As-salaamu alaikum I applaud each of these young men their efforts and their intentions to address an issue that has been ignored and even associate it with terms of unbelief. When we speak for justice for the non-Arab or non- IndoPakistani citizens in Islam, and human beings outside of islam (Black Latino and Asian Americans) I am so happy this conversation has started I pray Allah SWT puts good in it

What a wonderful conversation and likely eye opening for many people who are completely blind to these disparities and issues.

Great conversation! This is a wonderful start to where we should be headed. In practical terms, an action plan or realistic doable actions would help a lot of masajid and the muslim community. Because like you mentioned in the video, it IS easier to just celebrate black history month once a year and be done... its a short term commitment. But, at the same time, what is the alternative? I think a lot of Muslim communities and masajid could use more insight into how we should be effectively being actively involved in and upholding social justice. Some suggestions I have for practical action plan are: 1) And maybe that will look like making sure that your board of members is diverse... meaning you have a person that represents ALL ethnicities. 2) Making sure everyone gets an equal voice and is HEARD in those masjid and community meetings. There is a tendency for some people to dominate these meetings. Those are just some things I can think of right now. But, we definitely need to INVOLVE people from the community by this I mean specifically ALL ethnicities and backgrounds.

This topic should be done once a month, I think a lot of people could benefit from constant education about this subject. Especially for youth leaders in high school or colleges. Thank you, this was a very helpful discussion!

I also have a question - what word in English can be used in place of the Arabic word ‘muslim’ in the English speaking audience while being able to carry the quranic meaning and why do we make initial cap in the word ‘muslim’ when used in English?

I am an African American divorced woman with adult children who were raised in a mostly Indo Paki masjid. Recentiy many African American new shahadas have come. These people are asking for help getting married and zI asked the masjid how we can handle this there was no plan. I have a Masters in counseling and offered my services to talk about marriage in Islam. I was told these people shoild go online to find a spouse. How can zi heip these new converts so they do not suffer as I have?
