@@DarkAngel2512 If the people are telling you that it is offensive to them and their culture to use AAVE and CA and you continue to do it. Does that tell that culture that you respect them and their people? No it does not. When the KHH has been told over and over again how this affects the black people and yet they continue to us CA tells the black people that they do not care about us. Culture and people go hand and hand. Do not take from a culture and not care about the people. If black people took Korean culture and used it to make a profit then we would be wrong. Give black people and it's culture the exact same respect you want us to show your people and culture.

I had a conversation with black friends on this matter. I understand their anger and how they felt vulnerable; they think the black culture had been rebranded into Korean style. It is true that there is no fine line of copy right or patent in music gerene, but rap culture is embedded within Black culture. Honestly, I do not know the answer to this matter. But, I want you to know that some of Koreans acknowledge this issue. Don't be to haste to judge and at least try to hear what we try to say. I wish you all the best day.

God, I hate how Kpop fans come into hip hop conversations and dictate to hip hop heads about things they arent even a part of and know eff all about. Did you know hip hop was originally created by latinoes aswell. Blacks and latinoes grew up in the same neighbourhoods. They created it together but black faces were more dominant so that's who people recognise as the face of hip hop. Go check BC One and see who competes? All races are welcome. @@panemp3 Umm yes we did share our culture??? There are so many black artists that have collaborated with non black artists starting DECADES ago in the 70s, man. Go watch a few of Cher's performances from the 70s. Michael Jackson, the king himself, wanted to collaborate with Tiger JK (the father of hip hop in korea, as mentioned in this video) at one point. Music is meant to be shared, and many black artists have done that over the years. This ignorant unnecessary gatekeeping by the younger generation is starting to get on my nerves so bad. Yall don't realize yall are making us all look bad by this behavior. Just because someone likes to do something that started with our culture and make it artistically their own, does not mean they need to be kissing our feet in the process. You didn't start hip hop. I didn't start it either, so literally what claim do we have other than our skin color? All I ask is respect the genre and don't try to be a fake thug/degrade women in the lyrics. Those are legit the only two things that bother me.

There's also something else that bothers be... the artist still working with Owen. At this point idk if I'm really expecting too much from another race towards their own but seeing people stand up with blm and then turn around and collab with Owen just really rubs me the wrong way... for example, h1ghr music specifically because I remember most if not all posting out about blm and then they drop that remix and include Owen... just made it seem performative to me.

Standing with BLM is also a marketing strategy. Almost anyone you normally see talking about it is POTENTIALLY using it for that (not everyone and not specifically talking about h1gher either). Especially ones that say "I donated this amount". You don't need to say that out loud. Owen is also a talented rapper (even tho I don't listen to his stuff) and has been in that small community for years. He is probably their friend and they wanted to give him a chance. These are just potential reasons on why collabs like these occur. For all we know, my statements can be entirely wrong

Owen didnt do anything wrong. He had been working on his music unaware about the activism after George Floyd. Infact it was prob a day or two later he started getting abusive messages about it, something he wasnt even aware of. The activists attacking him were in the wrong. And not to mention Floyd wasnt killed due to his race and its contested whether he was even killed as new autopsy reports and camera angles show. Plus BLM ripped off 50% of the donations ($45 million). So he wasnt wrong for not posting about BLM, Floyd etc. Too many ppl wade in and blindly support stuff. BLM are a Marxist organisation and considering what Marxism and Communism has done to North Korea and China expecting an Asian person to support BLM is asking the ridiculous.

True. But also neither was Rick Ross or Prodigy from what I've read. Hip hop is supposed to be about keeping it real and while I dont mind storytelling if someone clearly doesnt have a lick of street culture about them the "acting" isnt convincing. A lot of these K pop rappers (not including KHH artists) are quite inauthentic but for me that applies to any race. I cant follow much western mainstream for the same reason. I can def jam out to Jay's commercial stuff as he is openly commercial and doesnt try to be thug but you have people like JKyun(forgot what he changed his name to) who faced off to Swings in Show Me season a couple years ago and it was utter cringe. They dont seem to get it and its quite transparent. Then you have the less pop artists who have a more convincing street style like Deep Flow or Vasco/Bill Stax.

Personally I'm 50/50 on the hair, I admit it may be hypocritical of me but I only feel upset in my soul when I see/feel like a Korean artist wearing black hairstyles is purposefully trying to stereotypically "act black" / mimic another Black artist / doing it as a trend. As for some of them namely G2, he's had locs for years and wasn't just jumping back and forth on it as a trend nor did I feel like he was trying to portray himself as a Black man so I personally lowkey saw that as appreciation (again that's me personally but to the wider society it is still deemed CA and I won't refute that) it's just all in the vibe for me personally and their actions that determines if I'm offended and offended to the point of not listening to their music. However, I'm not going to jump in to defend them against my community because I know why others are against it 100% and just because I'm Black doesn't mean I get to speak over the entire community. What I also really dislike is when some of them get called out for it and some reply with things like 'I love Black people, I love Black culture' but can't understand why wearing certain styles or even saying certain things is offensive? They're so quick to pick up on trends yet some really expect me to believe they don't know some history behind these things or even the n-word? or at least know its wide knowledge that that stuff is offensive for a valid reason... Regardless of my personally feelings on the hair, I think it would be better to respect Black people by just not doing these things they deem offensive.

I agree with this point. My beef is mostly with how people behave while wearing Black hair styles rather than the style itself. Like I HATED Zicos Tough Cookie because it felt thoroughly offensive. Black homicide rates wet up 800% in Portland when police were defunded. BLM are NOT a good charity. They are bad for black people and race relations as a whole. I think that this type of copying was big and is still being done to a degree but I feel that it's starting to stop a bit. American pop culture isn't as crazy for African culture as it once was. It's beginning to get old. We still use rap in music but it's getting old. And this energy will spread around the world slowly stopping the copying of African culture a bit. If you look at BTS and their new style and music they use very less black influence on it. And many other Asian or Korean singers are changing too. It's dying off slowly. It's getting old. I don't know what the USA or the world will do after we all let go of African influence in pop culture but it's coming to an end.

But I feel like the outlet to any discussion about this is an argument of who did it first, and is always gonna end up the same way. So my advice is, let's live today and enjoy what we like.

Yea.. I don't think that's the argument at all.. I think Black people(I can only speak for myself as a Black person) are saying its okay to appreciate the culture, but pay tribute to the originals and realize that their would be no K-pop, J-pop, C-pop etc without them.. And please for the love of god, Stop doing racist things.. Stop doing black-face. Stop suddenly speaking AAVE when you put fake locs in your hair.. Stop going on these korean shows and saying your talent is having a "blaccent". Stop saying the N word.. Stop posting these fake influencer apologies after doing or saying something racist and then continue the racist behaviors after the heat dies down.. Stop wearing racist logos and featuring racist speeches from problematic and racist people on your mix tapes.. Stop harassing's black people on the streets who visit your country.. Its pretty common sense. It's the bare minimum..

@@terrancejovan4825 right because at this point I just feel like their profiting off us and that’s it. If their going to be like that towards black people when we come to their country or not treating us with respect as they will do with a white person. They should just go ahead and be original and come with their own genre of music and style that’s not heavily influenced by black people who are trying to make out the hood or turning nothing into something or just being an African American because not all black are born into the hood or use avve like they very ignorant.

i love this so much . Tbh i'm from SA right. for us and i hope for the majority of people out there it ain't about who did it better, who stole who's swag or bars, it is about the music and i love how the Asian and black community has come together and influenced each other in the best way possible. I mean who cares who cares who came up with what first as long as we can come together sing/rap along to the song and dance to the beats. Damn I LOVE THE POWER OF MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@AlicciaBoBa
@AlicciaBoBa 3 жыл бұрын
First off we never came together, just cause Asians are using/stealing our culture, and profiting off it doesn’t mean black people are united with them. It means that they are copying and not giving any credit, and you can’t steal swag that never belonged to you, you have to “originally” be it first. It’s one thing to mimic black peoples music , but to act like them and wear our culture as costume is disrespectful. Why can’t people just be original?

You’ve got it all wrong , majority East Asians are colorist and racist, we don’t associate with their culture, we don’t steal their culture. K-pop is a big rip off of black culture. There is a huge difference between appropriating and appreciating one’s culture

I don't understand English well, but you have a wrong view of "Black Culture" how do you define black culture? by musical genres? I can take the example of hip-hop which was invented by Afro-Americans it's a fact, the popularization of hip-hop allowed to create hip-hop culture, Afrika Bambataa popularized it, it's the same for other genres under others shapes, this black History day I don't know what happened in concrete terms, it's much too vague, moreover I digress a little from the subject but it's the same people to celebrate their stories will appropriate the history of other nations (Egypt, Morocco, Israel or even in Europe) was an example, Korean hip-hop developed with Korean rappers,We're talking about hip-hop culture and not about skin color or ethnicity
@sweetchocolatesecret
@sweetchocolatesecret 3 жыл бұрын
I think that although Koreans perform k hip-hop, it is strongly influenced by American hip hop and the genre of American hip hop is deeply rooted in Black culture. The stories, the rhythm and the fashion of hip hop all is a part of Black American culture. Therefore Korean culture will take some influence from Black culture based on the strong relationship between music and culture as a whole. Skin color and ethnicity are not the only components to consider when seeing the relationship between influence and Black culture as a whole.

@@sweetchocolatesecret It comes from African American populations yes, but the goal of Hip-hop culture is to break the barrier of skin color,Of course, American hip-hop to influence Korean hip-hop but also Korean artists innovated it,Korean culture Don't get swayed and it has nothing to do with it,Don't talk about black culture it's a lot abstract

@@shanelong9221 hip hop has no definition too but you cannot close your eyes on a whole cultural influence cause it’s « too vague ». The point here is to celebrate the Black History month by reminding how much we should be grateful for what they brought to the World and honor them for that. Has a K Hip Hop channel it’s a duty to inform people about the cultural background of the music genre they love. If you are assuming that KHH is only about Korea then you are putting aside the entire World. We live in the era of exchange, travel and globalisation. Cultures inspire each other : it’s time to see it, accept it and be thankful for it

You can't claim you understand a genre and a culture and try to act like you're a part of it withour first understanding where that culture and genre originated and who influenced and popularized it. Without understanding what it's about. Without understanding what it meand as a collective and as a genre and how important the figures in that culture and genre are. The absolute influence and culture and inspiration and ideas given to other countries by the black community from this genre and our culture used to inspire and help create sub genres of this genre and of this culture all over the world cannot be ignored.
