I see what you did at the end there! Haha. I completely agree with your rankings! Beyond The Sea is honestly one of the best Black Mirror episodes across seasons. The storyline, direction (IN LOVE with that long shot of the spaceship when Aaron Paul's character goes out to fix something the first time), and the character work were all chef's kiss. The cry that Aaron Paul did when his teammate's character took over his replica and sat by the tree was one of the best cries I've ever witnessed (I couldn't help but cry too). Overall, the idea of "losing your life but still being alive" was one of the most haunting ideas I've ever come across and I really love the way it was executed and made real in this episode. Regarding Mazey Day, it had sooo much potential to be good. I thought they were trying to shine a light on the dangers of older technologies that basically seem inseparable from our idea of reality now (cameras) and the abusive industry of the paparazzi. On top of that, how often do we get a story from a paparazzo's perspective and take step into their potential inner struggles? It was set up so well--it had all the building blocks of a great story, but it just ended up being confusing at best.

That is tied for my number 2 spot. Wrote out a video on that and all the other episodes but the moment passed.

I liked that in Mazey Day, most of the paparazzi are so disconnected from what's happening that they just accept all the insanity and just try to get their shots. Doesn't matter that she's chained down or literally shapeshifting, just matters that you're the one getting the first picture of it happening. You're right though, the way they framed it could've been smoother. Awesome video! I heard about you from Drunk Banthas and I'm happy to have come across you!

reminded me of the premise of "NOPE"

@@minismalls3096 Oh dang, I hadn't thought of that before, but that's a completely apt comparison! The commodification of spectacle, putting yourself and others in harm's way just to keep eyes on something and money coming in, yeah, you're totally on point

Demon 79 has to be my favorite, felt like a REAL black mirror episode. I couldn’t even finish Mazey day despite literally being in love with Zazie Beetz

For me Lock Henry was the only episode with an echo of seasons 1-3. The pacing is a bit off, but the ending really made it for me. Especially that corny trailer and a shot of main character crying and shaking while being interviewed. The commentary on the exploitation of real-life tragedies hit the bull's eye, especially about shows like Dahmer.

@@NineNerdYards Not to mention they already did the "young woman of color crosses a successful white woman trying to get away with a lethal hit and run" in S4 "Crocodile." Come to think of it, that one had a pivotal animal role at the end too.

Crocodile is actually very good too. But very hard to watch.

Stopped watching Black Mirror years ago but I’ll definitely watch the Aaron Paul episode. Seems very intriguing.

Beyond The Sea seemed predictable to me.....also why did they not just have the humans on earth and put the replicas in space?

I watched all videos analyzing the episodes of Atlanta Season 4. I appreciate your research and insight on matters. This season of Black Mirror was noticeably less technologically driven, and much milder in content. It was hard to ignore the fact that they cut away from scenes where they could have shown us gore and nudity and focused, when it's something that they would have no problem showing in previous seasons. I felt like I was watching a made-for-tv version of the show that had been edited to appeal to a larger and more diverse audience. Granted, the point was still made and showing it all isn't really necessary, but I did feel less engaged, it felt less raw, and I felt it easier to disconnect form the story. With all that said, I do think they managed to do a decent job being true to themselves and what we love about Black Mirror. Specifically, episodes like Beyond the Sea and Demon 79. Episodes like Loch Henry and Mazey Day feel like they could have been short films and if not told you would never guess it's a Black Mirror episode. Joan is Awful started off with a classic Black Mirror plot, but the ending didn't really deliver for me. Maybe I just didn't understand it. Overall, I think season is an example of the range Black Mirror can have as an anthology series. However, I don't think it's a good example of why I watch Black Mirror and why I love and recommend it. If I wanted to introduce someone to Black Mirror, I would likely fall back to an episode in Season 2 or 3. Even if Season 6 was edited to be more presentable.

What did you think about Loch Henry and Joan is Awful?

I really liked Loch Henry. Joan is awful was a solid comedy entry for Black Mirror but kinda missed the mark for me.
