The key to Liss refusing to "be her parents" is having a partner who is willing to listen, respond, and adjust. If Kev only ever criticized her concerns if would be difficult. But at least she could say she she tried and be able to walk away with peace if she chose to do so.

Melissa is so right. I have been a passive person for most of my life but recently I have been very vocal with my partner right away when things bother me. I have been known for holding things in but as I’m getting older and more mature I see how critical it is to communicate, effectively of course, right away when something bothers me.

I'm going through this process now. Like you both have said, it's so difficult to find your voice and be "unbothered" at people's reactions when you do speak your mind and stand up for yourself after being passive, quiet, and accepting of others treatment towards you when you've been that way for your ENTIRE life.

Im just speechless! I wish my husband would take just 1% of your tips! Been together now since 2007 almost 18 years this year. We have grown SO FAR APART it hurts my soul. He ALWAYS throws things in my face and says things like “you liked doing it when we just met” or “you liked it when we were strangers” and YES thats the truth. I DID like it, but seriously! I’ve GROWN older and have evolved more into a woman and a person. I dont like the SAME THINGS i liked 20 years ago. OR maybe it could be I CANT do the same things ive done 20 years ago! Im turning 50y/o this year, i know its still young BUT i dont feel like im in my late 20s/early 30s no mo! I’ve LOST myself in between the years. When she said “i dont even know what i like” that hit me really hard. When im asked “what do you like doing or whats your hobbies” i have no answer because i REALLY DONT KNOW! And that is really sad! Anyway, sorry for the long post. I just really appreciate this show because it’s very inspiring and very informative. Thank you so much.

Exactly I was going to say the same thing. I'm like Melissa my love language isn't gifts, so when someone gives me a gift I see it as a kind gesture. I can see why knowing mine and my partner's love language is very important. I know mine is physical touch and acts of service.

Love Melissa and Kev but… My feelings would’ve been hurt with her reaction towards a gift. For me, it’s the thought that counts. If a gift can’t come from the heart, it’s difficult to guess/mindread what someone likes or what their style is and then hold them accountable for being a bad person when they tried to get something nice. I think it would be better to give the person a list of things that you want. Honesty, to me falls more in the category of you hurt my feelings when you said… Or Saying things like I’m not a seafood person. Overall though, I really liked them a lot and I think they made excellent points.
@lwills86094 жыл бұрын
For 20 years she did the "thought that counts." What she is saying is that after 20 years, she should be able to express what she doesn't like. If anyone's ego is so fragile that they can not allow or understand a person to tell them what they like then something is wrong. He paid a lot of money for a gift that she did not like. She didn't like them. All these years, he gave her what he wanted her to have not what she liked. When she told him to look in her closet and pay attention to her, things changed. He said it himself that his gifts now have been the best. He now sees his wife for who she really is and he likes it. They both like it.
@heidistringfield73514 жыл бұрын

Kevin is on point his stories out of everybody seemed the most real on what married couples go through... I don't think his wife is happy with his success and where his career is going.... she trying to keep him right there. she ain't happy with that elevation. Its just a pair of shoes what's the big deal?... make no mistake your husband or wife is a representation of your ego... so if you feeling bling blingish, your mate suppose to represent that even when you are not. Kevin may not have the opportunity to buy some bling bling shoes but he most definitely might want his wife to represent that. Case in point, couple in the middle, he dressed all the way down but his wife his dolled up. she represents his financial come up and he may be representing her being down for what ever, putting in that work. all I'm saying is don't bite your ego AND THE I AINT DODO...BECAUSE IT'S NOT ABOUT MATCHING OUTFITS, its about being equally yoked mentally physically and emotionally. Like yall said it's about the small things.
@nzuzothwala9683 Жыл бұрын
I totally get her though, I'm not married but no matter how wealthy we get I will never like blingy or show off stuff unless I get an iPhone update, then I'll let you know that babe, I think I'm in my bling era... Otherwise as me, I forever want you to get me the most low key uniquest pair of shoes. If there's nude, shiny, n black imma probably go for the most low key, most practical for me pair 💯 no hard feelings

Why did she keep her mouth shut for 20 years?! No wonder he got upset. That's not fair to him
@milkan.85524 жыл бұрын
In my humble opinion, I think the moment she decided not to hold stuff within herself and allowed herself to evolve as she matures is the moment she decided to be true to herself. Think about this, if your boyfriend of a few months bought you something, may it be so small, you would genuinely be appreciative of the thought of it. If you married him and 20 years later he gives you something that’s does not suit you, regardless of how expensive, of course you’ll say thanks but if you have some sadness because you feel your now husband of 20 years hasn’t really known your preferences, you would be wise to communicate that with him so that he understands that the issue is not the gift, it’s whether he’s growing and evolving with you as you grow old together. The girl you were 20 years ago is not the same woman you are today. I hope that makes sense.

They're a work in progress just like everyone else. Kev has a big boisterous personality that takes up space and Melissa explained that she's used to shrinking herself to adapt. Its going to take a while to unlearn a 20 year habit but these traits portray themselves in body language too. Her body language will expand as she does
@aatiti20114 жыл бұрын
She is an introvert, really introvert. I think being in public with so many ppl to talk might explain the body language. It's completely different in their podcast
