fixed to the opening on the outside which was still there when they did the demolition. They do this to keep raccoons and other critters out when nobodies there. And if there was an updraft through the chimney its possible nobody would smell the decomposition. He had to get in it from the inside. It's definitely a weird case. Generally weird cases like this turn out to be due to people doing something weird and unexpected. He could have had a psychological problem he'd been hiding, something that produces hallucinations and delusions. Or possibly drug induced psychosis. Or another person doing something to him that was weird and unexpected for whatever reason. It's a terrible story regardless. Poor kid. People don't always act rationally, even when their own life depends on it. KZbin has thousands of examples of people doing irrational things that got them killed. I'm not victim blaming, nobody deserves to die for a stupid innocent mistake. But reality generally does not care what people think we deserve.

Ok, what Amy Carlson did was awful, but her followers were just as bad. The fact that she begged to be taken to the hospital and they refused, makes you wonder if they did it as a form of revenge, because I honestly refuse to believe that they were so brain washed in order to refuse medical care for her. That woman needed medical help for her mental problems, not a cult...

The accident theory doesn't work. His clothes were folded neatly inside the cabin. A cabinet was pushed in front to block the chimney from the INSIDE. Why would the theory of someone going into a chimney to get in somewhere fit here when people were clearly already inside the cabin? Also it's possible that top grate was taken off and reattached by the same person who moved the cabinet to block the fireplace and folded his clothes neatly.. There's too much to this one to say it's just like the other chimney deaths... Come on..

Maybe Josh sat on the chimney and the mesh covering gave In so he fell in and was kind of in a folded position. Then ran out of breath,maybe his body dropped a bit as his body lost muscle mass as it began to mummify that drop could have then caused his body to slowly collapse into the fetal position given the lengthy amount of time it took for him to be discovered ... Just my thoughts tho

Feel bad for the kid and his family from the last story. It's bizarre how they found him, and you definitely don't end up like that on your own without something going horribly wrong. Only reasonable explanation *I* can think of is he was having a "good time" with someone and maybe got caught by someone else with his pants down (figuratively and literally). Maybe like a fight happens and he gets knocked out and pushed into the chimney to hide him? Or maybe he just had a really bad trip and ended up taking a dive? A mystery...
