It's interesting how often a castle under siege is commanded by the lady while her husband was away. I remember something about a siege at a French castle in what is now Lebanon during one of the crusades being successfully commanded by the lords wife while he was away. I must admit to finding that the castle had so much brickwork intriguing. The Medieval wall which was around Kingston upon Hull was also made of brisk and was the biggest structure to use such material.

I had a scottish grandmother on one side and great grandmother on the other. Never got taught anything about our family heritage or any of our roots, and subsequently have never been able to tell my own children. Making a point of learning what I can now from both familial research and learning more about the countries my last 3 or 4 generations come from (Found we had some German, Welsh and some Australian heritage too!). Truly enjoyed this video. And never feel disappointed or bored hearing about Scottish history. 😂 Thanks for sharing. ❤

Good video as always. Just been watching a youtube channel which claims Black Agnes was called Black Agnes because she was actually black, which I believe the creator of the channel thinks, means black sub saharan African. Similarly on the same channel he claims the many people who were described in Scottish and Irish history as black something or dubh ( Gaelic for black ) like Domhnall Dubh ( black Donald), for example were also so called because the were all black too. Seems so illogical, but some people these days love to stir it up.
@scotlandunplugged10 ай бұрын
Interesting. Wonder where they got that idea 🤔

@@scotlandunplugged Ive noticed a couple of youtube channels pushing this nonsense. The explanations are quite ridiculous and without any evidence. Infact no real scientific evidence given, but just misinterpretations of the facts. If you make any comments stating that you disagree. You are told that it must be hard for you to accept that youve been lied to all of your life and it must make you very uncomfortable. 🤣 But their video seemed to get a lot of likes. Obviously I cant post the names of these channels here.
