You feel so betrayed for feeling bad for someone like that when you realize, I like this episode because it's not really about technology. It's unsettling because you really don't know what goes on inside other people's minds.
@Dexedus

Ha, except it is really about technology, albeit just modern technology. The whole plot falls apart without technology. The 'inside the mind' part of the episode is present in a lot of black mirror episodes.
@Quzga

@Dexedus I didn't say it's not about technology, it's just not as much of a focus point as most black mirror episodes and more psychological. Just find it refreshing seeing an episode where it's something that could happen today and not crazy scifi concepts.

@@Quzga I think the majority of the episodes are all 'more psychological'. This epsiode has just as much to do with technology. It's not future tech like other episodes. Idk if the point was that sadism is cool as long as your victim has commited some awful crimes. I think the protagonist should be tried for watching CP and supporting this monstrous industry but assaulting them (even indirectly, by blackmailing another guy into doing it) just tells me that the blackmailer just wants to hurt people and not feel bad about it.
@IceMetalPunk
@IceMetalPunk Күн бұрын
@@syabri2342 It's definitely a question of "does someone else doing terrible things make it okay to do terrible things to them? Or does that just make you a terrible person, too?" Most people will say on instinct, from the ick factor, "you do something bad, then it's fine to hurt you" -- it's how many people justify torture during wartime, and war itself -- but is that actually moral, or just a way we justify our own need for control and justice?

I think the true core of Black Mirror is about mercy more than technology. And it's just that technology is so cruel and merciless on its own, that when people treat it as something authoritative or natural then it allows for a cruel and merciless world. Episodes like this and White Bear really lay it bare by tricking you into considering the need for mercy for people who "don't deserve it", and the societal cost from removing that possibility. Like how the troll has complete control over these people specifically because they feel they have nowhere to turn and can't afford people finding out their secret, which isn't that different from being trapped in Playtest and surrounded by your worst nightmare every day.

The armed robbery could be argued it was carried out under duress since he was threatened to do it and the murder his lawyer would argue was in self defence. After googling around (which makes me feel like i'm on some list now) for laws related to simply "viewing" such images; since the police will access his laptop it seems like it depends whether or not he has the images saved or if he just viewed a site. If he saved one or more images that's considered ""making" the image, as it causes a copy to exist which did not exist before." - however "making" and "possession" carry a maximum of 10 years.

This episode is such a wild ride, 50 minutes of non-stop nail-biting tension and unbearable suspense, leaving you constantly feeling sorry for the protagonist, right up until that ending comes along and hits you like a truck, and forces you to reconsider everything that you'd seen beforehand. It's a brilliant episode, truly one of the show's best - a gripping premise that feels alarmingly grounded and believable, absolutely fantastic performances (particularly Alex Lawther, one of the best to ever appear on the show), and one of the most powerful gut-wrenching yet also darkly funny endings in the entire show set to a perfect use of Radiohead's "Exit Music (for a Film)". Probably the most bleak, cynical and nihilistic episode of the entire show, which is quite the achievement - and it makes for a perfect contrast to what the next episode (also fantastic) has in store.

Not about questionable elements, but the clearest thing. There could be a room with 3 people in it and 3 doors that they could leave through, guy 2 could say two is my lucky number so I'll take door 2, all three could then leave through different doors without a further word.... I think one of the point of the episode, that isn't often discussed, is how art can manipulate the viewer by taking a specific perspective. Kind of like Gone Girl does. Just like Dot and Bubble from the latest series of Doctor Who, this episode is brilliant at revealing enough information about Kenny and his situation to make you want him to succeed and come out alive, then the other half of the truth comes out and it makes you conflicted on how you feel about him and his journey in the episode

That discussion was one of the most lively ones I've seen on their channel. It was interesting how the room was literally divided in half, lol. All the people who were on the same side of the particular argument were physically seated next to each other. It was interesting how they handled having so many people wanting to talk at once. Raising your hand and taking turns.

Probably the SECOND bleakest episode in my opinion… also hindsight is 20/20. Like the beginning of Kenny being a little TOO friendly with the child in the beginning… yeah this episode is a gut punch..,

The guy on the right needs to stop talking the whole time. Really arrogant know all attitude. Made the reaction pretty unwatchable, almost like he was determined to not be impressed . So busy with his verbal diarrhoea he didn't even realise it was child porn that was the issue, embarrassingly mediocre reactor.

I get why Eric wouldn’t mind if a video like that got leaked of him, it’s easier to accept if you have a big package to be proud of 👀

Why dont you guys just finish Black Mirror ? After Episode 4 you stop again with reacting to it.. why do you do that ? Thats disgusting. Thats a Slap in the face of every subscriber. There are so many good episodes and you stop that for a shit show like severance where they need 3 years to make a second season.

Brother you aren't entitled to another persons reaction to a television show. You'll enjoy life better if you don't let things like that bother you.
