Then why stay? I'm not trying to be rude, mean, or sarcastic, I just don't understand. If I don't like where I'm living, I move. Do you think you would like a different part of the country better? Different neighbors? Or do you think you would be happier in a different country? Do you know why you feel like you do?
@KBWeeds
@KBWeeds 3 жыл бұрын
@@bobbierobinson6269 Key word is “like”. Patriotism is “love & commitment to your COUNTRY”. That is much deeper than “oh I don’t like this city so I’ll move to another.” The USA is already purposely set up so that “move if you don’t like it here” works. We have 50 different state options plus territories that one can live and “love” vs overall country. And the real question to be asked is in 2021 why does the USA STILL not love, appreciate, and govern ALL citizens EQUALLY? Minorities built this country and you’d barely know all that we did from our own history books.

Most AA are in the military for economic reasons. Not because they love America. I’ve never met a truly patriotic AA in my life (the way white ppl are patriots), aside from a veteran or 2.

@notthe1_orthe2 3 жыл бұрын
@@hourexodus5204 both of my grandfathers were Navy men. They were also both university educated despite not being allowed to attend certain PWIs when they returned from service. They both loved America and yet were not under any delusion that it was this ‘perfect flawless country’ like so many whites are. White people are ‘patriots’ to an America that treats them how it should be treating ALL its citizens. How unremarkable is that form of patriotism? Real patriotism would be to stand (or kneel) beside their FELLOW Americans and work towards a more equitable America for all.
@notthe1_orthe2
@notthe1_orthe2 3 жыл бұрын
@@hourexodus5204 we have different definitions of patriotism then. Righteous criticism of one’s country doesn’t equate to unpatriotic. Just like blind support of a country and ignoring its imperfections isnt patriotism. Who is more patriotic: someone who sees their country’s flaws and works to improve them or someone who feigns that their country is perfect and is therefore complacent in letting it remain stagnant?
@hourexodus5204
@hourexodus5204 3 жыл бұрын
@@notthe1_orthe2 the definition of patriotism is not where we differ. In my experience I haven’t met many patriotic AA, regardless of which definition you use. Most AA who join the military do not do so out of patriotism, whether righteous or blind. I’m basing this off of my personal experiences so I am not pretending to have spoken to every single AA. The only AA I have met who are patriotic are those affiliated with the military. I could also make the case that white Americans are more patriotic because they support america and what it was designed to do, whereas black Americans try to change America into what they hope it will someday become. I do appreciate your perspective even if we are not in agreement.
@notthe1_orthe2
@notthe1_orthe2 3 жыл бұрын
@@hourexodus5204 the only reason why MOST people join the military is because its one of the few sure fire ways to increase one’s socioeconomic class. So pretending that motive is unique to AAs is disingenuous. I also gave you two examples within my own family of AfAms who love their country. My family is not an anomaly. Forgive me if I don’t take your POV seriously when you are discussing AfAms, a community of people who started the Civil Rights movement solely to improve the integrity of this country and at the same token; you don’t see how patriotic that very act is.

In regards to the naming of multiple cities in 'Living in America' -- James Brown had a huge r&b hit in the early 1960s with his rendition of 'Night Train', wherein he calls out multiple cities that the night train would be passing through. Similarly, 'Night Train" was somewhat of a cribbing of Louis Jordan's 'Salt Pork, West Virginia' from 1946. During live performances on the chitlin circuit, both songs would be a huge crowd-pleasing segment of their shows, as they would juice up the crowd in whatever town they were performing in.

See, I prefer comedy that involves a noticeable amount of thought into jokes. You can't try to convince me that there's an out of control problem with minority groups and their inability to take a good joke, when a natural part of that existence is to be on the receiving end of greater society's bullsh*t . You'd have to be resilient, as well as uniquely thick skinned, which could reach an inevitable limit. Even if they'd come to that point, ...it's still be inappropriate to suggest that these were cases of oversensitivity by people who've lost the American abilty to take a joke. Roy just did a 6 minute set that was specifically touching on a politically divisive topic, yet found a way to be funny for anyone listening. That was intentional. Just a professional being successful at his craft. We all can remember back in school, how there were a very select number of students, who seemed to have only one talent throughout their entire time in grade schools. These fools had a knack for getting large groups of students to laugh at one (or two) defenseless classmate. Admittedly, the guy (or girl) has a way of making , otherwise nice kids, giggle even when they're annoyed by the everyday antics of the class clown. Well, it shouldn't surprise you to know that most comedians will confess to having this gift of gab back in school. Some used it to ward off bullies. Point is, they should be far past that level of comedy if they are truly meant to be in that profession. Mny of us are funny motherf*ck*rs who can just look at everyday people and come up with something to crack on. That's not a gift & like many things in life, we lose the urge to maturity. Well, there seems to be a powerful push by comedians (and those of the far right) to normalize unfiltered offensiveness to the point of being celebrated. I'm not that easy, nor should anyone else be...... Just a thought.

Great point!! But if comedy is art, then comedians should be allowed to EXPRESS themselves in their own creative fashion, right? I mean what if the comedians tried to tell you how to do your job based on what made them get their kicks? Billions of dollars have been made in the comedic entertainment world with far, far, far right & left stuff(that I don't always agree with), but at least we can express freely. We don't get our heads chopped off for saying what is on our minds! Mind you I hate profanity so I just tune these guys off my media page, but someone likes it. Different strokes for different folks!! Side question, what do you think is the greatest issue facing Black America?
