For the most part I agree with you. I went to a black friday around 15yrs ago and immediately left, it was a complete zoo. Most stuff you can do online now. If I need to make some big purchases within a few months of black friday, I'll wait until then if not time sensitive. For example this year I bought some off roading/camping gear and a new tool chest and garage shelving. I would of bought either way. I am not a money waster in general, no debt, own a lot of assets and a business owner. Most people are consumers though and spend irresponsibly.

The reason this is wrong is there is selective items that are made specifically for certain companies look up the model numbers you can not compare items numbers.

29:43 - You are assuming that people are knowledgeable about all shoes and prices, and that this research is instantaneous. I want Shoe A. I know that Shoe A will be discounted in a couple months for Black Friday. I would rather wait and get the exact shoe I want that I know will fit, rather than going around trying on different shoes from different retailers precisely because I value my time. I can afford to wait. Why would I work that extra hour, and then spend that money on alternative shoes (after hours of extra shoe research), when I could do something better with my time and still get exactly what I want by waiting?

It definitely was a huge scam this year. Prices were raised on items before they dropped them to %40-50 off. So they ended up being full price anyway. They were scamming heavy this year.

Cash is debt, it is a note, it's when people buy stuff they don't need , even if it can be useful I think that is the biggest issue because people rationalize it.

I agree Rob it's definitely just a scam. A way for businesses and companies to get rid of old inventory and make room for newer upcoming products. It's amazing to me how people will literally push, shove and run people over to get the deals ....

Yes I did that system as well to chose 1 single optimal item which is the best for the task and stay with that model. I even buy several of them to have some spare ones. Obviously the items must give the most bang for the buck. Like on batteries I chose the Eneloop NiMH and have several of them, or for coffee mugs used for I chose the Ozark Trail 20 oz. mugs with an welded on handle and the 40 oz Ozark Trail tumbler with an apart to buy handle for an cold water water pitcher and tea dispenser (even if it is an tumbler meant as coffee mug). I have several of those and are the best bang for the buck and stainless steel. I tend to concentrate on stainless steel. Smartphones the like which are allways 50$ to 80$ smartphones with an changeable battery - I bought several of the Motorola E4 with the Android 7 system. They do what they are supposed to and Android depends on security on the Play Store and not so much on update patches which you dont get anyways. As of PC's I went away completely from laptops and got back to the old ATX tower PC systems since they are modular and one can change faulty hardware by the customer himself and change the CPU or GPU whenever they want. Or if the Motherboard fails then the case is still usable and all other components as well. I never go back anymore to propietary PC's like Dell or the like or even less to notebooks but rather stick to the old tower ATX system which is fully modular and expandable. Flashlights I stick eighter to Coast as brand (lifetime warranty no questions asked) or MagLite but then just one model of handheld and household flashlights of each brand all powered with the Eneloop AA NiMH batteries and with adapters so just the AA battery size is universally used. Saves a ton of money. Glasses and eyeglasses frames I chose a few models which I bought several of them just to have them on spare if I need them instead of depending on expensive eyeclinics frames which cost you about 1000% more and like this I can chose my frames of quality before I need them. Same for sunglasses which I literally chose 1 model and bought 6 of them for 15$ each on ebay (Prive Revaux) and they hold up very well and are not a scam which lets through UV rays (these have even polarization and antireflective, etc). Since the frame of these sunglasses is made of stainless steel and it has changeable lenses it doubles as well as an prescription glasses frame so in a pinch I can use these sunglass frames as prescription glasses frames for a fraction of the cost. Thats a huge savings since frames can cost easily hundreds of dollars or you get shitty chinese quality if the price is cheap. Ammo I reload myself and chose for that purpose a few standard calibers being it 9x19 Luger, 380 ACP and 357 Magnum/38 SPL. The handguns all are chose around those calibers since only buy guns for which caliber I can reload as well. Huge amount of savings. I a pinch all these calibers can for example be reloaded with shotgun ammo powder if you dismantle the shotgun case and use that powder gained from the shell. It works for all those 4 calibers fairly well although not optimal for full power 357 Mag loads (you get like that to 40 S&W power levels). So if gunpowder is prohibited, I can still disassemble stockpiled 12 gauge shells and use that powder. Huge advantage for "purge never ends" scenarios.

You're welcome to come over for Christmas, it would be an honor to have you here. Now, as for Black Friday, it looks to be a complete flop. Instead of video's of people walking over each other to get discounted merchandise, the stores barely had any shoppers. Best buy had TV's and electronics all over but no one was buying any. Same thing with WalMart & Target. When retail sales report for the holiday season, it's going to be ugly. Instead of inflation, we could be seeing deflation as stores discount unsold merchandise in a race to the bottom. VT247

Before the pandemic, Black Friday did have real deals. It would really be on the doorbusters. They were true deals that got people in the door, then people would end up buying a bunch of other things at relatively normal prices. That's how the stores made money. And your concept that the everyday pricing should be Black Friday, doesn't work with human psychology. You can't get people excited to come to your store with daily discounts. But you can bait people with a few items at a massive discount, and make the money on the cursory items that they buy. That only really works for a day, maybe two. And that's why when they extended it past Black Friday itself, it became watered down and now it's practically meaningless. This year they started Black Friday in October. Ridiculous. So there were no Doorbusters anymore. It was just a marketing gimmick. So now you're right. They have just become the everyday price.

We certainly don't have free market capitalism.
@stephenjensen535811 ай бұрын
But your concept that the price should be the right price ignores human psychology. And most people buying a TV, or a gaming system, or any other big ticket item. Aren't doing so because now they can finally afford it at 25% off instead of 10%. They are being strategic. If it's something they want, but not something they need, they wait to buy it at the best price.

23:30 - "I think that whatever the discount is for wherever you're going it should have been that price in the first place and if it wasn't the price that was the right price, then the free market will decide otherwise it will decide what item is priced right, what item will sell right." You say this idea multiple times in the stream (prices should reflect what the free market determines it should be). However, the free market does not instantly standardize prices across all locations and time. If a retail chain decides to have a temporary loss leader product, you are saying that the product should have always been that discounted price? And that all the other retail chains should also adjust their prices because of the free market? How does this make any sense?
