No, Netflix didn't admit it's awful. Charlie Brooker metaphorically (not literally) called Netflix awful in his TV show and Netflix was willing to air it because Black Mirror makes them a lot of money. As long as people are entertained enough to maintain their subscriptions, Netflix doesn't care if people criticize it. See the recent password sharing controversy - people criticized, people complained, and people signed up for new subscriptions to the tune of hundreds of thousands. Personally, what I do is activate my subscription for a month, watch all the "must see" stuff that has been updated with a new season, then unsubscribe for two or three months until there's enough new content to come back. It's not hard to do; I renew my subscription then immediately, as in less than a minute later, cancel it. It stays active for a month, more than long enough to watch everything I want to watch, and I don't have to remember later to cancel. Also, for anyone who loves Black Mirror and wants something similar, find Inside No. 9 streaming and watch it; it's similar enough while being its own thing. If you want one episode to sample it, 12 Days of Christine is the show's pinnacle, one of the best, most moving pieces of TV I've seen.

The other day I had a chat with a tech nerd and he was telling me how all the future technologies are aiming towards reaching the singularity. And the more we march towards it the higher the chances of us humans losing control over everything. For example when we sign up for an AI photo app, it clearly says in the terms and conditions that it will use and store the images provided to it in ways we can not even imagine, it presents this to us in a very fancy way that it will enhance our user experience and will make it more easy for us to achieve what we want but in reality we willingly provide permission to them, gradually giving these apps control over us. There was even a hint in the episode "Salma can blow off an Orangutan" about deep fake porn movies all over the internet over which the celebrities have no control.
@VandalAudi Жыл бұрын
This is the basis of Dune's Butlerian Jihad, people exploiting other people through thinking machines, robbing the destiny of humanity as a whole. The optimistic side of me hopes that this would turn out like Iain M. Banks The Culture series, humanity (or rather pan-humanity) living care free lives under the subtle control of godlike AI Minds, sort of a retirement resort for the non digital beings, with a bit of excitement (tbf, some might be civilization ending events) every now and then. Sure humans lose much control, but then again, think of it as relinquishing control to your successors or children because the world has left you behind.

I think you missed the overall point. The show begins to get cheesy and terribly written and corny on purpose mid episode as what we are actually watching is a "show on streamberry". This episode is a middle finger to netflix for the contrived shit they put out and also to those that are entertained by such poor quality. The episode can be viewed 3 different ways. Those that are entertained and find it funny and totally miss the point that they're being targeted (these are the people Brooker is putting his middle finger up to), then those that see the corny and terribly written and badly acted dross and think that black mirror has just gone down hill (that was me mid episode), and then finally those that see that brooker did it "awful" on purpose to show how bad netflix shows have become.

The scene where Joan dumped her shit in the church was not necessarily at all. If they were not intending to mock the church they could have made the scene in a wedding reception on an open field or a banquet all etc . Netflix through that scene was saying Technology is above God and people's faith and they have the authority to mock the house of God and people's faith . You'll never see Hinduism, Muslims,Buddhism mock their holy religious sanctuary in such a way even if it may be a production set.If anyone makes such a mistake their movie or series won't see a day of light or the producers and everyone involved will be rebuke . It's so shocking & shameful to know how the western people can stoop so low just to earn money and run their business by mocking Gods and it's Holy Church.

Someone who can make my mum proud and help this family reach greater heights... Maybe it's the reason why I am addicted to female led fiction books... There you read of women who make decisions that always lead to success or leading to saving everyone... I wish but I don't have that... The thing that got me was that all Source Joan had to do to solve her problem was just be conscientious, positive, and kind to others going forward. She could have changed the narrative herself to "Joan is Fulfilled". She had the choice all along. It should have been very easy, and the results would have been almost instant with the one-day production turnaround for the Streamberry show. There are many people like this--who lament at being labeled a negative or unpleasant person and then lean INTO it, instead of proving everyone wrong by simply being conscientious, positive, and kind to others.

This show didn't exactly break new ground. South Park did a show about how people who don't read the tearns and conditions for the new iPhone signed away their rights and became the Human Centipad. There are also plenty of inception like stories where there are nested layers of reality. What they did here that I think is interesting is a mix of profiting off of someone's image and likeness without pay or consent (like how colleges profited off of students name, image, and likeness without paying them), made us relate to the "good guy" and gave us a happy ending. Black Mirror is known for its edgy grimdark shows that typically tell the viewers life sucks and the future is a dystopian hellscape we can't fight against. But with the POV character and audience surrogate winning at the end, and getting a happy ending, it's actually a hopeful message that makes the show good.

They used a fake axe (it looks so light while handling, like it was made out of styrofoam). Why can't they use real axes in films?

are ppl really mad at this not being realistic? it's a dramatization n very clearly doesn't even take itself that seriously in the first place lmao

There's no such thing as "main character syndrome". It's called being self-centred, self-absorbed and selfish. We don't need to dress up being a fundamentally awful person as a condition.

Yes, there very much is a thing called main character syndrome. It goes beyond being simply self-centred, self-absorbed, and selfish, and involves treating other people as though they are merely supporting characters in your life story rather than each being the lead character in their own. Nothing dressed up about it.

You sound very narrow-minded, and self-absorbed, yourself, just with this statement alone, not gonna lie.

I think the word you are both looking for is narcissism 😂. Which tracks, because narcissists make for very entertaining protagonists. Just look at Succession. Not so fun to be around IRL.

The best episode of the season and what you would expect from Black Mirror.

Oh god - doesn't bode well for the other episodes that I've not seen yet...

Kinda weak to say that Netflix allowed this episode to air because they don’t think the consumer can change. Companies follow the money. It’s not corporations driving these decisions. It’s literally you.
