Your accent is really good! You have a good feel for the sound of Burmese so early in your Burmese learning journey. I really really struggled with this and still do, so I am delighted to see your video. Have you really only been learning for 30 days? How are you learning Burmese? I am planning to film a review of some Burmese materials maybe this weekend, but I am no expert. If you have any questions/difficulties or just want someone to talk about learning Burmese to please feel free to reach out :)
@Nicolethelinguaphile7 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! that is a huge compliment. I find that the vowels in Burmese sound like Spanish, so it helps me with the pronunciation, since I speak Spanish too. Yes, it has only been 30 days, technically. Last year, I tried with a language partner on Gospeaky and I got discouraged and stopped. I only knew a few phrases and she taught me how to tell a short children's story in Burmese. But, I could not find her when I decided to pick it back up. I have been using a few different resources here on KZbin and I recently found Kenneth Wong who has some great Burmese audio. I have also done Burmese by ear, but not a lot. I first started with Professor Bo the channel, Burmese lesson and kept digging. I have a playlist on my channel. I also have a Burmese/ English pocket dictionary that I just lost LOL. Now, I am focusing on learning to read, so I have not done an update video, but it is funny you found this, because I was going to do an update this week. Oh yes, I also know someone who has been learning Burmese for 6 years and she has been helping me recently.

@@Nicolethelinguaphile I can still understand it but speaking it sounds sooo choppy! And when I try to say something it comes out backwards. Lol. You inspire me to start practicing again. Thank you!!

Kyeh zu tin ba deh :) I live in the U.S. I am learning mostly with a dictionary and Asia pearl travels website. I also have a Burmese friend who helps me.
Burmese is a tonic language. So, when you pronounce, you have to be careful of your tone. For example, in thinyu (learn) - yu - must be pronounced with the pinyin 3rd tone. When pronounced with the 1st tone, it means stupid. thinyu(yu with 1st tone) in this case, means stupid. Worse, because thin (with the 3rd tone) also means 'you', and you end the short sentence with 'de', which is a declaration/proclamation word. So, you end up politely cursing somebody, with a touch of sarcasm. :D
@Nicolethelinguaphile6 жыл бұрын
Bubuu Manasye Oh no! I did know about the "stupid" thing, but not the other. Hopefully, my tones have improved since I did this video. I am still working on it. Thank you for the tip! 😊
