The grey area is where Black Adam falls under. He blurs the line between Antihero and Hero where he makes his own set of rules that he enforces upon his enemies. He wants to be his own leader and like everyone says doesn't bow to anyone.

One of the benefits of the new 52 is that it erased the genocide that he committed in the World War III event after the 52 series. He killed an entire nation of innocent people, not just the guilty parties that killed his family, to fulfill his wife's dying wish of vengeance. It's very difficult to redeem an antagonist with that much blood on his hands, especially something so tragic and recent. And I noticed also that they didn't go completely into his origin with this film that Jeff Johns and Gary Frank established. Maybe they felt the exact same way that you cannot have someone do something so horrific and then sell him as an antihero.
