Nicely played by Niemann until he inexplicably moved the Knight away from White's King, while also letting the Rook into the game, all just to grab a pawn. With a short time control, however, he can hardly be blamed.

Great analysis, GM King, thank you. I thought Black had sure ways to win watching the video but Pragg's defensive skills are really exceptional. Looking forward to your analysis of some of the US Championship games. It should be a great one. I think Wesley So has the edge here; lots of experience and very hard to beat. he will get the wins he needs and get the championship in my view.

Great game! I know there's tons of other stuff going on but if you're ever short of material (?) might I suggest Fedoseev against Niemann from the Sheikh Hamden Cup in Dubai, which, to me looks like a cracker (although fairly lengthy) - hard fought with sacs and a minor piece ending.

Hi Daniel. I love your move by move explanations. They're very clear and you don't talk (or make moves) so fast that I can't follow along. I've just started teaching a class of school children how to play chess and was wondering what software you use to display the moves, go back after a variation, highlight squares etc.

In the position where Niemann played …a5, you say that …h3 2.g3 is not dangerous, but isn’t 2…Ng4 just wonderful for Black? Octopus knight incoming…

This was interesting, Strange of Pragg to. Go in for such a theoretically weak nimrod, pity Niemann did not have time to find the finish. Thanks Daniel and keep up the good work.

A certain people have the biggest watchbase. I have been noticing for a long time in all of my notifications you only showing losses or bad play of them, I can never imagine you being one of the mind to do so , but just a practical youtube advice from a wellwisher

Hey Danny, full disclosure I am a Newcastle supporter as you may recall. Tough day for Brentford. They have impressed me in the past with their play, but too many sloppy mistakes in front of their goal today. I thought they did receive a bit of a harsh decision having that first goal disallowed. They’ll be back.
@PowerPlayChess2 жыл бұрын
Only caught the three-minute highlights and the Bees looked dreadful. On that kind of form I fear for them :(
@whatscharliedoingtoday25662 жыл бұрын
I thought the two OGs were as one would find in Test Your Chess -- unlucky. I don’t fear for Brentford. Too many other worse teams. Just mark it as an off day and move on.

The repeated stress on ‘classical’ sounds defensive in this campaign to rehabilitate Niemann. I suggest an analysis of Niemann’s loss to Caruana with white in the US Championships is much more revealing of Niemann’s strengths and weaknesses: aggressive; dynamic; intimidating; at times lacking in depth; fragile under pressure; confident to the point of arrogance; in other words still showing significant immaturity, of which his past cheating is another symptom. As Caruana himself has stated, he is an ‘interesting’ player worthy of attention.

I can't imagine being white and WANTING to play this variation of the Nimzo. It's like a dream for black. If you didn't tell me the names of the players, I would have guessed a 2200 elo player was white and only slightly higher for black. I don't think Pragg would have let Hans off the hook if the colors were reversed. However, the fact that Pragg intentionally gave Hans that position out of the opening questions his assessment skills. Even in rapid. This game is like watching a couple highly drafted prospects in another sport play in their rookie seasons. Talented, but not quite ready to play with the pros yet.

Hans Niemann is “extraordinary” alright. An extraordinary cheat. But apparently cheating is condoned in chess, so we should all just ignore that.
@lifeisthefun2 жыл бұрын
What's with Daniel's obsession with Niemann? Savior complex? This wasn't a particularly interesting game so the only reason I can think of to feature it is as a favor to Hans. Let the situation re the cheating allegations sort itself out before you pick a side. Meanwhile, there's lots of cool games being played which don't have Hans in them.
@corpseinthesky61112 жыл бұрын
Everyone is making videos about Hans, it brings the views. I think it’s fine for Daniel to participate in this trend, his videos aren’t annoyingly clickbaity like some others and he deserves a bigger audience
