Just so you know protection from black means you cant target that permanent with a black spell therefor bileblight will not resolve and effect it's target, and the secondary effect of "with the same name" will not occur as it is an invalid target and the result is your spell not resolving.

No way Phyrexian Obliberator is the most powerful black card ever printed. Just look at necropotence, tendrils of agony, yawgmoth's will and griselbrand. It's very powerful, but to say it's the most powerful card would just be kinda dumb.
@DesolatorMagic8 жыл бұрын
I said creature. And griselbrand is pathetic compared to Obliterator.
@YodielandInhabitant7108 жыл бұрын
"This is quite possibly the most powerful black card ever printed." Straight from the video. Also griselbrand can win you the game straight when it hits the field with no possibility to interact, obliberator requires more from you and the opponent. Look up the deck "Grishoalbrand" and decide for yourself.

Hey Desolator, great video and awesome deck :) I am working my way towards the whole playset of obliterators, but meanwhile I use Geralf's messenger instead of obliterator and Desecration demon instead of Archfiend because I don't have that one either. It works really well! The decks I have the most trouble against are the mono-blue or blue+anything control decks and they are quite common at my LGS. My struggle might be due to the fact that I am such a noob still, but what would you recommend as sideboard to control? Go lower on the mana curve in order to faster run them over with creatures, or try and add some control/hand disruption to it?

have you tried black sun's zenith or maybe festering march?, march is a bit slow, but they are both recurring mass removal. March is -1/-1 to the whole board as a sorcery for 3BB or 2B suspend 3, but it suspends itself again for 3 every time it goes off so it wipes 1/1s every 3 turns. BSZ is a better alternative giving everything X -1/-1 counters then shuffling back into the deck so it could be a 1 or 2 of and still maybe get multiple uses, maybe instead of a languish
@xXDani6540Xx7 жыл бұрын
Should I rather put in 2 more of the Archfiends of Depravity and a Master of the Feast or some Geralfs Messenger for Phyrexian Obliterator? ( I play casual, so no sideboard, no restrictions and no banlists) The replacement doesn't need to be dirt cheap, it can cost up to 5€ Would you replace arrogant bloodlord? It seems kinda shitty compared to 2 more squelching leeches Hope you get well soon.

I have been running it for a few years now, and it is amazingly consistent. And at ~$25, the ROI is sick. Instant (16) 4x Disfigure 4x Funeral Charm 4x Hero's Downfall 4x Victim of Night Creature (8) 4x Desecration Demon 4x Vampire Nighthawk Sorcery (15) 4x Duress 3x Haunting Echoes 4x Mire's Toll 4x Sign in Blood Land (21) 21x Swamp

I think lashwrithe might be a little better than squelching leeches. Same casting cost, but 4 generic so you can cast it without reliance of black, and if they kill the germ token you can still equip it to make another creature bigger. Being an artifact might make it a small downside but creature removal is just as high if not higher.
@keatonkuuuun8 жыл бұрын
+Stoner Kebab I'm giving upsides to the card in general. I've had times where my nykthos wouldn't be enough without just tapping for colorless.

You could consider "Darkness" as a sideboard strategy against merfolk and/or affinity if you can't deal with their threats quickly enough. It's basically the black "fog". You could include Damnation in severe instances; although I realise it isn't budget. Disowned Ancestor (early blocker)Thoughtseize / Inquisition of Kozilek / Duress (for early hand disruption)Surgical Extraction / Extirpate (exile from graveyard, hand and library)Shadow Alley Denizen (fear) Are other sideboard options.

Question: Do you put your decks up on tappedout? (i'm sure this has been asked before, but i don't really want to wade through the cess pool that is KZbin's comment section).
@aldinlewis55798 жыл бұрын
Honestly if your deck is having trouble with decks that win turn 4 or 5 your deck is unsuitable for modern. Looking at your deck list I think you aren't stifling your opponents plans enough, you need cards like thoughtseize, duress, or despise to slow down your opponent. ultimately there are just a ton of cards in your deck that I wouldn't even play in standard.
@uswilkibr7 жыл бұрын
This inspired me to make a similar, more budget deck that has been fun, thanks for the idea! I play Vampire Nighthawks, Gifted Aetherborn, Abyssal Persecutor (generally he's easy to kill off when you need to), and Lashwrithes in my version (plus the Gatekeepers) and mutilate over languish. It's awesome to attach a lashwrithe to my vampire nighthawk, attack for 6+ lifelink in the air, then mutilate their board away while keeping my giant nighthawk. I also prefer victim of night over go for the throat considering affinity is still a thing now and then (more so than zombies, werewolves, and vampires I'd say). I even put in Inquisition of Kozilek now that they are more budget. I do think the sideboard ought to be a place for things that deal with combo decks and such though- memoricide, infinite obliteration, tormod's crypt, extirpate; whatever your meta looks like.

desecration demon might be a good fit since they're having to sac creatures all the time. 6/6 flyer for 4cmc that forces them to either tap down the last of their creatures and build yours, or eat 6 to the face. what's not to love? also 1-2x liliana of the dark realms seems almost like a must. Great shell nonetheless
@noahbandl13068 жыл бұрын
A lot of Devo to black in this deck. I'm assuming you've considered Gray Merchant of Asphodel? A one of included might be a nice additional finisher. Also, would be putting in dismembers be more effective instead of the go for the throats? Kills everything in the format and isn't at the mercy of affinity (kinda costs less too).
@DesolatorMagic8 жыл бұрын
+Noah Bandl Devotion is one of my favorite mechanics but it's one of those "if you're already winning, win more" cards. If they let you cast out 2-3 creatures onto the battlefield, you're already going to win. Also dismember is a reeeeally awful card. It costs 3 instead of 2 of risks your life total and then can't kill really, really large creatures, which are all this deck is normally afraid of. Dismember is a kill spell for non-black decks and that's about it.
@noahbandl13068 жыл бұрын
+DesolatorMagic Ahhh yea I see what you mean, with both points, really. Why spend mana and lose life when you can just do the same thing (aside from get around indestructible which there is none of in the current meta so disregard that) for less mana and no life loss! :D The benefits about playing in black, eh xD

Hey Desaltor. Thank younfor this. I have a mono black control build i have been strggling with for a while. It is a spell heavy deck. And i need to replace some things with more creatures. Lashwrithe is strictly better than Squelching Leaches. It is a 4 mana equipment with Living Weapon, which means Lashwrithe enters the battlefield equiped to a 0/0 germ. It gives the equipped creature +1/+1 for each swamp you control. I SO highly recommend this card.
@DDPMonster8 жыл бұрын
True, however it gets value after it dies where korlash doesn't. I like it better, call me crazy, but a phyrexian obliterator with lashwrithe is better than korlash.

What about a black blue with mill/self mill & draw cards, creatures that can be played or retrieved from the graveyard (maybe some spells that can be exile played from the graveyard) and 4 call from the grave and 4 necromantic summons? If you have enough enemy mill card in this deck, you can literally use their best cards against them (creature cards anyways, not going to win any awards against near pure spell decks).

It had 4 Korlash heir to black blade 4 squelching leeches And 4 lashwrithes. And it actually had a use for Liliana of the dark realms, fetching those swamps constantly (first deck I went entirely full art on) It had a use for corrupt, and drain life (which I believe took it out of modern) The problem though, is that it made everything cost 4 Mana, and that is too damn high.

Phyrexian Obliterator has a huge weakness if you can get something on your opponents side of the field to deal damage to it. you shoud exchange the "Squelching Leeches" with "Lashwrithe"s you'll drop techneacaly the same creature, but its power stays on the field for others if it dies somehow. then maybe exchange the "Arrogant Bloodlord" with an "Vampire Nighthawk", because he can trade any creature if needed, (and a lifelink flyer iwht the Lashwrithe woud be nice too) maybe add a "Gruul Draz Assassin" a creature which can remove sometimes, so it has to be removed. And i like to play "Geth's Verdict" as removel because... reasons.

Have you considered a disruption package for your sideboard? Duress and the like to stop combo like storm? If combo is the big problem, why not sideboard against it? In many cases getting a turn 1 discard spell off means the combo player gets delayed by multiple turns. I like how you really attack your local meta. Trying to attack the modern meta in general is super hard right now because of the uncertainty still surrounding the Eldrazi. People are playing lots of linear strategies centered on creature decks, but if Eldrazi goes, that could cause a total shift. I love single color decks in Modern. Cuts out the most egregious part of the cost of the format.

What about Grasp of Darkness over Go for the Throat? Does it hit everything you want? Affinity players hate it when the opponent has main deck Drown in Sorrow or Flaying Tendrils. Often a -2/-2 is enough to get rid of all their creatures or force them to sacrifice them to move counters around. It's bad against the Eldrazi, so it only belongs in the side, but I think Smother might be a good one to consider. I guess it all depends on the local meta. I'm not planning on playing in a competitive GP, Open, 5K or whatever any time soon.

Infinite Obliteration would be good against a known Creature Combo. Like Abzan life gain combo naming Melira, Sylvok Outcast

Sideboard artifact hate. Splashing green for some artifact/enchantment hate would be a good idea. I think you have a rough Mach up to tron.

Could you make a video about what things you have to think of when you make a Tricolored deck? :)

I love the deck. Will you update after SOI or no?
@DesolatorMagic8 жыл бұрын
+Jonathan Winer I didn't check if anything in SOI was better but black is kinda Innistrad's thing so maybe.
@jonathanwiner24158 жыл бұрын
+DesolatorMagic Soi itself isn't very good in the black cards but it might be an ok block. Asylum Visitor might be included as a 1 or 2 of, cheaper, less effective version of bob that sometimes works. Mainly for late game though
@drahydra8 жыл бұрын
Why not Grey Merchant of Asphodel instead of Archfiend of Depravity? It's five mana, and usually by the time you get there, the triggered ability will just kill your opponent right there.
@DesolatorMagic8 жыл бұрын
+drahydra I don't like "if you're already going to win, win even more" cards, which describes a lot of devotion cards. If you had enough devotion on the field for it to be good, you'd have won anyway.
@josephemilio8 жыл бұрын
+DesolatorMagic So rather than play a card that can win the game on the spot you'd rather run a 5 drop that has no immediate effect to the board and requires it to not only survive the rest of your turn, but your opponents entire turn before it's effect might pay off? That seems just awful. And how is Grey Merchant "win more?" The whole point of the game is to win, so why not do it efficiently? Dropping a turn 5 Archfiend of Depravity will rarely put you in a winning spot as compared to a card that has the potential for huge life swings. Turn 2 removal, turn 3 kicked Gatekeeper, turn 4 Obliterator, turn 5 Merchant. I'd rather be in a spot where my opponent needed to react to my plays faster than "oh shit, they just played a 5/4 that gives me a turn and a half to respond to, and I get to draw a potential on my turn. Better hurry up."

Victim of Night hits more creatures than Go for the Throat. Two creatures you missed; Bloodghast & Demigod of Revenge

I'd go down to 3 Urborgs, because once you have one, it's normally a dead draw.

Surprised you didn't run storm and combo hate: Phyrexian Invoker, Pithing Needle, etc. to shut down combination decks.

With so many swamps, maybe add nightmare, 6 mana sure, but it comes in as a 6/6 flyer at least.

+Logan ‘Cynical Bastard’ Ace - fair enough but there is languish, killing wave, archfiend of depravity, gatekeeper of malakir. These don't target so it's easy enough to kill them.

The Rouge Deckbuilder has a decent argument for why this deck won't work with the current rotation of modern (OGW). Even if you do manage to get a nice sweep of aggro monsters, there's still a good chance for counter spells, and by turn three and four most eldrazi/aggro decks will already either have won, or will have their win condition on the field, out of range of much of the removal in this deck. In short, FUCK ELDRAZI. Totes a fun deck though. Black is the bomb.
@DesolatorMagic8 жыл бұрын
+CJ How the hell did he make a video about my deck in the last 15 minutes? Anyway, his theory vs me playing this a ton of Xmage and me saying it works certainly suggests that it works. My win ratio is higher than any deck I've ever seen other than the crimes against modern like storm, living end, lantern, etc.
@ColeTrainStudio8 жыл бұрын
DesolatorMagic He didn't make a video about it, it he mentioned that black/kill decks wouldn't really work. But that's his theory.
@AmericanAmarok8 жыл бұрын
+DesolatorMagic is your meta mainly mid range because this deck seems like it's good against mid range but looses to agro
@mattyd77398 жыл бұрын
+CJ Basically if the Eldrazi player gets the type of hand that allows for a turn 2 Thought-Knot Seer, this deck might spend the entire gaming killing things a turn too late. If they take a risky hand or mulligan too aggressively, this deck would punish them. I think that's a pretty good match up against the best deck in the format. Though I think something like Thoughtseize would solve the issue. Instead of putting money into Obliterators, I think disruption like Thoughtsieze and Inquisition would be better long term investments.
