Black Adam getting his own movie makes sense if he's supposed to make repeat appearances. Although he is a villain he does care for his people(recently) he's simply ruthless in doing so and does not allow threats to his rule. The liberation storyline perfectly sets this up, having heroes show up and try to stop him from killing the people occupying the place is also good. But why waste Dr.Fate here. The final battle being the heroes trying to beat him and then ultimately dying painting the picture in the peoples minds that he not only cleaned up those occupying their country AND managed to kill people who in their eyes were trying protect the people who were trying to oppress both him and them. This sets him up as a possible enemy to the heroes but ALSO a potential hero should the situation fit for it. For example he can end up going to a city to kill a group of weapon's manufactures that are supplying weapons to terrorists attacking his people. The city they are in happens to be where Shazam is. Black adam is ruthlessly killing everyone who works for the weapon manufacturer to make sure they can't supply any more weapons and Shazam fights him to try and convince him that some of the people there aren't responsible. Of course this is just me spitballing but yeah putting b maybe c list heroes to try and stop Black Adam for him to kill (make them a bit likable please) would cement him as a threat and bad guy. Maybe have one B list hero there that manages to escape but is severely wounded.

It's a shame about Sabbac. He's the true victim of this movie. In the comics, Ishmael Gregor was a Russian gangster who had been killing people since he was a teenager. Basically just evil born, but the difference is he found himself checked at every turn by either the authorities or his own mob superiors, which is why he turned to the occult and ultimately usurped the mantle of Sabbac from his predecessor, Timothy Karnes, who was actually at one point Freddy Freeman's (Captain Marvel Jr) foster brother who himself became CMJ's arch nemesis after he grew to resent the fact that when they were separated, Freddy just got a way better life than him, Karnes being subjected ro the abuse of his guardians, iirc. One thing I wished Black Adam delved into was his relationship with Hawkman and Dr. Fate. In the comics, Adam was the advisor and ally to Khufu (the original Hawkman) alongside Nabu (Original Dr. Fate) before his turn to villainy. It would've been a great opportunity for Worldbuilding and a cool chance to see Adam seeing the return of his former allies. It would also tie into why Hawkman is so antagonistic, as he possesses the memories of his past lives, and would explain why he doesn't trust Adam. Likewise, Dr. Fate who saw the best parts of Adam, believes he redeem himself. But in the film, we see the characters, and they're reduced to flying punching bags to make the Rock look cool.

It isn't Snyder's fault... it was WB/DC meddling. Zack had a clear, ten year plan... which would then be open for an easy "reset" (reboot) by way of a Flashpoint film. Just because a few high profile critics (as if they know shit about shit to begin with) decided to shit on a screening of an early, unfinished BvS, WB/DC panicked (as they do) and started gutting the movie. However, I'm not sure if it will save the DCEU or would make the Shazam or Black Adam movies a success. I appreciate the Rock trying to revitalize the DCEU with Superman though.

The Rock was not the right guy to shepherd the DCEU. Based on his interview with Kevin Hart, he only really cares about the marketability of his movies and not the storytelling. When you want to create a cinematic universe but you care more about marketability than storytelling, you’re doomed to fail.

I don't understand how he skips his arch nemesis Shazam and goes straight to Superman, lol. Adam is not a Superman villain.
@lilylovesanime17 Жыл бұрын
It's just, in the comics when black Adam joined the jsa for a while, it was after he has been captain marvel arch nemisis for years. It would've made sense to introduce black Adam as a villain in the Shazam sequel and then introduce him being reformed by a jsa in a later movie, preferably after the jsa had already been established. Like, he's a villain for a reason, but the rock just wanted the attention of playing an anti-hero, not a cohesive story that actually fit the character

The Rocks ego sabotaged this movie ans ultimately, any hopea for saving the DCEU. Snyder tanked the DCEU but the Rock definitely put the final nail in the coffin. Thank God James Gunn is rebooting DC.

It truly is pathetic to see how badly Warner Bros were just desperately trying to get something going with the DCEU. No one can deny the declining sales figures and quality of story, but when their backs were against the wall, the best WB and DC could think to do was entrust their future to a man with such a large ego as the Rock. Black Adam most certainly is the death of the DCEU for me. Fumble after fumble that lead to an average superhero movie, driven by someone reliably financially viable though heavily egocentric, overseen by a desperate company that just needed to make some kind of profit.

Can't lie I think that the Rock could probably pull off playing as Darkseid, and have the DCCU revolve around him, Darkseid is basically the Thanos of DC so it would make sense for the CU to revolve around him.

I'm not a long term reader of Black Adam, but it seems like in the stuff I did read they implied that he was the person granted the power but he went bad, a lot like Sinestro. I wonder if they have reworked his history a few times. The animated Superman vs. Black Adam seemed to say that as well. But Black Adam has seldom played hero, he's mostly a pretty nasty villain.

Warner Brothers is to😢o concerned with competing with the Marvel movies that they don't seem to realize that the it's not just about having product. It's about having a GOOD product. This wasn't a bad movie but, they were trying too hard to make connections to where they want to go in the future. But, you can't get where you want to go if you don't pay attention to where you are actually going.

Let's be honest, comic book readers is a small portion of the population. Most normal movie goers don't know who these characters are & the readers isn't enough of the population to make enough revenue. The biggest problem Superheroes movies have is not introducing enough Heroes/villains as costars in the big hitters. Nothing wrong with Black Adam, it was a good introduction movie. Ppl act like the only thing Adam does is interact with Shazam, which is ridiculous. Let's be honest, Black Adam wasn't going to make The Shazam franchise any good those movies were horrible. 😂 You could have a lot of movies without Adam as long as Shazam movies were good WHICH THEY AREN'T. Hell so far I haven't seen not one current Spiderman movie with Venom or Carnage. BOTH Spiderman & Venom movies are fantastic!

The audience needs to know why the antihero is changing. Look at Ryan Reynolds amazing portrayal of Deadpool. Hes most definitely an antihero. He murders people left and right, and sometimes in the most violent ways. But we know immediately that Deadpool does ugly things for the right reasons. And sometimes we are totally rooting for him. Thats because we were there to watch Wade go through h*ll. From what i can see in Black Adam, hes just not likeable. They shouldve ignored The Rocks demands, kicked him out of the project if need be. Black Adam shouldve remained THE ANTAGONIST for Shazam. They couldve still given Black Adam the heart of T2, misunderstood by everyone but the audience. But Shazam should be our ultimate hero.

Great Vid! From the very first day I learned that the Rock would portray Black Adam I was hyped. The Rock as Black Adam? I was totally won over. However, since I heard the news regarding how much the Rock's ego was of a hindrance, the man has seriously gone down in my estimation. Especially if you know his humble beginnings, seems to 've forget it himself. Also, it's such a shame that so much potential was lost with Shazam and Black Adam. As you say V, Shazam and Black Adam have been enemies from the very beginning. There can't be a greater contrast, they're two complete opposites. Heck it's indeed even portrayed by way of there costumes!? Hence, playing these two characters off against each other (the silly slapstick goofyness vs the death serous menace) had potential. Figure Black Adam as a tremendously brutal and blood thirsty tyrant fueled by revenge and bent on world conquering. Willing to destroy everything and everyone standing in his way. Enter the goofy lighthearted inexperienced Shazam, a child that must pass off as an adult superhero, being in for the rude awakening of a lifetime, the mother of all reality checks. Man, I would've payed double to go and see a well executed movie with this premise and DC would 've had another 'milestone/first' on its hands since Joker, with yet again another superhero movie of another (the gory drama) kind. Such a movie could've even given the genre a second wind, and set the wind in DC's sails allowing it to again sail where Marvel had not yet before dared to sail. This whole Shazam debacle and the so called Superhero fatigue phenomenon got to me sooo much that it became the impetus for me to start making videos myself. Small side note, I'm just a hobbyist who only makes videos as an outlet, as anyone 'll no doubt will notice by way of the low quality. Hope to up this over time but it 'll all depend and where this road 'll lead me. I 'd sure would love to follow it further but it's really all up to wether the KZbin public will let me, because it's hard to make it here without viewers 'ID kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2TKY6t7ndRro6s
