I made this last day, doubling all the ingredients and it came out really well. Only thing I noticed is the cake slightly sunk in the middle, same as it is visible in your cake too. But it didn't affect the taste of it. Also I didn't use the sugar syrup fully, just 80% of it, and it was sweet to my taste buds. Thank you for this recipe. Like you said it was tastier the next day. Cheers 😊 Ingredients: For the Chocolate Sponge Cake: (9" round cake) *1 cup all-purpose flour (maida) *1/2 cup cocoa powder *1 1/2 tsp baking powder *2 pinches of baking soda *1/4 tsp salt *4 egg whites, (at room temperature) *150 g (3/4 cup) powdered sugar *4 egg yolks *2 tsp vanilla extract *3/4 cup (I used sunflower oil) For the Simple Syrup: *1/2 cup + 2 tbps sugar *1/2 cup + 2 tbps water For the Whipped Cream: *600 ml whipping cream *1/2 cup + 2 tbps powdered sugar

I tried this recipe for my husband birthday, I never did baking and it was my first experience. Yesterday I baked for the first time in life for my husband's birthday. I had never ever baked in my life before. I planned to make Black Forest cake, and saw a dozens of recipes. I finally zeroed in on two recipes. One was in Bengali and the other one is yours, Neha. Both recipes were pretty much similar. However, I followed yours one, just added 3 eggs instead of 2. The cake had taken a little more than 25 minutes, but when it was out, the middle had sunk a little bit. Except that bit, the cake came out so beautifully, and it tasted so delicious! My husband couldn't believe that it was the first cake I ever baked in my life. I was so worried before deciding to bake for his birthday. I had heard lots of stories of people who had disastrous first baking experience. I'm glad it came out so well. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Shrankhla Khare i think longer baking time, which is why the centre sunk! My husband loved it so much that just after two days he asked me to bake another one. I did, this time with two eggs. No sunken centre.

@@brianoholain2035 those are egg whites, eggs without the egg yolk. egg whites can be beaten to look creamy like that. Hope this answers your question

Hello. While I'm very much an amateur in the kitchen I believe I can help you. Because the exact state of whipped cream is highly capricious, it is measured by looking at it's physical characteristics. The one unique to whipped cream is how it peaks, or how well it holds it's shape when the spatula/beater is lifted. Syrup needs kirch liquor same for cherries that is what makes it Black Forest this is chocolate cherry cake

Mana Dzīve ASV I used the ingredients available in India so that my fellow Indians can make it easily. This is the cake I have grown up eating. I know I haven’t used fancy ingredients or made a classic Black Forest but it’s just a personal recipe. :)

Try to caremalize sugar first to dark brown color and then boil with water, this syrup tastes like wine and now sprinkle it on cake. I have made it this way and cake turned out amazing with that robust flavor of caramelized sugar.

We can add sugar to beaten egg whites... And whipping cream is really ready... It is also called Meringue....

I baked it at 350 degrees. I can’t give an exact time because my oven seems to cook much faster than specified times. I just made sure to keep an eye on it and checked with a toothpick. When the toothpick came out clean I took it out of the oven.

mav Hmk You can but it wouldn’t go well with Black Forest cake is buttercream frosting is too rich and heavy. But it is upto you. :)

Beyeahh- You can either use chocolate ganache (white, milk or dark chocolate). Or you can use a meringue frosting. You can also use cream cheese frosting if it is available there. Buttercream frosting would work but it is a very rich frosting so it wouldn’t pair well with the cake. Hope this helps!

I thought for Black Forest you add in rum or alcohol since this is what makes the black forest have that unique moist taste.

Classic Black Forest is soaked with the syrup from the cherries (almost a pound of cherries is cooked with a bit of water and sugar, syrup is drained and used to soak the layers and cherries are added between the layers along with the stabilized whipped cream). Here, the author probably lives in the country where tart cherries either too expensive or nonexistent as what she uses in the cake are cocktail cherries that usually go on top of the Black Forest cake

I tried and it went wrong. 1st egg white didn’t fluff when I was beating. I did a long long time. 2nd it was oily when tasted. Had to toss all😒. If not the author, How we are reading and got it right please respond.

For anyone who wants to you could also use Black cherries, Special Dark cocoa powder, and bake three separate cake layers. It’s easier to do that than try and figure out where to slice

Tala Turk Hi. I’m not sure why that would’ve happened. But I’d suggest using a smaller pan (maybe an inch smaller) so that it can be cut easily. It could be that the cake did not rise as much. Make sure your eggs are beaten well and that the batter is not over mixed once the flour is added. Hope it works better next time. :)

jojo simao yeah it works fine I kept in microwave for 3mins on high depending of your microwave the timing may vary I have 750 watts microwave pls check ur microwave highest watts, also you can check out Gemma Stanford's channel big bold baking for more microwave cake receipes!!!also I make all my cakes in microwave hope this helps! 😊

Yesterday I tried Black Forest cake..I saw another video..it’s not good..if I try with the same quantity with same measurements the cake will be good..this is the first time i want to try for my husband birthday..Neha can you give me a suggestion which brand wipped cream is good.I need to buy in store?

@@KitchenTimewithNeha hi neha, when you are doing the two egg yolks with the whisk machine, it flips on screen then to a white creamy texture. Is that what happens with the eggs or did you add cream there but didn't put it in the video

Brían Ó hÓileaín If you are talking about the egg whites, the egg whites turn white and creamy in texture on beating on high speed for a few minutes. You don’t add cream to it. I added the egg yolks to the egg whites and beat them in too. :) You can look up egg white meringue to see how egg whites change their texture, if that helps.

Hi Ivania, you can add a teaspoon or 2 of coffee powder. It will accentuate the chocolate flavour. Hope this helps 😊

Everything is well explained. Only one point is you need to mention 'Icing Sugar' mix with whipped cream. Not the normal sugar.

Thank you very much for the video. I enjoyed. May I just have a couple of suggestions? You have a very sharp good knife, as I can see but for cakes it's much easier to use a serrated pastry knife, and a nicer more even slice, most importantly you won't need to put your hands by the blade. Also if you make lots of cake, I would invest in a round turntable stand for decorating and slicing. Sorry for the long comment. I hope this may help. Keep up the good work. 😊

Everyone ... also, here is the recipe without the links and I changed a measurement for her for American usage: Ingredients: For the Chocolate Sponge Cake: (6" round cake) *1/2 cup all-purpose flour (maida) *1/4 cup cocoa powder *3/4 tsp baking powder *a pinch of baking soda *1/8 tsp salt *2 egg whites, (at room temperature) *1/3 cup powdered sugar *2 egg yolks *1 tsp vanilla extract *6 tbsp oil (I used sunflower oil) For the Simple Syrup: *1/3 cup sugar *1/3 cup water For the Whipped Cream: *1 1/4 cup whipping cream (I used Deluxe Non Dairy whipping cream) *1/3 cup powdered sugar Others: *1 cup dark chocolate shavings *1/2 cup canned cherries
