Today I charged a 2019 I-PACE with all software upgrades current as of March 2021, and at 72% it was pulling 63kW, which is almost 30% faster than what Bjørn got when he filmed this video. At 80% it was pulling 53kW. It took 44 minutes to charge from 13% to 80%. This was on a 150kW Electrify America CCS 1 charger built by Signet, model HDP350K-NCM2 with a manufacturing date of Jan 5, 2020. Ambient temperature outside was 65F/18C.

Michael, I got the latest updates from Jaguar last week. And now it charges even faster. I was even charging at +100kW at 60%, and around 80kW at 73%…

Bjorn, I just got the latest update from jaguar last week. My charging has improved massive. I charged 57kwh at 37 minutes. From 10 to 80 % is now done at an average speed of 95 kWh…

In my region, there is only one 50kW charger, so it doesn't matter if it can charge faster :-D

Faster, but definitely slower and overall more conservative charge. That voltage at higher soc is definitely lower on the new one, but that battery can be pushed further. Any guesses??

I was chatting to an iPace owner just last night who said that when he takes his son to boarding school he stops and charges the car to 100% on the way to make sure he can get to a charger once he’s dropped his kid off at school.

The old one charged 68 kWh to 90% of which 1 kWh was before 10%. That makes 67 kWh of charge from 10-90%. The new one was 75 kWh. How can you explain this big difference Bjorn? Initial buffer was 2 kWh. So still 3 kWh of other difference. Perhaps the old one was from before the I-pace received a range update?

its a bit wrong to think X time to Z percent, unless comparing a car to another one with identical range. Because you must remember that car A and car B will go different range on Z percent. In addition to this, what is %? Well, different cars also have different battery sizes. So to make an example: MOdel 3 LR/P can on supercharger V3 charge in about 300 km "real driving" on 12-15 minutes. This is not 80%, its much less. But on the other hand you have cars that do 300 km "real driving" while charged at 100%. So while the Model 3 charges faster, it also goes much longer per charge than competitors with larger batteries. SO this means you really have to compare: How long does it take to add xxx Km real driving range or: how much real driving range is added after 30 minutes? And when I say real driving range, then I mean measured in a proper way. For instance Porsche Taycan after 30 minutes, at summertime added 372 km. Model 3 (before refresh with longer range), at summertime added 386 km on supercharger V2 or 456 km real range on supercharger v3. These numbers are from this: www.naf.no/elbil/aktuelt/elbiltest/ladetest-sommer-2020/

EV owner since 2014 - all non-teslas - I have always charged to 100% each evening. I paid for a certain range to be available and should have that each day - anything else is idiotic at these prices. I have done the same with my '20 I-Pace, never experienced any range loss then or now.

What I see in this video is that the new one keeps the voltage lower, even at slightly higher current (so lower internal resistance of the cells?). Is it the same cell-layout still? According to Wikipedia the i-Pace has 432 cells. I guess it's a 4p108s layout which should result in a charge end voltage of 442,8V (4,1V per cell) to maybe 448,2V (4,15V per cell). @Bjørn, did you record the very ending of that charge session?

If you use the hazard light trick on the older models (turn them on before you hook up to the charger) , it will charge on 102 kw peak up to 36% SoC as the new model... then the old model will be even faster 😎

In order to be able to charge faster you say that you have to warm the battery. How do you heat the battery? By driving full throttle? What is the usual temperature range that the battery should be in order to charge quicker? Thanks in advance for your support Bjor. Best regards!
