JunkyBerry I know it’s a pedophilic ship. There are many animes/mangas that are actually yaoi, but the main ship is pedophilia or incest. Yaoi means “no meaning, just climax,” so there doesn’t even have to be a relationship there for something to be considered yaoi, all it needs is sex. But anyways, I was mocking sebaciel shippers with the uwu yaoi thing because that’s what they say.

Scenes of the contract include reluctant steps towards him and the scene where Sebastian tries shaking him out of it shows he's scared.

The "no Grell isn't Trans!1" thing makes me so mad. As a Trans person myself you should pay attention to how people refer to themselves! Various times in the manga AND anime Grell refers to herself as a woman/lady/madam etc. Grell dresses in woman's clothes! Grell worked with Madam Red because she was also frustrated that she didn't have the body parts to have a child. Grell literally calls herself a "red point" in the manga which means the only girl in the group this gets translated quite frequently to "pretty redhead" But of course since its Victorian Era England almost everyone disregards Grell's identity and misgenders her. Grell is a woman. Regardless if she as a character has had surgery or not she's a woman.

Grell wears a men's suit (mostly for safety reasons), and nobody misgenders her. Chibimyumi explained how Japanese pronouns work. If you Google search "Grell's pronouns Chibimyumi" I guess you'll find the article.

The only reason why I believe that Grell is a trans woman is because she refers to herself as a woman. Grell also presents herself as feminine as possible, and in one part of the manga Grell says she wants a sex change. I feel like people try to deny it because of their yaoi ships.

Since you were confused on how people couldn't tell the twins apart, I'm a twin and that is very realistic. People only stopped confusing me and my sister when I got a pixie cut, and I had a bob and she had long hair. Some people are able to tell you apart, so I think Tanaka knew "Ciel" wasn't Ciel, since he was very close with the twins, but I'm not that surprised that most people didn't realize.

I forgot to mention this in the video but Yana already had a deal with GFantasy to do a manga after their interest peaked with Rustblast. *GFANTASY IS NOT A YAOI MANGA PUBLISHING COMPANY* They are the same publication company for Fullmetal Alchemist along with other fantasy shounen series. If Black Butler was really supposed to be a yaoi, which as I state in the video is bullshit, then Yana would have to have had a deal with a manga publishing company that at least printed yaoi manga before or in the past. Considering none of GFantasy's current published mangas are yaoi, the statement is literally impossible. I have also seen 1 or 2 people bring up on forums and stuff that apparently Kuma (Yana's editor as I state in the video) was the one who started this rumor but me, friends and literally every good Black Butler fan have looked up the source or tried to find it as it didn't exist. Any source someone gave was to a forum where someone else went "Uuuhhh I think he said it?" and that's it. If Yana wanted to make a yaoi then she would have taken one of her one-shots from Glamorous Lip, improved upon it and worked with a *yaoi* publishing company and she would have probably made the millionth junjou romantica knock off but she didn't. Instead she made a tragedy set in the Victorian era about a boy who's lost all his innocence and literally does terrible things as revenge.

Black Butler was heavily inspired by one of her SHOTACON stories in Glamorous Lip , which involves a young boy and a demon, that's where the misconception comes from because one of her editors said the characters and concept can also work in a shonen story

Only that her and her editor came up with the concept of Black Butler. Yana Toboso had a bad habit of same face body syndrome. She would always drawn men the same with just different traits that's why I think people look back at GL and think they came from that since she literally drew everyone the same. She's become a fucking beautiful artist, but my god you really couldn't tell her characters apart back in the day.

There is a Tumblr artist (who I will not name as to not stir up drama) who portrays Grell as a gay man because she's extremely transphobic/dumb and pulls up a lot of the bullshit points I shut down in this video. Doesn't help this artist manages to convince a lot of people of the same thing.

Yana did call Grell a woman in some posts from 2018. Not "a man with a woman's heart", as she used to, "woman" only. KZbin hates links, so I can't add any here, but I have some videos about Grell and there are links in the description. The people who deny the canon Grell are only disrespectful to Yana's story, therefore to Yana as a writer. Grell's transgenderism is important for this character, since she's a shinigami... As you said, it's heartbreaking when you think about it.

2 years late to this video but I'm here now. I'm new to the fandom, but me being me I obsessed over it (I'm still trying to get ahold of the manga because it sounds so good and I want to read it so bad) and when I obsess, I like to learn anything and everything I can. This of course brings me into seeing many, _many_ posts about how black butler was originally supposed to be a yaoi. I didn't believe it but I also didn't totally dismiss it cause in my experience, anime gets weird so it isn't too outlandish... horrible and should never happen, but could happen. But a few days ago I was on tictok (my sister made me get it and now im hooked help) and one of the people I follow is J Michael Tatum (the English voice actor for Sebastian) because I love him and he's amazing. Anyway, in this video made in 2020, he addresses the ship between Sebastian and Ciel. In his words, "It's a ship that most certainly needs to sink." Not only does it go against both the manga canon and the anime canon, but the literal actor who plays Sebastian said it's messed up and should not be a thing

Okay this video was actually super helpful. I was an outside observer of black butler and its fandom from the anime, though I've never watched it, and always had some poor ideas about it. When the backstory stuff got revealed (the pages you showed that implied that the twins were assaulted), it trended on tumblr. I read those pages, got really invested, and then admittedly forgot about it (fun fact I did the exact same thing for Tokyo Ghoul: Re when the "we're probably about to die let's be intimate" thing happened). Anyway, I still had the idea of the anime and fandom that I always had, and so didn't do anything with it. Now I'm interested again, and seeing that a lot of the things I thought about the series that made me squeamish weren't actually a thing was really nice. Idk if I'll be involved in fandom, but I might give the manga a shot

i think you can recognize that it's distasteful to romanticize the scene where ciel has a panic attack but you can also be critical of the fact that yana toboso has a tendency of sexualizing horrific scenes just by how she draws them. there's this later, incredibly horrific thing that ciel endures in a flashback later on and a ring is swallowed, and yana toboso sexualizes it.

I know how misconception feels. I will admit that I'm not a big fan of Black Butler I do enjoy it though. Just not a big fan but I like it. But I'm a big fan of FMA and thats something I want to say something about. I hate the fact that in the 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist they changed the main villain. Instead of Father we get some woman called Dante(She is obviously named after Dante Alighri which I admit is a nice touch) anyway Dante sucks as a villain. Why is that? It's because she makes everything difficult for herself and makes a lot of dumb moves. She manipulates people to make a philosopher's stone for her and why? Thats because she doesn't know how to make one on her own. This makes no sense. Dante has been alive for 400 years and the one thing she depends on to stay alive and she doesn't know how to make one her own. When Edward reads Marcoh's notes he knows how to make a philosopher's stone immediately. And Dante she actually saw how Hohenheim made a stone in front of her eyes. Whats the difference between seeing it in person or just reading how to make one? Some people like Dante because she's a human. But the fact that she has been alive for 400 years and doesn't know how to make one her own is absoulty ludicrous

Then again all of FMA 2003 had that kind of bullshit writing, for me what pissed me off most was Wrath's concept -_- Yeah okay to make the homunculous more the incomplete version of the person they try to bring back is VERY interesting, but it doesn't make sense for Wrath. All other homunculous don't age and stay the same age they were when that person died (Sloth in her late/mid 30's, Greed in his late 20's, Lust in her 20's, etc) but why does Wrath get to age? Why does he have no arm or leg when Edward gets them back??? Literally none of that makes sense and it's such bullshit. Also like the amount of fucking filler that breaks the rules of FMA are frustrating too.

Just because he has Edward arm and leg doesn't mean he can perform alchemy. Alchemist perform alchemy from their soul. Tbh the reason why fam:b was so light on the first few episodes is because they were allowing bones studios to have the better version of everything up to pretty much right after the clearing of the devil's nest. When the plots diverge Broho is hands down the better anime and has the better plot. To this day I'm still salty about what they did to Hohenheim in FMA 03 and they ruined him so badly for me that i didn't even watch his parts in BroHo the first time I watched it. I just had a random thought, even though Yana never said anything The story of Will the Reaper might be slightly canonical. in the OVA they took in a bunch of Reapers? ( something about unofficial reapers) and tested them to see if they would qualify as official members of the shinigami dispatch. I mean take a look at Undertaker while he is still a reaper, he is no longer permitted to view the To Die list or wield a Death Scythe. And in book of Atlantic right after observing that Undertaker had no glasses, Ronald questions Undertakers status as a Reaper. not to mention that in the OVA they also give us an small insight into the idea that there are multiple Reaper divisions.

Yes, but reapers technically don't start out as "young", they start at whatever age they were when they took their own life. For instance, William wouldn't be a teenager, he'd be the age we see him as now. It's implied there is no "qualification" to being a reaper - you take your own life by any means and it makes you a reaper, as shown by Sascha when she explains the origins of reapers during the green witch arc. It's implied the glasses are given as identification as Undertaker left the reaper society due to his weird experiments. I mean, there's probably some truths to it like maybe William's backstory of losing a woman he loved that drove him to death, but other than that I don't think it works in the manga lol

Okay, talking about the whole twin thing, I'm very confused about that. I don't read the manga because personally I like watching the Animes more, so when I saw a video titled "The Truth About Ciel's Past" in my recommends, I was immediately stumped lol. What I got from it though is that Ciel had a twin that was killed in the ritual thingy and Ciel was the one that survived, called on Sebastian and here we are. Though you called 'our' Ciel by a different name I think? That's what's confusing me.. Did Ciel take his brother's name or something because, since he's dead, he would be the next in line for the head? But even then that doesn't really make sense. Also, at the end of the video I mentioned earlier, they said that the brother is coming back?? I thought he was stabbed..? There's no way he could have survived that. Idk lol I'm just all sorts of confusion over this, obviously. I'm pretty new to Black Butler, I just started watching it like 5 weeks ago. I've already watched the 1st season, I skipped the 2nd because, as many people have said, it has nothing to do with the storyline so I didn't see the point in watching it, I watched The Book of Circus, (By far my fav btw), The Book of Murder, as well as The Book of Atlantic. So, I believe I'm all caught up Anime wise.. Also, does anyone know if another season or 'Book of Whatever' (lol) is coming out? our!Ciel suffered from severe survivors guilt and didn't think he deserved to live so he decided to take his brother's name because he thought Ciel deserved to live instead of him. We don't know the name of our!Ciel / the spare because it MAY be revealed at a later date though Yana has possibly hinted that we may also never get his name revealed. I wouldn't recommend seeing season 1 as canon past episode 6 because the manga for Balck Butler wasn't out long enough to have a fully accurate anime adaptation so episode 7 and onward is their own stuff. If you watched the Book of the atlantic film then you know those zombies that Undertaker make? well, Ciel is a perfected version of that kind of zombie though he requires a LOT of blood to keep him in that state where he's a perfect resurrection of a human being otherwise he'll go back to being a limp corpse. Now, we don't know why Undertaker brought him back entirely other than him telling Sebastian that "he doesn't want to see anymore Phantomhive's die" which isn't revealed why he cares so much. (He also had a funeral locket of the twins' grandmother thus already showing he had a possible deep connection with family) I honestly wouldn't recommend that video explaining everything because he does get a lot wrong because it had literally just been revealed so we didn't get things like backstory for the twins, why no one could tell them apart, etc. The next anime adaption SHOULD be out this year as the book of series seems to have a 2 year gap. The next arc in Black Butler (again, extremely important to explaining how Ciel is alive) is the school arc but I really have no idea if they'll even do it as they skipped the jack the ripper arc lol (The school arc was hated when it was first being published so I have no clue if they'll still do it) It's all good :) I might just make a video to better explain this twin plot twist someday actually lol

Yes btw, our!ciel was there at that party and you actually see both twins but they're just hidden from the same shot very well. What I mean by the anime is season 1, the book of series has promised to follow the manga down to a T and it already has by perfectly emulating Yana's foreshadowing in an anime format. It's okay, I know there's a lot of questions with the twins plot twist lol The school arc was heavily disliked because the plot "didn't go anywhere" in that time because it was about our!Ciel destroying a hierarchy at a boys boarding school so he could find queen Victoria's missing nephew. The arc also introduced a LOT of new characters that are extremely important now, but we didn't know that then so a lot of people were confused by the sudden addition of 7 new characters.

The school arc starts from chapter 67, but it's important you read chapter 66 as it's a very important character arc scene for Elizabeth. in that chapter. Yeah, it's unfortunate and really sad the poor kid had to basically become an adult at 10 years old. The school arc basically gives us a glimpse as to what our!Ciel's life might've been like if he had been a normal boy and I do like the new characters :)
