great video again MrKev, some informations i'd like to add and thought of while listening: - heracross is a pretty good sleep talker right now, typing allows it to check loom and guts+the nature of the pokemon makes it a good one at that - when hariyama came to light, one of its popular move was hpflying as a check to heracross in milotic sands - machamp speed stat ought to be highlighted more, it's really what separates it from hariyama, one great niche that's being exploited right now is that its terrific when paired with agipass zapdos, outspeeding the fastest pkmns in the tier at +2, something hari can't do

I really like how distinct each fully evolved fighting type mon is in gens 3-4. The various speed tiers they all have, the unique defenses of guys like Hariyama and poliwrath, the unique offensive potential of something like Blaziken, the utility of Breloom's spore; Hitmonlee, Primeape, and Heracross's different reactions to various forms of status ailments. Then gen 4 has the faster guys that can attack well from both sides like Luc and Ape. It's really neat to me.

You're right about fighting types in the recent game, I like using machamp under trick room with king's rock and rock slide or dynamic punch. No guard is useful like that, but it's also a double edged sword in that my opponent can't miss machamp either.
@intelhell17123 жыл бұрын
Extremely late, but why run rock slide when you can run stone edge. Sure, rock slide has the 30% flinch rather than the 10% that stone edge has when holding a king’s rock but it has 25 more base power and a high crit chance.

i though they also ignored stat reduction in later gens?
@EvilApple5674 жыл бұрын
@@patrickstar8132 They ignore reductions in all gens except for some fringe situations such as in gen 2, where if the attacker's attacking stat is reduced, but not to the same stage as the target's defending stat (e.g. Attack -1 vs Defense -2), then the critical hit doesn't ignore the attacker's stat reduction. I'm sure there's some similar quirks w/ how radically different they operate in Gen 1 (such as ignoring positive stat changes as well and being based on base speed), but saying something is probably strange/bugged in Gen 1 is basically a given.
@GIR1772 жыл бұрын
No, Cross Chop's crit rate is 12.5% in Gen 3. High-crit ratio moves get a two stage crit boost in Gen 2 (25%), and only one stage in every other generation.

Do people run HP rock over rock slide in ADV? You lose the flinch chance, but get 100% accuracy w the same base power
@BKCplaysPokemon4 жыл бұрын
it's 5 bp weaker and means you can't run another hidden power so no
@HenryZhoupokemon4 жыл бұрын
@@BKCplaysPokemon yeah mb for whatever reason I thought rock slide was 70 BP. What’s interesting tho is that I think Joey used SD sub megahorn hp rock in the ADV cup of Smogon Classic 2. Has the meta changed, or was it a questionable pick to use HP rock even back then?
@despicableone44954 жыл бұрын
@@HenryZhoupokemon The perfect accuracy is a little more desirable for a Pokemon like Heracross that can outright sweep through the opposing team under the right circumstances, making it much more justifiable in that capacity. There are even some who have gone as far as using HP Rock Dragon Dance Tyranitar because their team's strategy is so committed to the late-game sweep that there's no sense blowing it on a potential Rock Slide miss. In Tyranitar's case foregoing Rock Slide is a lot more dubious since a single flinch against Pokemon such as Skarmory and Milotic or even repeated flinches against Swampert can turn the tides completely, and unlike Heracross it can withstand even most STAB super-effective moves giving it the freedom to gamble for a flinch or two should the need arise
@pasy_g4 жыл бұрын
while you just lose "a little bit of damage" you might miss out on important rolls, not 2hkoing max hp zapdos, not 2hkoing salamence, which is a big deal since when you hit you create a lot more pressure, since salamence cant switch into another rockslide while it can easily switch into another hp rock.

Feel like you’d probably want HP ghost on such a set to hit Gengar on a switch, it’ll be somewhat effective due to surprise factor but probably not noticeably more effective than the standard set, especially since people will notice it not getting leftovers recovery and thus know its either banded or a berry set
