In some Volvos at least the XC90 the radar is put next to the front camera behind the windshield. Genius move i think since it’s always clean even during the worst weather so the adaptive cruise control always work. All vehicle manufacturers should do this!

There is a separate wiper service position enabled by, turning car on then immediately off, and then on again while pressing the wiper stalk down. The winter park position is most effective with heated windscreen which is on most I-Pace's sold in Norway. Else preheating for half an hour also melts everything.

I don‘t think Radar csn be under the windshield, I think rain/light sensors and cameras are behind there. I don‘t know if Volvo has a camera based distance control or just a good spot that not clog up while snowing...

@@laser_simon922 Yes it actually can. Volvo mentions that the radar is placed behind the windshield with the camera to prevent damage to the radar when a minor fender bender occurs since it would be very expensive to repair and to make sure the ADAS system works in the winter. Additionally, you can see that the camera and the radar are integrated in 1 single unit when dissembling the rear view mirror unit.

@@laser_simon922 The new XC40 Recharge and Polestar 2 are using an updated version of Volvo's ADAS system which now uses a heated radar in the grill. SPA built cars still use the radar and camera windshield integration. Maybe the glass created some sorts of limitations for the radar and so Volvo decided to change its position to a more conventional style to have better accuracy from it.

That "wipers up" is a nice feature. If something is stuck in cold weather, it's the wipers down on the edge of the windshield. I wonder if car manufacturers ever come up with a solution that improves the cameras not getting dirty. I have tried many car cleaning products that leave water-repelling coating, it helps a bit, but results are still nowhere near perfect. Maybe some sort of "ultrasonic shell" in front of the camera would keep the dirt away.

I have one of the newer ipace with Pivi Pro and I’m very disappointed with the buggyness of it all, Jaguar has done a terrible job with Quality Assirance. Like Bjorn the preconditioning doesn’t work when activated in car or from the app. The car has stopped charging with tout reason on public fast chargers. The adaptive cruise control has crashed before (not because of snow) and needed to car to be parked for 30 minutes. Worst of all Jaguar silently removed the lane centring function on MY21 without notice, and it was available before. I’ve tried the fast charging and it peaks at around 110kw before dropping rapidly. For 10-80% charge I’ve typically experienced around 60-70kw average; a terrible performance compared to Tesla or E-tron. I’m very very disappointed with mine

@lastlondon
@lastlondon 3 жыл бұрын
@@Scrap-press these new cars are supposed to have OTA updates for infotainment and various other modules. Mine hadn’t been updated since I took delivery a month ago. But if Jaguar was willing to let something this bad out of the factory then I am under no illusion they’ll suddenly become very focused on fixing everything. There are numerous other bugs with the car that I won’t enumerate here but I think it goes to show that Jaguar just didn’t give this any attention. I’m so disappointed with mine that I’ve already emailed the dealership to ask how much it would cost me to step out of the lease only a month or so into a 3 year plan. Something for me to decide upon in the first week after new year. This is my first Jaguar coming from German models and it’s left such a bad taste in my mouth about Jaguar that the dealership’s potential offer to replace with another car from JLR lineup will probably not be of interest to me. I’d rather at this point cut my losses with a £10k penalty rather than go on. And this is such a shame because the car is so beautiful, so comfortable, so well road mannered but these software, driving aids, and charging issues are deal breakers.

Hi Bjorn ! The Preconditioning is probably based on interior temperature sensor; when you were inside the vehicle it was warm enough, but when you exit the vehicle and open the door, temperature changed and the sensor "felt" the colder temperature and enabled the Preconditioning... Tesla already has that wiper positioning. It's called service mode and is used when the wipers need to be replaced. But when you are parked outside and expecting snow or freezing rain you can use this feature to make sure that the wipers will not be frozen at the bottom of the windshield. It also allows you to place the wipers in any position you wish. The wipers always remain parallel to each other.

11:37 Come on Bjorn! wipers on Tesla are heated - at least for MS and MX... Too long you spent with M3/MY less premium options/comfort then MS/MX (especially the latter with automatic doors,seats,space,driving position and view, etc...)
@bjornnyland
@bjornnyland 3 жыл бұрын
Come on, Franck! You must be new in this channel. Don't forget to subscribe. I have owned Model S and X before and I know about the heated wipers. The problem is that they make things worse by first melting the snow and then it freezes. And it's not the same feature as this one because the heated wipers must be activated and it stays on for a while until it shuts off by itself. The feature in I-Pace is turned on once and every time you park the wipers will raise automatically preventing freezing and melting any existing ice and snow on it as long as HVAC is on. Once you drive in a country with snow, you will understand how tings work.
