Whenever Toni is filming in Toronto she frequents the cafe I manage. She’s lovely but it’s super intimidating to serve her because of the reasons outlined in this video. The last time I served her was just over two months ago and I made her avocado toast and she asked if she could have more salt. I told that story to everyone I know that day.

Meeting celebs is so weird. I catered at the Kennedy Center Honors and was a waitress at Glenn Close's table. She was drunk AF, yelling and ranting about something (Meryl Streep was being honored that night...I'm guessing that may have had something to do with it). We have to clear plates all at the same time, and when I asked to take her plate, she gave me this death stare that she uses in her films, which made me take a gander that playing Cruella and unhinged, cruel women is not that big of a stretch for her. The funny part was that her husband at the time was fully ASLEEP right next to her, as though this meltdown she was having was any old Tuesday. I'm not sorry that she doesn't have an Oscar lol. She threw her dirty cutlery at me and luckily it didn't hit my face, but she got sauce o my face and in my hair when the cutlery bounced off the plates and then hit the floor. I could never treat someone like that.

@haute03
@haute03 4 жыл бұрын
I know this channel talks a lot about Oscarology, which is why I'm still kind of surprised when I read comments like this one. Who gets a nom or wins an Oscar has very little to do with an actor's performance and everything to do with a dozen other trivial factors, primarily who's in that actor's corner and how they campaign. I wouldn't put so much stock in that system. Oscars pretty much go to the highest bidder at this point.

She was brilliant in "About a Boy". I love that she doesn't try to look beautiful all the time. She looks real. When her character cries, there's none of that delicate tear running down an otherwise flawless cheek nonsense. Toni's performance in The Sixth Sense is criminally underrated when discussing that film. In a lesser actress's hands, the mother could have read as smothering or even cruel. But Toni hits the perfect balance of love, fear and frustration. And of course Hereditary was a tour de force. Truly one of the top actresses working today.

Little Miss Sunshine. It's her best role. She nails it down as an optimistic Mother trying to hold her family together during tough times. I’m late but there’s a scene early on that’s a complete ensemble where they’re fighting about going to California and she stomps off to the kitchen to get everyone popsicles. She has one line but steals the scene. It’s glorious.

Thank you so much for putting a spotlight on an incredibly underrated actress. I recently rewatched Muriels Wedding, the amount of pathos and humilty and just genuine humanity she brought that character and being a breakout role, is nothing short of incredible. She is an actress that repeats the same feat time and again.

I absolutely fell in love with her in Velvet Goldmine. It was the perfect part for her, she displays an age range of 20 years, her character has a flexible accent which changes with her circumstances and sometimes mood, she says one thing and means another. No one could have done that like her.

I fell in love with Toni when I first encountered her in the 6th Sense and it still amazes me that she has not won an academy award. I think United States of Tara sort of went off the rails in the third season but she was amazing in every single moment she was onscreen. All you need to know about the Oscars is that Emma Stone and Renee Zellweger were won for best actress while singing and dancing which neither of them could do and Toni Collette was only nominated once. The Oscars is a popularity contest and marketing opportunity. Good actors just want to work and inhabit different characters, and TC definitely does that! Love her!

This is such a good video. Thank you. I didn't know who Toni Collette was until Dan on SJU/Fandom Entertainment started saying "An Oscar for Toni" around the time Hereditary came out. Then I saw Knives Out and thought "Oh that's Toni Collette." THEN I watched Hereditary and was completely blown away by her performance. I saw her in Emma a few weeks ago, and I actually watched The Way Way Back last night and was completely surprised that she was in it. And I didn't know she was in Little Miss Sunshine (a movie that's been on my need-to-watch list for a while) until this video.
