I just measured consumption at low temp (ok, lowish from your POV, around -5 °C) at my wall charger for a 12 km commute and a 50km commute with 2 heating cycles (start at -5 with preheating, drive 12/50km, park for 6-8h, preheat and drive 12/50km again) with my MYP. For the 12km commute, the Tesla showed 240Wh/km in the car, but it actually took a total of 11 kWh from the wall charger to bring the SOC back up to the starting percentage, so it effectively used 440 Wh/100km. For the 50km the numbers were 260 Wh/km in the car (part highway) and 300 Wh/km at the wall charger. Maybe you should add something like this to your test procedures and at least compare the numbers you get from the cars with the numbers you get from the chargers for the whole trip or some of the segments... the Tesla in-car numbers feel like cheating, would be interesting to see how the charger vs. car numbers compare for different brands.

Apparently software update R11 improves the “Toyota Driver” feature to mean less slowdown on curves. Worth seeing if that update could be applied and retest perhaps. Imagine a car which could receive updates over the air 🧐🤓

The battery may be able to recieve the high charging speeds at low temperatures but how good is it for longevity of the battery? (if the temperature reading is correct). I think this is a thing to consider for the future. Car manufacturers may optimize for short term tests or the performance when the car is new to get good reviews and experience of new-buyers, but how great will the car be in 5-6-10 years from now? I have to little knowledge to answer, but it is bugging me that one does not know how the internal discussions at car companies are in regards to short term and long term performance. One manufacturer may think that charging at low temperatures are so rare that it is no problem to cheate a bit. Others may have other opinions.

Hey Bjorn. I was just going to ask if it's still slowing down. That's mean they didn't update soft in this one. Mine had it updated a few weeks ago and doesn't slow down anymore. Plus they have changed something in the Aircon setting as 22° is comfortable for me now, while I had to set it to 24-25° before. It's way better now 👍🏼

8:15 any battery can take that kind of speeds, but they limit it, to extend life of battery. Would be interesting to see how is degradation in older MG4s ...
@riccardodanesin453110 ай бұрын
absolutely no. mg4 is limited because surely can go over, in particular in summer. bms mantain a safe value for battery life. surely it can take 170 or over at 10% but it's limited at 141 that is over what mg say 135.

I just want to share my rough thoughts about the increasing air resistance when it is getting colder. Coming from p*V=m*R*T (you can use V and m relative to time as well). Assuming same ambient pressure, same car and speed therefore same volume stream. R is also constant. 20^C=293K, -12^C=261K, -24^C=249K. 293/261=112% 261/249=105% We could take roughly 12% higher energy consumption @-12^C from air resistance and additional 5% @-24^C. Any other thoughts?

Looking at these numbers I can't really complain about my Leaf 40kWh. My available capacity is 34kWh and my consumption at 90km/h and -9° Celcius is 16kWh/100km.
@bjornbieber940310 ай бұрын
I test drove an MG4 when the lease on my previous Leaf was nearing its end and I was SHOCKED by the consumption. I tested the 50 kWh LFP version on a long trip and got 29 kWh/100km while my Leaf never used more than 22 on that trip, even in worse and colder weather. Then at the rapid charger I only got around 40 kW charging power after one hour of driving, with battery heating at the end, at outside temperatures around 5 degrees. On the previous day, when it was warmer, power derating started at > 30% SOC while driving on the autobahn, and at 15% it had so little power I could not maintain 80 km/h on a slight incline. I reckoned that even the 40 kWh Leaf would be better all round.

@@bjornbieber9403 I had high hopes for the MG4. My local Nissan dealership sells them. I see them very often here in Germany. I'll stick to my Leaf for now. It's a joy to drive in winter. The cabin preheating works a treat.

It disappoints me to see how much the chinese “lie”. The break caliper cover to make it look bigger, the 25 degrees setting to correspond to 21, the mg autopilot that’s road-ready but life endangering, the consumption numbers that only go to max 29,8 kw on the screen… Westerners are used to having a lot more honest and straightforward instruments. I still cringe when I see cars unable to accurately tell me their current speed and have to rely on gps to tell me when 130 is 130 and not 127

To be honest I’m getting tired of screens being the focal point in cars today, I want analogue dials, buttons and knobs. It’s too distracting all this screens and then trying to adjust temp and fan and then trying to change radio stations all while on the move. In fact it’s a major turn off for me now so much that I won’t buy another car that is so heavily focused on screens.

Bjørn, your frequent use of "sheeeeyit" sounds like you're imitating an American Black man. It sometimes even sounds mocking, and it does not sound cool. Otherwise, I admire your command of American English and slang. Oh, "Holy macaroni!" exists here only as "Holy mackerel!", a euphemism for "Holy Moses!".
