Great video Bjarne. Sounds like they're using a grapple yarder to move the logs out. There are some big sticks in there to cut! It makes it fun for sure. Be good and stay safe 👍

Just today I dropped a big (for our area) Ponderosa Pine that was right at 52" across the stump and had to swing it slightly to lay it where it wouldn't get all broke up and our son who was running the Tractor with the winch and grapplers on it today hollers at me that we shoulda recorded it to show you ! So you see we all think of you and hope your doing ok. And as always should you ever want to bring your wife to see Mt.Rushmore on vacation all you need do is give us a shout and we will roll out the green carpet for you both. Again Happy Holidays to both of you.

Great videos as always Bjarne. I love watching these videos. I help my son with cutting down trees. He won't touch the 2 Ash on my property, dead needing to be felled. Dangerous trees. I have a question. Those Cedars and Hemlocks are massive. How tall are you, next to those trees, just to get an idea. I just can't imagine bringing those down, and your loving it. Best, hardest job ever.!!! Stay safe.

@@BjarneButler we did Colombia helicopters ran a real great camp cook's we're from Louisiana Cajun we ate like kings the timber was ok not as big and tall as Oregon coast but we were busheling and we made great money I been falling timber for 18 years now and I like watching cutting videos seeing others skills you my friend are top notch a professional but as you know your only good as your last tree be safe

Recently, I was slashing alder and notice my new Stihl losing power until it would not throttle up. Later, pulled out the spark arrestor and it was blocked. Those Stihls want to run full throttle.

What are the flaps you wear on the back of your hardhats? Don't see them down here in the states and if like to try one in the winter time

It’s just a neck flap that comes with the helmet. But I have sewn a piece used rain gear onto it to stiffen it up. The stock ones are too flimsy and the underside still gets wet and it crumples in the back on my neck a lot, reducing its effectiveness

Sure would hate to limb and buck that mess. Lots of hard work in that old growth,even without the snags. Old growth cedar was my least favorite to fall and buck.

Have you ever thought to take an old wedge and make a fixture for your camera, put a little cut in something, tap the wedge in, clamp the camera on and voila. Great video, per the usual. 👍

they will either pile it up and do a control,ed slash burn or burns and try to remove as much as possible. or they will chip it if possible just depends on location of the block and access to it.

They're at the end of their lifespan and in order to plant a new forest, the old has to be removed. I'm not saying I agree with the practice, but I think there's a case to be made in favor. Because even governments realize the value of those trees (both as potential lumber and as standing monoliths), the practice of old growth logging is very tightly controlled. And being as a lot of the old growth resides on native lands, those tribes and clans have to "OK" any logging before it goes ahead. . Again, not saying I'm cheering old growth logging on, but it benefits the local communities and provides jobs. And if its okay with the people who view that land as sacred, who am I to say otherwise?

On the coast here in Southwest WA there isn't much old growth left. It's sure nice to visit the few remaining patches. However, responsible logging serves a purpose.
