Please what the difference between baking soda and baking powder Thank you

Both raising agents but slightly different. Baking powder is a complete raising agent, whereas baking soda needs an acid to activate it. When a recipe calls for only baking soda, it should have either lemon, buttermilk, cream of tartar, juice or vinegar. But plain recipes without acids calls for baking powder because it can function on its own. Then when it calls for both without an acid present, it means, the dense cake will come out soft in the mouth. It will look dense on the outside but very light and soft in the mouth.

This is a lovely recipe for a chocolate cake, this is definitely not a Black Forest cake. According to Wikipedia, Black Forest gâteau or Black Forest cake is a chocolate sponge cake with a rich cherry filling based on the German dessert Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte, literally "Black Forest Cherry-torte". Typically, Black Forest gateau consists of several layers of chocolate sponge cake sandwiched with whipped cream and cherries. It’s actually a pretty lengthy process… just saying.
